Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 October 2026

Who we are

Bettesworth Construction (bettesworthconstruction.com) is published by Yorker Media, a digital media business based in India. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Yorker Media.

We decide why and how personal data collected through this website is used. That makes us the controller under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Fiduciary under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Questions about this policy or your data: e-mail [email protected] with “Privacy” in the subject line.

The short version

  • We never sell your name or e-mail address.
  • Ads on this site are served by Google AdSense. They use cookies; where the law requires it, they ask for your consent first.
  • Our own visitor statistics use two first-party cookies and do not run at all if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.
  • Notifications are opt-in, and you can stop them at any time.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it.

What we collect and why

When you visit any page

Like every website, our servers receive your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, the page you asked for, the page that sent you here (the “referrer”) and the date and time. Our hosting providers and Cloudflare (our content delivery and security network) use this to deliver the page, keep the site available and block attacks and automated abuse.

Some forms on this site are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks signals from your browser to tell people from automated programs.

Our own visitor statistics

We measure how the site is used with our own analytics service, run on our own servers. It places two first-party cookies containing random identifiers:

  • _yv: tells a returning browser apart from a new one. It lasts up to 400 days.
  • _ys: groups the pages viewed in one visit. It lasts 30 minutes.

We record the pages viewed, the referrer, which outbound links and buttons are clicked, how far a page is scrolled and how long it stays open. With each visit we also keep a hashed (scrambled) form of your IP address, which we use to count visits and filter out bots. On a small share of visits we also measure page speed. This tells us which articles and tools help readers. The data is not shared with advertisers.

The script does not run at all, and sets no cookies, if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) or Do Not Track signal.

Google Analytics

We also use Google Analytics 4, a service of Google LLC, to understand how visitors use the site. It sets cookies (names starting with _ga) and sends Google information about your device and the pages you view. Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy. You can block it with Google’s opt-out add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Advertising

Bettesworth Construction is free to read because it shows ads. Our advertising partners use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure results and prevent ad fraud. Where you allow it, they also show ads based on your interests. That can include data about your visits to this and other websites, your IP address, your device and browser, and your approximate location.

Google

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s My Ad Center, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Browser notifications

This site can ask whether you want notifications about new articles. Nothing is sent unless you click “Allow” in your browser’s own prompt. If you do, your browser creates a push subscription: a unique address at your browser maker’s push service (for example Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft) plus encryption keys. We store that subscription with this site’s name, your browser family, device type and approximate country (from Cloudflare); we don’t store your IP address for subscriptions made since 10 October 2026 (older subscriptions also hold the IP address and browser details recorded when they were made), so we can send you notifications. We do not receive your name or e-mail address.

Your browser also remembers your choice in its local storage, so we don’t ask again. To stop notifications, block them for this site in your browser’s settings.

Comments

If you leave a comment, we store the name, e-mail address and website you enter, your comment, and your IP address and browser details. The IP address and browser details help us fight spam. Your name, website and comment are shown publicly. Your e-mail address is never shown.

When you contact us

If you e-mail us or use a contact form, we receive your name, e-mail address and whatever you write. We use it to reply and keep the conversation so we can follow up.

Software directory: listings, vendor accounts and purchases

If you list a product, claim a listing or buy a placement, you create a vendor account. We collect:

  • your name, work e-mail address, company and website;
  • the product information you send us;
  • your sign-in records (time, IP address and device), kept for security.

You can sign in with a passkey, a one-time code sent by e-mail, or a password. Passwords are stored only as salted scrypt hashes, never in plain text.

Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record. Dodo receives your card or wallet details. We never see full card numbers. We receive the order details: what you bought, the amount, the billing name, e-mail address and country, and the payment status. Dodo’s privacy policy: dodopayments.com/privacy-policy.

Affiliate links and “Visit” buttons

Some links on this site lead to other companies’ websites. When you click one, our statistics record the click: the page, which link it was and when. The other company may set its own cookies to know that you came from us. If you buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. What happens on another company’s site is governed by that company’s privacy policy.

