The homepage currently says “160+ styles & spaces,” while an official comparison page says “80+ design styles.” Those figures may use different counting methods or reflect different product versions, so neither should be treated as a precise, permanent catalog size. The homepage also reports 7.76 million projects and 2.68 million users; those are company-reported figures, not independently audited adoption data.
Typical users include homeowners, DIY renovators, real-estate agents, landscapers, designers, builders and businesses that need quick visual concepts. The service is best understood as an ideation and presentation tool: it helps answer “What might this look like?” rather than “Will this fit, comply with code or be buildable?”

How the workflow works
- Upload a clear photograph of the room, exterior or garden.
- Select the relevant category and, where required, a room type, house angle, garden type and design style.
- Choose the available redesign or AI-intervention level.
- Add instructions when the selected tool and plan support them.
- Generate one or more variations.
- Refine, upscale, remove objects, alter materials or use another account-enabled tool.
- Download the result for discussion, planning or presentation.
The official documentation gives feature-specific technical guidance rather than one universal limit. Some workflows recommend images of at least 512 × 512 pixels; some tools list a 5 MB maximum file size. The Fill Spaces guide allows one to four designs per request, while the documented Perfect Redesign API supports one or two variations. API jobs may run asynchronously and require a status check. Consumer limits can differ from API limits.
Photograph preparation
- Use a well-lit, sharp image showing walls, windows, floors and room boundaries.
- Avoid severe wide-angle distortion, mirrors, heavy clutter and identifiable people.
- Keep the original image so changes can be compared.
- For editing or masking, include a small buffer around the target area for shadows and reflections.
Does it preserve your real room?
HomeDesignsAI promotes a “Structure-Lock” concept and says it preserves walls, windows and layout. The Perfect Redesign documentation includes a keep_structural_element option that defaults to true in the documented endpoint. These are product claims and documented settings, not proof of architectural measurement accuracy. See the homepage and API documentation.
“Preserve” should therefore mean visual continuity, not a guarantee that dimensions or geometry remain correct. Inspect every result for moved walls or doors, altered windows, changed ceiling height, distorted stairs, different roof geometry and impossible built-ins. Furniture can look plausible while being the wrong size or blocking a door, vent or circulation path. Use a tape measure, an accurate floor plan, manufacturer dimensions and professional verification before buying or building.

Features that matter in practice
Interior redesign
Interior workflows can explore broad styles, furniture arrangements, finishes, lighting moods and color directions. The documented Room Composer uses an image, a mask, room type, design style and an AI-intervention level. Prompt controls and iterative editing may vary by tool or subscription.
Exterior and garden concepts
Support for exteriors and gardens is a meaningful differentiator from interior-only image tools. Perfect Redesign documents Interior, Exterior and Garden categories with corresponding house-angle or garden-type inputs. These outputs are useful for discussing façade styles, planting direction, paving and outdoor mood, but they do not establish structural feasibility, drainage, mature-plant size or local planning compliance.
Fill Spaces and virtual staging
Fill Spaces offers automatic, manual or hybrid masking. Its documentation advises avoiding structural elements and refining selections with brush controls. Poor masks can put furniture over windows, bleed objects into walls, create misplaced shadows or repaint floors and ceilings. This makes the tool potentially useful for empty listings and staging concepts, provided altered images are identified as such where required by a listing service, brokerage or local rule.

Color, flooring and texture edits
The documented Floor Editor uses a room image and a texture image, with 1 × 1, 2 × 2, 3 × 3 or 4 × 4 texture-grid choices. Such renders help compare directions, not exact product color. Obtain physical samples and check manufacturer specifications under the room’s actual lighting.
Furniture, video and floor plans
The site promotes furniture discovery, one-click video walkthroughs and 2D-to-3D floor-plan features. The existence of a feature does not establish that it is included in the first plan shown at checkout. Reviews on G2 and Trustpilot include reports that some advanced functions required an upgrade. Before paying, confirm the final checkout screen and the account’s plan comparison. Check whether there is a genuinely usable free tier, whether a card is required, the billing cycle and taxes, included generations or credits, HD exports, prompts, video, staging and floor-plan access, credit expiry, renewal behavior and cancellation steps. API terms separately say credits may be non-refundable and may expire according to plan terms; do not automatically apply that rule to every consumer subscription.

Positive reviewers commonly describe quick concept generation and useful visual ideas. Negative reports mention outputs that ignore instructions or alter the wrong area, upgrade prompts after purchase, unclear plan boundaries, and difficulty cancelling or obtaining refunds. Those reports document customer experiences; they do not establish that every user encounters them, nor do allegations that it is a “scam” constitute a legal finding.
Is HomeDesignsAI legitimate?
Evidence supports the conclusion that it is a functioning operating product: it has a public service, active documentation, support materials, an API and a visible user base. That is different from saying a purchase is risk-free or that every marketing promise is independently verified. Treat first-party user counts, ratings, speed claims and style counts as company claims, and read the live terms before uploading images or starting a recurring plan.
Privacy and professional-use cautions
The API Privacy Policy says input and output data may be retained while an account is active and may be used to improve or train models unless an Enterprise Privacy arrangement applies. Do not upload sensitive documents, children’s images, private client information, unreleased plans or property photographs without the necessary permission. Professional users should obtain client consent and review commercial licensing and data controls.
Virtually staged or materially altered listing images should be labeled where required by the applicable MLS, platform, brokerage policy or jurisdiction. Disclosure rules vary, so do not assume one universal legal standard.
