It may suit targeted or occasional heating in a well-insulated space, as Dyson UK qualifies, but buyers should weigh its remote-dependent controls, regional specification differences and local warranty terms before choosing it.
What the Dyson AM09 does
Dyson describes the AM09 Hot+Cool Jet Focus as a fan heater that can also provide fan airflow. Its Jet Focus mode directs the airflow, while diffused mode is intended to spread it over a wider area. These are manufacturer descriptions of the modes, not independent findings about how evenly or quickly the AM09 heats a room. Dyson also markets its bladeless design as easy to clean; that is likewise a product claim, not a comparative cleaning test.
For a home project or finished room, it is best considered a portable, supplementary comfort appliance rather than a replacement for properly designed, code-compliant heating. Dyson UK says the heater is suitable for well-insulated spaces or occasional use, a useful limitation when deciding whether it fits a particular room.

These specifications do not establish room coverage, heat-up time, operating noise, energy consumption or long-term durability. No independent AM09 performance measurement or hands-on test is established here.
Controls and everyday use
Dyson’s US operating manual says heating operates only when the selected target temperature is higher than the room temperature. Setting a target that is already met therefore will not call for heating, according to the manual.

The same US manual says several controls cannot be operated without the remote: airflow adjustment, diffused and personal heating modes, oscillation and the sleep timer. That makes the remote more than a convenience for owners who expect to change those settings. The New Zealand specifications page lists a remote in the box; confirm included accessories for the regional version you buy.
Safety, care and maintenance
Dyson’s US AM09 manual describes automatic cut-out switches that operate if the machine tips over or overheats. These are safeguards, not a guarantee that the appliance is risk-free. Follow the safety instructions in the manual for your market and use the heater as directed.

- Dyson’s manual instruction is: “In order to avoid overheating, do not cover the heater.”
- The US manual says to disconnect the appliance before inspecting problems.
- Do not attempt maintenance or repair beyond what the manual describes or Dyson advises, and do not lubricate the machine.
Installation conditions, clearances and electrical requirements can vary by market and property. Consult the appliance manual and applicable local guidance rather than assuming a portable heater is suitable for every room or outlet.
Warranty, availability and buying considerations
There is no single current price or universal availability claim supported across markets. Dyson’s product and support pages are regional, and stock, colors, service parts and terms can change. Check your local listing before buying rather than treating pricing shown in another country as applicable to you.

The US AM09 manual describes a two-year limited warranty for normal domestic use in the United States. Dyson New Zealand’s product listing also displays two years. Those references do not establish identical coverage everywhere; verify the warranty and service arrangements attached to the product sold in your country.
- Consider whether the room is well insulated and whether you need occasional or directed supplementary heat.
- Check that the selected regional model and its documentation match your market.
- Decide whether remote-dependent features work for your household.
- Compare dimensions, footprint, warranty and service support with alternatives using information for the same market.
- If air purification is a requirement, verify that the specific product offers it; the AM09 descriptions cited here establish fan and heater functions, not air purification.
How this review compares with newer Dyson coverage
TechRadar’s November 5, 2025 HF1 article mentions the AM09 as an older-model alternative, but it is not an AM09 hands-on test. Ideal Home’s July 10, 2026 hands-on review concerns the HF1. Its testing, specifications, price and reviewer experience should not be attributed to the AM09. A fair comparison requires checking current regional availability and comparing like-for-like evidence.
