Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your DEWALT cordless tool battery won’t charge, start by reseating it, checking the outlet, and allowing a hot or cold pack to reach a suitable temperature. Then read the indicator using the label or manual for your exact charger model. A light pattern by itself cannot reliably tell you whether the battery or charger has failed.
Why won’t my DEWALT battery charge?
Common causes include an incompletely seated pack, a switched-off or dead receptacle, battery temperature, or a problem with the pack or charger. DEWALT’s guidance for the DCB118 says the pack should be seated and clicked into place; its battery and charger manual also lists outlet and temperature checks. Start with these low-risk checks before treating a blinking light as a fault.
What to check first
-
Reseat the battery and inspect for visible damage
Remove the pack, then reinstall it so it is fully seated and clicks into place. Look over the exterior of the battery and charger for obvious damage or debris. Do not insert conductive objects into charger cavities or probe the charging terminals: DEWALT warns that the terminals can present a shock hazard and says to keep conductive foreign material away from charger cavities. -
Verify the outlet
Make sure the charger is plugged into a suitable receptacle. Test the receptacle with a lamp or another appliance, and check whether a wall switch controls it. These basic power checks are included in DEWALT’s Batteries and Chargers Instruction Manual.

Let a hot or cold pack adjust naturally
A battery that has just been used hard may be too hot, while one left in the cold may be too cold to charge. In either case, the charger may enter Hot/Cold Pack Delay: it suspends charging and resumes automatically when the pack reaches a suitable temperature. Do not try to bypass the delay.
The cited DEWALT manual gives 65°F–75°F (18°C–24°C) as the preferred ambient charging range and says not to charge below 40°F (4.5°C) or above 104°F (40°C). Those figures come from that manual; follow the instructions for your own battery and charger.

What does the flashing light on my DEWALT charger mean?
It depends on the charger model. A blinking light can indicate normal charging on the DCB118, according to DEWALT’s DCB118 support guidance. Other chargers may use different patterns, so check the label beside the lights and the manual for the exact model. Older chargers may differ, and a pattern from one model should not be applied to another.
How to narrow down whether the pack or charger is the problem
If the seating, outlet, and temperature checks do not resolve the issue, try a second battery pack that you know is compatible with that charger, if one is available.

This cross-check can help identify the likely source; it is not a conclusive diagnosis. If the problem persists, DEWALT’s manual recommends contacting a local service center for evaluation.
