Unplug the dehumidifier, hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds, reconnect it, and reset your humidity setting. Reseat the bucket and float, clean and dry the filter, then test the unit. If E9 returns—especially after the machine runs for several minutes—Hisense support has associated the code with a humidity-sensor fault on some models. E9 is not a universal Hisense code, so use your exact model number when seeking service.
What E9 means on a Hisense dehumidifier
Hisense does not publish one complete E-code chart that applies to every dehumidifier. Current manuals generally instruct owners to contact customer service when an error code appears, rather than defining E9 for all models. See the Hisense User Care Guide, the additional Hisense manual, and the older model manual.
For the DH7019KP1WG, a Hisense product expert identified a recurring E9 as a failing humidity sensor. That model-specific response does not prove that every Hisense model uses the same definition. A third-party page labels E9 as a pump fault on one DH5022K1W, but the cited manual does not establish that interpretation, so do not treat it as official guidance.
Find the model number on the rating label or paperwork before diagnosing the code. Examples include DH7019KP1WG, DH5023KP, DH5022K1W, DH5024K1W, DH7021K1W, DH2524K1W, DH3020K1W and DH10020KP1WG. Hisense provides model-specific resources on its DH5023KP support page.

Reset E9 safely
- Turn the dehumidifier off.
- Unplug it from the wall outlet.
- While it is unplugged, press and hold Power for 15–20 seconds.
- Reconnect the unit directly to a suitable grounded outlet.
- Enter the desired humidity or temperature setting and restart it.
This procedure comes from a Hisense support response for the DH7019KP1WG (Lowe’s product support response). It may clear a temporary startup or control fault; it is not a guaranteed repair.
Checks before contacting support
Confirm the electrical supply
- Use a grounded three-prong outlet.
- Check for a tripped breaker or blown fuse.
- Do not use an extension cord or adapter.
- Disconnect power before cleaning or inspecting the appliance.
Reseat the bucket and float
- Turn the unit off and unplug it.
- Remove the water bucket.
- Make sure the float is snapped in place and moves freely.
- Reinstall the bucket fully so its safety switch can engage.
A bucket or float problem is not established as the direct cause of E9, but these are standard Hisense checks when a dehumidifier will not operate.

- Restored Product: Hisense 35 Pint Portable Dehumidifier designed for areas up to 3,000 sq. ft
- Low Temperature Operation: Operates efficiently at low temperatures, effective in environments as cool as 38F
- Easy-Empty Bucket: Features an easy slide-out bucket for hassle-free emptying - (NOTE: The optional "Drainage Hose" is not included with this specific model dehumidifier.)
- Washable Filter: Equipped with a washable and removable filter for easy maintenance
- Convenient Portability: Built-in easy-carry handle allows for effortless transportation between rooms and spaces
Clean and dry the air filter
Remove the filter as described in your model manual, clean it, let it dry completely, and reinstall it. A blocked filter can reduce dehumidification, but cleaning it does not demonstrate that an E9 sensor fault has been repaired.
Inspect the pump system, if fitted
- Make sure the drain hose is connected and not kinked, crushed or blocked.
- Activate the pump if your model requires pressing a Pump button.
- Clean the pump water filter when the manual specifies it.
These steps apply only to pump-equipped models. Hisense documentation lists them for drainage problems, not as a universal explanation for E9.

Run a controlled test
Place the dehumidifier upright on a stable, level surface. Connect it directly to the outlet, choose a normal humidity target and observe whether E9 appears immediately or only after operation. Record whether the fan and compressor run, whether water is collected, whether a pump indicator flashes and whether the code clears after unplugging.
Use the timing of E9 to decide what happens next
| Pattern | What it suggests | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| E9 appears immediately after storage or startup | A temporary control fault is possible, but a sensor or wiring problem cannot be ruled out. | Complete the reset, reseat the bucket and float, clean the dry filter, then contact support if E9 returns. |
| E9 appears after 10–30 minutes | More consistent with a recurring operating or sensing fault; Hisense associated a roughly 30-minute recurrence with a failing humidity sensor on the DH7019KP1WG. | Stop repeating resets and request model-specific diagnosis. |
| E9 appears with a pump warning | Could involve drainage, but E9 itself is not proven to mean pump failure. | Check pump activation, hose routing and the pump filter, then use the exact manual or support channel. |
When E9 keeps coming back
Persistent E9 after the reset and basic checks is unlikely to be solved by ordinary maintenance. On some models it points to the humidity-sensing system, but sensor access, wiring and replacement parts vary. No universal consumer sensor-replacement procedure or part number is established.

Prepare this information for Hisense or the retailer:
- Exact model and serial number.
- Purchase date and receipt.
- Whether E9 appears at startup or after running.
- Whether the fan, compressor or pump operates.
- Photos or video of the display if requested.
Use the phone number and email printed in your manual or shown on your model’s official support page. A Lowe’s response for the DH7019KP1WG lists 1-888-935-8880 and [email protected], while other model pages list 1-877-465-3566; neither number should be assumed universal.

Should you replace the humidity sensor yourself?
Usually not without model-specific technical instructions. Opening the cabinet exposes mains-voltage components and moving parts, and work near the compressor or refrigerant circuit requires qualified service. Do not bypass the sensor, substitute a resistor, alter the control wiring, open the sealed refrigeration system or add refrigerant. Community discussions mention bypass concepts, but they are not manufacturer-approved repairs and can create electrical, fire and moisture-control risks (example discussion).
Repair or replace the dehumidifier?
Choose warranty or retailer service first
If the unit is new or within its applicable warranty, contact Hisense or the original retailer before buying parts or opening the cabinet. Lowe’s model-question pages may help owners who purchased there (example retailer page).
Get an estimate for an older unit
For an out-of-warranty appliance, obtain a diagnosis and estimate before ordering a sensor or control board. Compatibility is model-specific, and no current universal repair or part price is established.
Replace when the repair is disproportionate
Replacement can be more practical when the dehumidifier is older or the estimate includes a control board, sealed-system work or extensive troubleshooting. Compare capacity, pump availability, drainage design, noise and warranty rather than buying a generic sensor or board.

Stop using the unit immediately if
- The cord or plug is damaged.
- The appliance smells hot, overheats, trips the breaker or makes unusual electrical noises.
- You see signs of water reaching electrical parts.
- The unit repeatedly shuts down and restarts abnormally.
Warm exhaust air is normal during ordinary operation. Little water collection can also occur in low humidity, during automatic defrost, or with a dirty filter; those conditions alone do not prove an E9 failure. Automatic defrost may stop the compressor while the fan continues running.
