A mobile factory developed for disaster recovery can crush rubble on-site and press it into interlocking blocks or pavers for rebuilding. Mobile Crisis Construction (MCC) calls its blocks “Crisis Bricks.” The “Lego-style” comparison describes how the blocks fit together; these are industrial construction products, not toy bricks. MCC’s published production figures differ by page, and the available sources do not independently validate broad performance claims.
How a rubble-to-block mobile factory works
MCC describes its factories as production lines housed in modified shipping containers. The equipment crushes rubble and presses the processed material into blocks or pavers. MCC says its system can work with different local materials, including clay, rubble and ground glass, with materials engineers developing a suitable mix for the area.
The aim is to bring production nearer to a disaster-affected community rather than rely entirely on transporting conventional building materials in. MCC also says it trains local teams to operate the factory and build walls. Those are descriptions of the organization’s model, not independently verified project outcomes.
What “Lego-style” and “mortarless” mean
MCC says its Crisis Bricks have interlocking geometry so they can be laid without mortar between blocks. The comparison to Lego is about the way shapes engage; it does not mean the blocks are toy-sized or made by the Lego company. MCC says it can adapt block designs to local construction practices and shape or reinforce them for particular uses.

Mortarless assembly does not by itself establish that a wall is structurally safe. MCC describes using vertical rebar grouted through blocks and says structural engineers sign off on bricks and structures according to location and risk zone. These are MCC’s own descriptions; the sources available do not include independent test reports establishing that its blocks outperform other systems or are suitable for every building type.
What published output figures actually say
MCC’s pages report different production measures, and they should not be treated as a single reconciled capacity. The figures below come from pages that were undated in the search results and accessed in 2026:

| Source statement | Reported output | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| MCC “Our Story” page | 8,000 bricks | Per 10-hour shift |
| MCC technology and solutions pages | 30–40 tonnes | Per shift; the shift length is not stated on those pages |
| MCC homepage search result | 30–40 tonnes | Per eight-hour shift |
Bricks per shift and tonnes per shift are not directly comparable without information about block size, material mix and operating conditions. The pages also differ on shift duration for the tonnage figure, so these numbers do not support a single dependable output rate.
MCC says a week’s production can provide enough material for a school, clinic or multiple homes. That is an organization claim; the sources cited here do not document an independently verified project outcome demonstrating that capacity.

Block details reported for a separate product
New Atlas reported on July 30, 2024, that LayGo interlocking blocks have holes for rebar and come in sizes of 100 × 100 mm, 200 × 100 mm, 300 × 100 mm and 240 × 120 mm. The report says blocks need seven days of curing before construction use and reach full strength after 28 days. These are secondary-reported details for LayGo, not a universal specification for rubble blocks and not an independent engineering specification for MCC’s Crisis Bricks.
Other rubble-block efforts are not the same system
CSIR has described a separate South African housing-block project using recycled content, including crushed waste glass and construction-and-demolition waste. CSIR says those blocks interlock without cement between layers and contain 70% recycled waste content. That percentage belongs to CSIR’s block, not MCC’s product.

There is also historical precedent for mobile rubble-brick production: a Chalmers repository record describes Q-Brixx, a mobile rubble-brick factory developed after Haiti’s 2010 earthquake to support community rebuilding. The record does not establish that Q-Brixx and MCC are the same machine, organization or project.

MCC describes its work as disaster recovery and its current focus as Ukraine. Its public pages have also given differing deployment-related details: one says factories typically take 12 weeks to reach natural-disaster zones, while pages have listed different Ukraine shipping costs. Because delivery status, timing and costs are volatile and inconsistently reported, those figures do not establish a current price or that a factory has arrived at a particular site.

For an organization considering this approach, the key questions are specific to the site and intended structure:
- What local material streams can the factory accept, and what crushing or other preprocessing do they require?
- Who develops and validates the local material recipe?
- Which block sizes and shapes are available, and what curing period applies to the proposed mix?
- What reinforcement, grouting and site-specific engineering approval are required for the intended building and risk zone?
- What output is achievable per shift, with the unit, shift duration, material mix and operating assumptions stated clearly?
- What container, transport and setup requirements apply, and what training will local operators receive?
MCC invites partnerships with NGOs and corporate organizations. That invitation does not, on its own, establish a consumer product, a retail listing or an affiliate arrangement.
