Affected devices lost Wemo-app control, remote access, Alexa and Google Assistant integrations, official technical support, and app or software updates. This is not a total shutdown of every Wemo product: four Thread models are explicitly unaffected, and some older devices may still work locally in Apple Home if they were configured there before the cutoff.
Use the model number—not the product nickname—to decide what remains possible. Belkin’s support notice is the authority: Wemo end-of-support details and model list.
What changed on January 31, 2026
Belkin ended the cloud infrastructure that affected Wemo products used for app sign-in, remote control and cloud integrations. The Wemo mobile app no longer functions or receives updates for those products and may be manually removed from a phone. Keeping an old installation does not restore a backend that has been shut down.
- Wemo app: no supported control or new updates for affected products.
- Remote access: control from outside the home ended.
- Alexa and Google Assistant: integrations that depended on Wemo’s cloud ended.
- Setup and reconfiguration: Belkin says new Wemo setup, including new HomeKit setup, is no longer available after the cutoff.
- Support and updates: Belkin stopped technical support and app/software updates for the affected Wi-Fi-based products.
The electrical hardware may still operate manually. “Stopped working” therefore means the smart-control layer is gone, not necessarily that a switch, plug or appliance has lost power.

Find your exact model
Look for the model/SKU on the device label, packaging or its original receipt. The following entries are identified in Belkin’s notice; names used by retailers are not a reliable substitute for the SKU.

Belkin’s complete notice also supplies each listed product’s last-sale date, original warranty period and HomeKit compatibility. Check that table before assuming a product qualifies for a refund or can be retained through Apple Home.
The four Wemo Thread products Belkin lists as unaffected
Belkin identifies these Thread-based products as continuing to function through HomeKit:
- Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way — WLS0503
- Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller — WSC010
- Wemo Smart Plug with Thread — WSP100
- Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera — WDC010
“Unaffected” does not mean every platform feature is guaranteed forever; it means these are the explicit exceptions in Belkin’s shutdown notice.

Existing HomeKit devices: protect the configuration you have
Several additional models may continue locally in Apple Home only when they were already configured before January 31, 2026:
- WLS0403
- WDS060
- WLS040
- F7C064
- F7C059
- F7C063
- WSP090
- WSP080
HomeKit compatibility is not the same as post-shutdown installability. If one of these devices is currently working in Apple Home:
- Leave it paired and avoid removing it from the Home app.
- Do not factory-reset it unless you have verified a current re-add path.
- Keep a compatible Home hub and the local network available if your automations require them.
- Test local control before changing routers, hubs or Wi-Fi credentials.
A reset can erase the only working local configuration. Belkin does not provide a new Wemo-app or HomeKit setup path after the cutoff.
What happens to Alexa, Google Home and other platforms?
Alexa and Google Assistant commands that reached Wemo through Belkin’s cloud no longer work. A device being powered or connected to Wi-Fi does not preserve those voice integrations. Apple Home control is the distinct exception for previously configured compatible devices.

Third-party bridges and local platforms may work with particular models, protocols and firmware, but Belkin’s notice does not guarantee them. Treat any self-hosted solution as a model-specific investigation, not a universal rescue.
Can you get a refund?
Belkin says a Wemo product that was still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 may qualify for a refund. Proof of purchase is required, and approval or amount is not automatic. Use Belkin’s Wemo end-of-support refund form.
- Record the exact model number.
- Find the receipt, order email or retailer purchase history.
- Compare the product’s warranty information with Belkin’s model table.
- Submit the form and retain the confirmation and any response.
Choose a practical next step
Keep it if Apple Home still controls it
This is the least disruptive option for an installed switch, outdoor device or scene controller. Accept that Belkin support and future updates have ended, and avoid unnecessary resets.
Replace it with Matter
Matter is the clearest replacement route for households using more than one ecosystem. TP-Link describes Matter devices as operating locally on a compatible network and working with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings: TP-Link Matter overview. A compatible Matter controller or hub is still required, and advanced features may differ by platform.

Those are manufacturer MSRPs, not verified current retail prices. Matter does not turn an old Wemo into a Matter device; replacement hardware or a verified bridge is required.
Investigate local automation
Technically experienced owners can test Home Assistant or another local platform for the exact Wemo model. Home Assistant’s official TP-Link documentation concerns supported Kasa and Tapo devices: TP-Link integration documentation. It does not establish guaranteed support for every discontinued Wemo device.
Use a conventional appliance
For heaters, coffee makers, humidifiers and other safety-sensitive loads, a reliable manual replacement may be preferable to an uncertain automation workaround. If replacing a plug or switch, match the device to the appliance’s voltage, current, motor/heater load and indoor/outdoor requirements.
Replacement checks for switches and high-load appliances
- For in-wall switches, verify neutral-wire needs, box depth, three-way wiring, dimmer/load compatibility and local code; use a qualified electrician when appropriate.
- For heaters, pumps and motors, check continuous and starting-load ratings rather than choosing by price alone.
- For outdoor equipment, confirm weather and outdoor certification.
- For energy monitoring, verify that the chosen platform exposes the readings you need.
- For Matter, confirm that your Apple TV, HomePod, Echo, Google hub, SmartThings hub or other controller supports the device category.
Dispose of unusable hardware responsibly
If a product has lost its smart function, is not useful manually, and is not eligible for continued HomeKit use or a refund, Belkin recommends authorized e-waste recycling. Do not place electronics or batteries in ordinary household trash where local rules prohibit it.

What this shutdown teaches smart-home buyers
Cloud-dependent hardware can lose app, remote and voice features when a manufacturer closes its servers. Local protocols and standards such as Matter can reduce dependence on one vendor, but they do not eliminate controller, network, firmware or manufacturer-support requirements. Before buying connected hardware, check its local-control behavior, update policy, electrical ratings and stated end-of-life process.

Can I still use an affected Wemo without internet?
You may still operate the hardware manually. Cloud-based app, remote, Alexa and Google Assistant control ended; only qualifying existing HomeKit configurations may continue locally.
Can I add an old Wemo device to Apple Home now?
Not through a new post-shutdown setup. Belkin says HomeKit setup or reconfiguration after January 31, 2026 is no longer available.
Will Alexa still control my Wemo plug?

Does Matter work without internet?

The Bottom Line
Check the SKU first. Keep a working pre-shutdown HomeKit device paired, submit a warranty refund request if eligible, and replace unsupported hardware with a properly rated Matter device or a simple manual alternative rather than relying on an old Wemo app.
