First check what “turning off” means: a cycle that ends while the display stays on points to different causes than a dryer that loses power mid-cycle. If the cycle ends after a few minutes and the clothes are still soaking wet, Samsung says dirty moisture-sensor bars are one possibility. If the display goes dark or the dryer stops during a cycle, check for a vent warning and power or error-code clues. The title alone cannot identify a specific fault.
Identify what happens when the dryer stops
Before changing settings or restarting the dryer, note what you observe:
- Does the display go dark, or does the cycle end while the controls remain on?
- Are the clothes soaking wet, slightly damp, or dry?
- Does an error code or blinking-light pattern appear?
- Does the dryer stop at about the same point each time, or only with a particular load or cycle?
These clues help distinguish an early cycle finish from a power interruption. They do not, by themselves, confirm a failed component.
If the cycle ends early and clothes are still wet
Clean the moisture-sensor bars
Samsung says that when a dryer ends after only a couple of minutes with soaking wet clothes, dirty moisture sensors could be the cause. Fabric-softener or dryer-sheet residue can coat the sensor bars and interfere with sensing. See Samsung US guidance for clothes not drying.

To clean the bars, switch the dryer off, unplug it, and let the drum cool. Gently wipe the sensor bars with a soft cloth dampened with warm water and mild soap, then dry them thoroughly with a clean cloth. Avoid abrasive tools and excessive water. Samsung provides these steps in its dryer cleaning and maintenance guidance.
Check the cycle and load
A timed cycle ends when its selected time runs out, whether or not the clothes are dry. Also check the dry-level setting and whether the load is unusually small or large. Samsung UK notes these as possible reasons for unsatisfactory drying; cycle controls and instructions vary, so use the manual for your exact model. See Samsung UK troubleshooting guidance.

If the dryer stops during a cycle
Check the vent and follow the model-specific test
Samsung says some dryers may shut off as a safety measure when they detect a vent blockage. Its US support guidance recommends a Vent Blockage test for a mid-cycle shutdown, followed by vent cleaning if the test detects a blockage. The test is not available on every model, and its button sequence and results vary. Follow the instructions for your exact dryer; do not assume a procedure for another model applies. Samsung’s instructions may require a cool, empty drum for the test.
Clean the lint filter after every load. Lint buildup in the exhaust vent can restrict airflow and pose a fire hazard. Samsung says vent-cleaning tools can be used but recommends professional cleaning for thorough and safe results. A brush does not prove that the full duct is clear. Use error codes to choose the next check
Write down any code before resetting or unplugging the dryer. Samsung’s US code guide associates temperature codes with temperature or sensor issues and notes that a clogged lint screen or vent is a common cause. Heating codes can indicate overheating; a voltage issue may require an electrician. Door-related and communication errors have different checks. Follow the instructions for the displayed code and your model, because meanings and reset steps vary. If the code returns after those steps, consult the manual or request Samsung service. If the display goes dark or the breaker trips
Electrical checks are limited to safe visual inspection. Turn off the breaker and unplug the dryer before inspecting the plug, cord, and outlet. Do not open the appliance or handle live wiring. Stop and contact an electrician if you see burn marks or damage, or if an electric-dryer cord connection is loose or visibly incorrect.

Samsung notes that an electric dryer circuit can be half-tripped; its instructions say to switch both parts off, wait 30 seconds, and switch them back on. If the breaker trips repeatedly, contact a licensed electrician rather than continuing to reset it. See Samsung’s power troubleshooting guidance.

- Call an electrician for a damaged cord or outlet, burn marks, loose or incorrect electric-dryer power connections, or a breaker that keeps tripping.
- Request appliance service if the dryer still will not stay on, an error returns after the model-specific checks, or the problem continues despite a passing vent test.
Do not replace a thermal fuse, thermostat, control board, motor, or other part based only on the symptom “turns off after a few minutes.” A technician needs to diagnose the specific fault. Samsung directs customers with unresolved power or error conditions to its support and service options.
