The ACE ED6 800900 series 6X EX900 is a solenoid-operated hydraulic directional spool valve: it starts, stops and redirects oil flow. Its guide specifies CETOP 3 mounting, 32 l/min nominal flow and up to 250 bar at ports A, B and P—but limits port T to 100 bar. The valve’s hazardous-area marking, temperature class and electrical arrangement depend on the exact version, so “ED6” alone is not a complete selection specification.
What the ACE ED6 is and how it works
The ED6 is a directional control valve for hydraulic circuits. Inside its housing, one or two oil-immersed solenoids move a control spool through a plunger. The spool’s position determines which service ports connect, thereby directing oil through the circuit.
When a solenoid is energized, it shifts the spool. When it is de-energized, return springs move the spool back, except on the special O/OF types described in the guide. A hand-operated emergency button can move the spool without electrical energization. The manufacturer describes the function as controlling “start, stop and direction of an oil flow.”
Published ratings and operating limits
The EX900 guide and ACE’s catalog identify the valve as a CETOP 3 unit with 32 l/min nominal flow and 250 bar maximum service pressure. The pressure limit is not the same at every port: the guide specifies 250 bar maximum operating pressure at A, B and P, but 100 bar at T.

These ratings come from ACE’s EX900 product guide; the catalog repeats 32 l/min and 250 bar for the 800900-ED6. Check the circuit’s actual flow and pressure at each port rather than treating 250 bar as a universal port limit. The guide also provides pressure-drop curves and describes a cartridge throttle for conditions where crossover flow exceeds the valve’s operating limits. Read the ACE ED6 EX900 technical guide (PDF).
Hazardous-area protection and electrical details
The guide describes surface-use protection variants marked Ex dmb or Ex emb, Group II 2 GD IIC, and mining variants marked Ex d or Ex de, I M2. It specifies IP66 and lists certificate references INERIS 11ATEX0018X, INERIS 03 ATEXQ718 and IECEx INE 11.0011X. These references are those appearing in the guide; they do not independently establish that a certificate is current, covers a particular configuration, or makes an installation suitable for a particular hazardous area.

The guide’s electrical specification lists 24 V DC, continuous voltage, IP66 and 100% duty cycle. It associates temperature class T6 with 40 °C ambient and T5 with 50 °C and 60 °C ambient, and gives a minimum temperature of −25 °C. ACE’s broader catalog footnote discusses 24–230 V AC/DC across product documentation, which should not be substituted for the EX900 guide’s 24 V DC specification when choosing this version.
Before purchase or installation, obtain the current certificate and verify the complete valve marking and nameplate with ACE and the responsible hazardous-area authority. Confirm the protection version, gas or dust group, temperature class, ambient range, voltage, cable entry and certificate scope for the exact configuration and jurisdiction. ACE’s hazardous-area product catalog lists the 800900-ED6 and links to documentation and certificate downloads; the listing alone does not establish stock or present certificate validity.

What to specify before selecting an ED6
Use the full model and electrical order code, not just “ED6.” The guide covers 37 hydraulic symbols and multiple mechanical and electrical arrangements. Match the following details to the circuit drawing and installation:
- Hydraulic function: choose the required symbol and confirm the spool’s connections in each position. Select the 3- or 4-service-port housing option to suit the circuit.
- Spool return or retention: specify the required standard spring return or special O/OF arrangement. Distinguish no-spring and locking variants in the order code.
- Solenoids and manual operation: determine whether the valve needs one or two solenoids, which side (A or B) is energized, and whether a manual control or emergency pushbutton is required.
- Hydraulic duty: check flow, pressure at each port, the T-port restriction, fluid type, fluid temperature, viscosity and pressure-drop curves. Confirm whether the described cartridge throttle is required for crossover-flow conditions.
- Electrical and hazardous-area configuration: match voltage, Ex protection version, temperature class, terminal-box arrangement, cable entry, connection orientation and manual-control options to the installation and certificate scope.
- Mounting and supplied parts: confirm CETOP 3 compatibility and the seals and fasteners needed. The guide lists four rectangular seals measuring 9.81 × 1.5 × 1.78 and says four M5 × 50 DIN 912-10.9 fixing screws must be ordered separately.
Using the PDF and checking document currency
The manufacturer’s English document is titled “Explosion Proof Directional Control Valve Type ED6 Serie 6X — ATEX and IECEx (EX900).” It contains the hydraulic symbols, port and spool options, electrical arrangements, connection and cable-gland interfaces, and ordering information needed to identify a configuration. The PDF carries the internal note “10-820/12-14”; a dependable publication or revision date, and confirmation that it is the latest revision, are not established. Compare the document with the current product information and request the applicable certificate and configuration confirmation from ACE before procurement or use.
