The beams form oversized hour and minute hands, turning an otherwise empty wall into a glowing clock face. It is a real retail product—not merely a Kickstarter concept—but its appeal is design and atmosphere rather than low-cost, instantly readable timekeeping.
What the Hubble Traveller actually is
The Traveller is not a conventional video projector showing a complete digital clock face. Its circular body contains light sources, lenses and mechanically directed optical components. The device stays small; the wall becomes the large visual surface.
One pointer represents the hour and the other the minute. Optional printed or decorative mark rings can provide a 100-centimetre or 120-centimetre reference around the projected hands. One Balance lists the Traveller 1 at 104 mm in diameter, 86 mm high and approximately 0.75 kg. (One Balance product page)
The company describes it as a “smart optical chronometer,” but that is marketing language. In practical terms, it is a connected, light-based wall clock with a kinetic optical mechanism.

How the wall projection works
- LEDs produce colored light inside the clock.
- Lenses focus that light into narrow beams.
- Slots in mechanically controlled rings shape the beams.
- The rings rotate to aim each beam at the correct hour and minute position.
- The beams land on the wall as glowing lines that appear to be clock hands.
The hour pointer can be made to look shorter or thicker through its projection geometry, helping distinguish it from the longer minute pointer. This is LED illumination, not a laser projection system.
Models and features
Hubble Traveller 1
The two-pointer Traveller displays hours and minutes. Its app-connected functions include time adjustment, time-zone selection, color themes and brightness control. One Balance also lists multiple time zones and installation choices using either rechargeable wireless charging or a wired wall mount. Launch coverage reported alarms, sleep scheduling and low-light dimming. (New Atlas, December 3, 2024)
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity are reported, but available product information does not establish the exact iOS or Android requirements, supported Wi-Fi bands, cloud-account requirements, smart-home integrations, firmware-support policy or privacy practices. Those are sensible questions to ask before ordering.
The Moon
The Moon is the smaller, single-pointer model. Official materials list hour, minute, second, temperature and humidity modes; environmental readings depend on compatible dot sensors. One Balance’s family-set information lists it at 72 × 66 mm and approximately 0.4 kg. It is not a like-for-like substitute for the Traveller’s two-pointer hour-and-minute display.

How large and legible is it?
The available mark-ring options create a nominal 100 cm or 120 cm display, but the apparent clock size and clarity depend on mounting position, projection geometry, wall color and texture, ambient light and whether markers are installed. A perfectly legible 120 cm clock is not guaranteed on every wall.
The effect should be strongest in dim or moderate light, where the colored hands contrast with the wall. Bright sunlight, glossy paint, strong nearby lamps and television light can compete with the display. Dark walls may improve contrast but change the perceived colors; heavily textured walls can make the projected lines look uneven.
There is no independent brightness, viewing-angle, accuracy or daylight-legibility testing established in the available sources. Treat low-light visibility and similar claims as manufacturer or launch-period claims rather than measured performance.
Reading it may also take longer than reading a familiar analog clock. Without markers, users must learn which pointer is the hour hand and estimate positions from the wall geometry. An oblique viewing angle or dimmed color setting may reduce that immediacy.

Power and installation
Rechargeable installation
The wall base and clock can be installed without a permanently visible power lead, then the unit can be removed periodically for wireless charging. Launch coverage claimed up to about one week between charges; that is not an independently verified runtime and will vary with brightness, animation, connectivity and usage.
Wired installation
A wired setup is intended for continuous power. It may require drilling, cable concealment or an electrician, depending on the wall and local electrical practice. The product information lists a hand-wired base, wire box, charging cable, wireless charger and installation template among the box contents.
The listed adapter is rated for AC 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz, 1 A input and DC 12 V, 2 A output. The Traveller itself is listed at DC 12 V, 1.3 A. Confirm the final power arrangement and outlet requirements for your country before installation.
- Leave clear wall space for the full projected circle, furniture and artwork included.
- Plan marker alignment carefully; a large display makes small positioning errors visible.
- Check contrast at the actual installation time, including daylight and evening lighting.
- Verify the desired finish, mark-ring size and accessories are in stock.
Current price and retail status
One Balance’s current storefront lists the Hubble Traveller 1 at $559, shown against a $699 comparison price. The Moon is listed at $239, shown against $299. Accessories such as mark rings, chromatic dots, bezels, city marks and wireless chargers are generally displayed at $29, $49 or $69, depending on the item. Buying the base clock may therefore not be the complete cost of the intended installation.
One Balance’s FAQ states that in-stock orders typically ship the next business day unless otherwise noted, offers free shipping and provides a one-year warranty. The concept received a Red Dot design-concept award in an earlier prototype phase, according to launch coverage; that does not establish that the current production model won a specific award.
Media coverage dated December 3, 2024 described a late-November Kickstarter launch with an expected delivery around mid-2025. Campaign-tracking coverage records HK$1,044,049 raised against a HK$77,795 goal, with 296 backers and 1,342% funding, and an end date of January 27, 2025. Successful funding does not prove on-time delivery, final production quality or long-term software support.

By 2026, One Balance’s official storefront presents the Traveller 1, The Moon and accessories for direct retail purchase. That reduces the risk that the product is only a concept, but it does not independently verify every backer’s fulfillment experience.

- Design-conscious owners who want a statement piece rather than an ordinary clock.
- Homes, offices or boutique hospitality spaces with an open, high-contrast wall.
- People who enjoy ambient colored lighting, app customization and kinetic mechanisms.
- Buyers who can provide power and accept periodic charging or installation work.

Verdict
The Hubble Traveller 1 makes sense as a premium design object that happens to tell time. Its strongest proposition is the contrast between a roughly 10-centimetre device and a virtual clock face more than a metre wide. Its weaknesses are the price, installation demands, dependence on wall conditions and the still-unverified details of app support, long-term reliability and smart-home integration.
Before buying, inspect the intended wall in daylight and at night, decide whether rechargeable or wired power is practical, budget for markers or other accessories, and confirm current return and support terms. If those conditions suit you, the Traveller is an unusual conversation piece; if they do not, a conventional analog or digital clock will deliver more utility for much less money.
