Stop mowing, isolate the mower as its manual directs, and recharge the battery with its approved charger. Don’t keep mowing after a low-charge warning or reach near the blade to clear grass. Once the mower is safe, you can wait for a recharge, fit a verified compatible spare battery, or finish later with another mower.
What to do immediately
- Release the controls and stop the mower. Remove the safety key, safety plug, or battery only as the model’s manual directs. Einhell’s manual, for example, says to remove the safety plug when work is interrupted and before maintenance. Read the Einhell manual.
- Move the mower to a stable, dry place away from the cut path. Keep hands and tools clear of the blade. Do not try to clear packed grass until the mower is isolated according to its manual.
- Check the battery indicator. Yard Force advises: “No. Recharge the battery as soon as the red LED begins flashing.” See Yard Force’s battery guidance.
- Before charging, check the pack and connections. Confirm the battery is seated and charger connections are clean and secure. If the battery is hot, let it cool before charging; Yard Force includes reseating, connection checks, and cooling an overheated battery in its troubleshooting advice.
- Use only a charger specified or approved for that battery platform. Husqvarna warns against boost chargers and start boosters, while Briggs & Stratton says to follow the battery and charger manufacturers’ instructions. Husqvarna guidance; Briggs & Stratton guidance.
How to finish mowing
Choose based on whether the battery appears to be functioning normally and how soon you need to finish:

Check a spare battery carefully
Before buying or installing a spare, confirm the mower’s model-specific requirements: voltage, connector, battery chemistry, physical fit, and the manufacturer-approved battery family. Do not assume batteries from the same brand—or packs that appear to fit—are interchangeable. Check the mower manual or ask the manufacturer or an authorized dealer.
If the battery will not charge
- Reseat the battery and check that the charger connections are clean and secure.
- If the pack is hot, leave it to cool, then retry charging once with the approved charger.
- If charging still fails, stop troubleshooting and contact the manufacturer’s customer service or an authorized dealer. Yard Force and Husqvarna direct owners to service when normal charging steps do not resolve the issue.
Do not bypass the battery-management system, use a generic charger with unknown voltage, or open a lithium battery pack. A persistent charging fault—or runtime that suddenly collapses—is a reason to stop using the pack and seek service, not to try a different charger.

How to avoid running out mid-mow
- Start with a fully charged battery and check its indicator before leaving the charger.
- Recharge promptly when performance drops. Einhell advises against allowing its battery pack to become fully discharged; follow your own mower and battery manual for model-specific instructions.
- Divide larger lawns into manageable sections, and consider keeping a compatible spare charged if one pack is not enough for your job.
- Keep the battery and contacts dry and free of grass debris, and observe the manufacturer’s temperature limits.
- If runtime suddenly drops or the charger reports a fault, stop using the pack and contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer.
Runtime and charging time vary by mower, battery capacity, grass, terrain, and conditions. There is no universal runtime or lawn-area figure that applies to all battery mowers.
