iFixit’s USB-C soldering iron is the FixHub Smart Soldering Iron, a 100W tool introduced in September 2024 as part of the FixHub Power Series. It can run from a suitable USB-C Power Delivery supply without the separate FixHub power station; the station adds battery-powered portability and physical controls. The product remains on iFixit’s current listing, so “starts making” refers to its 2024 launch, not a new 2026 announcement.
What is the iFixit FixHub Smart Soldering Iron?
It is a 100W soldering iron that takes power through USB-C Power Delivery (PD). iFixit launched it in September 2024 alongside the FixHub Power Series, positioning the line for repair enthusiasts, professionals and beginners. The standalone iron is a separate configuration from the portable station bundle and the soldering toolkit.
iFixit says it worked with product development firm Intercreate on the high-powered USB-C system. In iFixit’s account, USB-C carries power and data: the iron can work with compatible PD sources on its own and communicate with the FixHub station. The company describes repairability, replaceable parts, quick heating and interchangeable tips as design goals; those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent test results. iFixit’s September 2024 launch announcement and design retrospective explain the product’s development.
Do you need the FixHub power station?
No. The iron can be powered by a suitable USB-C PD supply, and the standalone package includes a USB-C cable. iFixit recommends a 65–100W PD supply for optimal performance. Check the charger’s stated PD output, not just its connector or maximum advertised wattage; a USB-C port alone does not establish that it can deliver the required power.

The separate FixHub Portable Soldering Station is useful when you need battery operation, a physical control option or its additional power-bank functionality. iFixit specifies the station at 55Wh and 100W output. At launch, the company claimed more than eight hours of continuous soldering and over 2,000 through-hole joints per charge; these are iFixit’s claims, not independently verified figures here. Temperature, controls and safety features
The factory preset is 350°C, and iFixit lists an adjustable range of 200–420°C. Temperature can be adjusted through the FixHub Power Station, a web interface or an Android app. iFixit notes that some irons may arrive with earlier firmware and asks users to update before first use; check the current setup guidance before relying on the listed controls.

iFixit lists automatic standby and fall protection, a heat-resistant cap, a non-rolling shape and a light ring that indicates heating state. These are manufacturer-described design and safety features; they have not been independently tested in the evidence available for this article. Treat them as aids rather than a substitute for safe soldering practices, including using a suitable work surface and allowing the tip to cool before storage.
Tips, repairability and what comes in the box
iFixit describes the iron as repairable and says it uses interchangeable tips. The listed package includes a Bevel 1.5 tip. The manufacturer says its tip system was developed for the tool’s power level and design requirements; the available information does not establish compatibility with Hakko, JBC or other third-party tips. Check iFixit’s current listing for replacement-tip availability and the exact package contents before buying.

What to check before choosing it
- Power source: For bench use, confirm that your USB-C supply supports PD and can provide the output iFixit recommends. For work away from mains power, compare the separate station’s battery capacity and features with your expected use.
- Temperature workflow: Decide whether adjustment through a station, web interface or Android app suits your setup, and account for the firmware update note.
- Tips and service: Verify that the supplied and replacement tips suit your work, and check current documentation and parts availability rather than assuming compatibility with another brand’s tip system.
- Total setup: Compare the standalone iron plus a suitable PD supply with the station bundle or toolkit. The right configuration depends on whether you already have a compatible charger and need battery operation or included tools.
iFixit’s launch announcement included endorsements from its own staff. Product Development Lead Brett Hartt described the line’s safety features as intended to make soldering more accessible; lead technician Shahram Mokhtari emphasized power, precision and portability. These comments express the company’s launch perspective rather than independent evaluations.