Donations

If you support us through Ko-fi, Ko-fi and its payment providers process the payment under Ko-fi’s own privacy policy (more.ko-fi.com/privacy). We only see what Ko-fi shares with us: usually your name or handle, your message and the amount.

Other services our pages load

Fonts. Some pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers and Google receives your IP address and browser details.

Our legal grounds (GDPR)

If the GDPR applies to you, these are the grounds we rely on:

What Legal ground
Personalised ads and the ad partners’ cookies Your consent, where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland); otherwise our legitimate interest in funding the site with advertising
Visitor statistics Our legitimate interest in understanding which pages help readers
Browser notifications Your consent (your browser’s Allow button)
Vendor accounts and purchases Performing our contract with you; keeping tax and accounting records is a legal obligation
Security, preventing abuse and fraud Our legitimate interest in keeping the site and its readers safe
Replying to messages Our legitimate interest in answering you
Comments Our legitimate interest in running a public discussion

Who we share data with

  • Hosting and delivery: Hetzner Online and Leaseweb (our servers) and Cloudflare (content delivery and security).
  • Advertising: Google AdSense and the advertising partners they work with, as described above.
  • Analytics: Google (Google Analytics).
  • Payments: Dodo Payments, for directory purchases.
  • Other services our pages load: Google Fonts, as described above.
  • Notifications: your browser maker’s push service, which delivers the notifications we send.
  • Advisers and authorities: our accountants and lawyers when needed, and public authorities when the law requires us to share data.

We do not sell your name, e-mail address or account details. Under some US state laws, letting advertising partners collect data through cookies for interest-based ads counts as “selling” or “sharing” personal information. You can opt out of that as described under Your rights.

International transfers

We are based in India. Our websites run on servers in the United States, our visitor statistics are stored on servers in Germany (plus an older copy on our US server until it is moved), our backups are kept in Germany and with Cloudflare R2, which may store them outside the EU under Cloudflare’s terms, and several of our providers (such as Cloudflare, Google and Amazon Web Services) are based in the United States. So your data may be processed outside the country where you live. When data from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland goes to a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on our providers’ Standard Contractual Clauses or their certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep data

  • Statistics cookies: _yv up to 400 days, _ys 30 minutes.
  • Notification subscriptions (the subscription and the details described above): while the subscription is active. Ended subscriptions are currently kept as inactive records until we set a retention period, which we will state here.
  • Comments: while the comment is published.
  • Vendor accounts: while the account is open. Purchase and invoice records are kept for as long as Indian tax and accounting law requires.
  • Our web servers’ access logs, which include IP addresses: kept on our servers for at most 60 days, except a few older log files from August 2026, which we also keep. Copies of these logs are also kept in our backups, and we do not delete those copies.
  • Messages to us: only as long as we need them for the purposes above.

Your choices and rights

  • Ads and cookies: make or change your choice in the consent tool provided by our advertising partner. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser. If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised.
  • Google ads: turn off personalised Google ads at myadcenter.google.com.
  • Other ad companies: industry opt-out pages at optout.aboutads.info, optout.networkadvertising.org and, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Global Privacy Control: our own statistics do not run when your browser sends GPC. Our advertising partners’ consent tools treat GPC as an opt-out of sale or sharing where they support it.

Your rights. Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • restrict or object to how we use it;
  • send it to you or another service in a portable format;
  • withdraw a consent you gave (this doesn’t affect what we did before).
  • EEA and UK: you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
  • California and other US states with privacy laws: you have the right to know, delete and correct your data, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information and of targeted advertising. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
  • India: you can also nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to. If we don’t resolve a complaint, you can take it to the Data Protection Board of India.

To use any of these rights, e-mail [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. We reply within one month. If a request is complex we may need longer, and we will tell you why. You can also act through an authorised agent.

Children

This site is meant for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children: under 13 in the United States, under 16 in the EEA and the UK, or under 18 in India. If you believe a child has given us personal data, e-mail us and we will delete it.

Security

The whole site runs over encrypted HTTPS. Access to our servers and tools is limited to the people who need it and is protected with passkeys and other strong sign-in methods. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and fix problems quickly.

Changes to this policy

When we change how we handle data, we update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will say so clearly on this page.
