New Atlas reported 308 square feet (28 square meters) of interior space in 2024. The result puts a main living area beneath a full-height sleeping loft, with nearly every interior feature serving more than one purpose.
What makes the Mini Dome a geodesic house?
A pentakis dodecahedron is a many-faced geometric form. New Atlas describes the Mini Dome as a 60-sided structure assembled from triangles, and called it the world’s first tiny house of this type. That superlative is a description in the reporting and listing, not an independently adjudicated distinction.
The geometry is carried by a hub-and-strut system. Dodeca Domes says welded steel hubs establish the angles and connection points, allowing the wooden struts, studs, and panels to use simpler shapes. Rather than asking every wood component to create a complicated joint, the hubs define where the parts meet.
The house sits on a raised pier-and-beam foundation, according to New Atlas. Dodeca Domes’ construction overview describes a sequence that starts with prefabricated components and concrete piers, then moves through utilities, framing and sheathing, and enclosure work including underlayment, windows, crawlspace covering, the front door, and roofing.

How is 308 square feet arranged?
New Atlas reported 308 square feet (28 square meters) for the Mini Dome in 2024. The main living space is below a mezzanine sleeping loft; the Airbnb listing describes the loft as full height, with a skylight and queen bed. A spiral stair links the levels.
The interior uses a central unit to bring together kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom functions. The feature describes a sofa bed and small dining table in the living area, alongside a refrigerator/freezer, kitchenette sink, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and cabinetry. The compact plan makes circulation and furniture choices especially important: the stair, sleeping area, and shared central functions all occupy a limited footprint.
Bathroom and ventilation details
The Airbnb listing says the bathroom has a shower and toilet but no sink; the kitchenette sink is nearby. It also says the triangular windows are frosted and do not open. The listing describes automatic filtered ventilation, as well as heating and air conditioning. These are listing details, not a quantified ventilation or energy-performance assessment.
How the construction package and build are described
Dodeca Domes currently lists “Hubs, plans, and detailed construction drawings” for $15,000 USD. This is a project package, not a finished house. The builder’s page estimates a total project cost of approximately $100,000 and approximately 3,130 hours to complete, and says step-by-step build instructions are provided. Those figures are the builder’s estimates, not guaranteed or independently verified totals; actual scope, cost, and labor can vary with location, permitting, contractors, and project choices.

The builder’s overview divides the work into five broad stages:
- Prefabricate components.
- Pour concrete piers.
- Run utilities.
- Frame and sheath the structure.
- Seal and finish the enclosure with underlayment, windows, crawlspace covering, front door, and roofing.
A prospective builder should treat the package price as only one part of project planning. The published figures do not establish what every site, utility connection, permit, interior finish, or contractor arrangement will cost.

What is established about insulation and efficiency?
New Atlas reports excellent insulation, and Dodeca Domes describes the Mini Dome as super-insulated and hyper-efficient. Neither source provides an insulation rating, measured energy use, or a quantified performance result in the material cited here. Those descriptions should therefore be understood as promotional or qualitative claims, not proof of a specific operating cost or energy outcome.

It currently mentions a hot tub, kitchenette, loft, sofa bed, heating and air conditioning, and filtered mechanical ventilation.
