The best adhesive for acrylic shower walls is the one approved for your exact panel and your actual wall substrate. Start with the shower-system installation guide, then confirm both materials against the adhesive maker’s current instructions. For example, Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround is listed for acrylic panels on certain surfaces but excludes cement board and waterproof backer; LIQUID NAILS LN-715 lists cement backerboard for most plastic and fiberglass surrounds. Those products are not interchangeable across every wall.
How to choose an adhesive for acrylic shower walls
- Check the panel manufacturer’s instructions. Use the adhesive and substrates approved for the exact brand and model. DreamLine’s QWALL-2 guide, for example, permits adhesive designed for acrylic panels or clear silicone and names LIQUID NAILS LN-915 or LN-715. That is guidance for QWALL-2, not every acrylic wall kit. Read the DreamLine QWALL-2 installation guide.
- Identify the wall substrate precisely. Determine whether the panel will bond to drywall, wood, tile, cement board, waterproof backer or a coated membrane. Check the adhesive’s technical sheet for that exact surface, including whether it must be porous.
- Check the application and cure requirements. Follow the product’s directions for bead application, working time, pressure or bracing, and cure. Do not put the shower back into use until the panel and adhesive instructions allow it.
- Follow the panel system’s sealing details. Adhesive bonds panels; specified sealant at seams, corners and edges handles a separate part of water management. Use the system’s instructions rather than assuming one product or detail suits every enclosure.

These manufacturer documents are not a controlled side-by-side performance test. They do not establish a universally strongest adhesive or a general service-life ranking.
Which adhesive works on cement board or waterproof backer?
Do not use Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround on cement board, waterproof tile backer or waterproof wall coatings: Henkel’s technical sheet excludes those surfaces. LIQUID NAILS LN-715 lists cement backerboard among its recommended substrates for most plastic and fiberglass surrounds, but that does not override the acrylic panel manufacturer’s instructions. For waterproof backer in particular, verify an approved adhesive for both the panel and that exact substrate before bonding; the cited product guidance does not establish a universal choice for every waterproof backer.
Prepare the wall and install the panels
Prepare a sound, clean surface
DreamLine directs installers to remove loose tile or paint, clean off soap film and dirt, dry the wall, and leave a smooth surface free of dust and contaminants. Carry out any additional sanding or preparation specified by the panel and adhesive makers.

Apply and position the panels
Use the adhesive maker’s specified bead pattern, working time and bracing instructions. DreamLine’s QWALL-2 guide says to work one panel at a time and apply pressure from top to bottom. Follow your own kit’s instructions if they differ.
Seal joints and wait for the specified cure
Complete seams, inside corners and perimeter edges with the sealant and method specified for the panel system. Lico, for example, separately calls for seam and edge sealant for its panels in wet environments; that requirement should not be transferred automatically to another brand. Lico wall-solutions FAQ.

Keep the shower out of service for the cure period specified by the applicable products. Henkel’s 2021 technical data sheet gives Loctite a cure time of 24–48 hours under its stated conditions, but says full strength on low-porosity surfaces may take seven days or longer. Those figures are product-specific, not a general shower-wall cure schedule.

- Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround: Henkel’s technical data sheet says repositionable for 10 minutes, while its product page says up to 15 minutes. Use the current label and sheet for the cartridge purchased. The 24–48-hour cure and possible seven-days-or-longer full-strength period on low-porosity surfaces come from the technical sheet, revision 2021-04-15.
- LIQUID NAILS LN-715: Its product data says to press panels into place within 15 minutes and allow 24 hours to cure. It estimates about 32 linear feet per tube and about three tubes for a typical surround, including caulking; actual project needs can differ.
- Sika Showerbond: Sika New Zealand states panels can be relocated for up to 30 minutes and gives an approximate cure rate of 24 hours at 20°C. The page describes 320 ml cartridges; regional guidance may not apply elsewhere.
Do not compare these working-time and cure figures as if they came from the same test conditions. Use the instructions for the exact product, panel and installation.
