Govee’s Outdoor Chromatic String Lights are designed to show multiple colors and flowing effects inside a single bulb, rather than assigning one color to each bulb. The H7045 (32.8 feet) and H7046 (65.5/65.6 feet) use Govee’s “Single-Light Rainbow System,” with app-based bulb effects, music synchronization, RGBICW color modes and smart-home control. They are a premium choice for decorative patio lighting—not a substitute for security or task lighting.
On Govee’s U.S. store, checked August 18, 2026, the 65.6-foot set was shown at $254.99, reduced from $299.99. The shorter version was displayed using a per-foot price. Promotions and regional pricing can change, so verify the current listing before buying.
What the Govee Outdoor Chromatic String Lights are
This is a festoon-style outdoor string-light system for patios, porches, decks, yards, parties and seasonal displays. It is separate from Govee’s permanent roofline lights and from the company’s other bulb-string products.

Govee announced the product on March 23, 2026, describing it as the first outdoor string light with this technology. “Industry’s first” is Govee’s claim, not an independently established industry finding. The announcement is at PR Newswire.

What “Single-Light Rainbow System” means
Traditional RGB string lights normally make each bulb—or each addressable segment—one color at a time. One bulb might be red while the next is blue.
Govee’s chromatic design places a dense LED arrangement inside each bulb so a single bulb can show a multicolor or rainbow-like effect. That distinction is more important than simply saying the bulbs are individually controllable: the visual effect can move or blend within one bulb.
Govee says its LEDs are 17 times denser than standard market offerings. That is a manufacturer comparison, not an independent measurement. The company’s explanation of the system and per-bulb customization appears in its launch announcement.
How much control you get
Govee Home app
The Govee Home app is the primary place for the product-specific features. Depending on the current app and firmware, you can select colors and effects, adjust brightness, choose preset scenes, synchronize the lights to music and customize effects for individual bulbs. One-touch scene switching makes it practical to move between everyday, party and seasonal looks.

Grouping with other Govee lights may be available when the devices, firmware and current app support the same grouping function. Do not assume that every Govee product can be synchronized with every other model.
Third-party platforms
Alexa and Google Home are useful for voice commands, routines and basic smart-home control. Matter can connect the lights to compatible ecosystems, including Apple Home where the required Matter support is available.
“Can be controlled by” is not the same as “can be fully customized through.” Third-party platforms may expose on/off, brightness, color or routine controls without exposing Govee’s complete scene library, per-bulb editing, rainbow effects or music synchronization. Matter pairing also requires a compatible Matter controller and, depending on the ecosystem, a hub or border router.

Brightness and outdoor suitability
Govee specifies up to 240 lumens per lamp for its high-brightness white-light capability and describes 54 low-power LEDs producing a bright, diffused glow. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent measurement of patio illumination. Color modes can look dimmer than white mode.
In practice, these lights are best treated as ambient and decorative lighting. They can make a patio more usable at night, but they should not automatically replace security lights, floodlights or focused task lighting.
Govee describes the bulbs as waterproof and UV-resistant, with a dual-layer shell intended to reduce yellowing and brittleness. Check the current specification table for the exact IP ratings of the light string, control box, power adapter and connectors before installation; a waterproof string does not mean every component can be submerged or left in standing water. - Protect the adapter and exposed connections as the manual instructs.
- Use the supplied power adapter.
- Keep connectors out of pooling water and create sensible drip loops.
- Do not cut or extend the string unless the manual specifically permits it.
- Keep bulbs away from crushing, impact and sustained water accumulation.
Installation checklist
- Unbox the string, control box, adapter, clips and mounting hardware.
- Plug in and test the complete set indoors before mounting it.
- Install Govee Home and add the device through Bluetooth or the app’s discovery flow.
- Install any available firmware update before final placement.
- Plan the route, bulb spacing, outlet position and control-box location.
- Mount the string with the supplied clips or suitable outdoor-rated hardware.
- Position the adapter and connectors according to the manual, away from standing water.
- Create a scene or configure bulb effects in Govee Home.
- Test app, voice and Matter control separately; outdoor Wi-Fi coverage can affect reliability.
App labels change, so follow the current on-screen instructions rather than relying on a fixed menu path from an older guide.

Price and value
On August 18, 2026, Govee’s U.S. page showed the H7046 65.6-foot set at $254.99 on sale, versus a $299.99 list price. The page displayed the H7045 using a per-foot price; confirm the actual checkout total for the selected variant. These are time-sensitive U.S. prices, not permanent MSRPs.
The premium pays for the unusual visual effect and app customization. It is harder to justify if you only need warm-white illumination, basic on/off control or the lowest cost per foot.

Do not transfer the Outdoor String Lights 2 expansion specification to the Chromatic models. The ability to combine up to three 48-foot strings is advertised for String Lights 2, not automatically for H7045 or H7046.
Limitations to consider
- App dependence: The most advanced per-bulb editing is tied to Govee Home, while third-party platforms may offer a smaller control set.
- White-light behavior: Matter Alpha reported that white light was reached through a particular scene and that white-temperature adjustment was less flexible than expected in its tested experience. Firmware and app updates can change this behavior.
- Durability evidence: UV-resistance and waterproofing claims do not prove multi-year performance in every climate.
- Connectivity: Bluetooth discovery, Wi-Fi onboarding, Matter pairing and outdoor network coverage can all cause setup problems.
- Installation flexibility: Confirm whether the chosen model is fixed-length, cuttable or extendable before planning a custom route.
Verdict: who should buy them?
Choose the Govee Outdoor Chromatic String Lights when the priority is a distinctive rainbow effect inside each bulb, app-based scenes and integration with an existing smart home. They offer something visually different from ordinary RGB strings.

Choose another product if you need inexpensive patio lights, maximum length, replaceable or custom-cut wiring, highly granular effects inside Alexa or Apple Home, or dependable functional illumination. For larger areas, Govee Outdoor String Lights 2 emphasizes coverage and combining strings; for a familiar festoon appearance, the Clear Bulb model is the more traditional choice.
