DR and Cyclone Rake each sell several tow-behind leaf-vacuum systems, so there is no universal winner. Confirm your mower, deck adapter and hitch first; then match collector capacity, hose requirements, access, storage and warranty to the property you maintain.
What this comparison covers
This is a comparison of tow-behind leaf and lawn vacuum systems, not a single-model test. DR’s range includes the PREMIER 240 and PRO 330, while Cyclone Rake offers Classic, Commander, Commercial PRO, XL, Z-10 and other configurations. Manufacturer specifications and performance descriptions are not independent, apples-to-apples test results.
Use the exact product page and compatibility information for the unit you are considering: DR PRO 330, DR PREMIER 240 and the Cyclone Rake lineup.
Capacity: compare the exact model
| System or model | Published collector capacity | Other published details |
|---|---|---|
| DR PREMIER 240 | 240 gallons | 6.6 HP OHV engine; 500-pound utility-cart capacity; optional remote-cleanup hose |
| DR PRO 330 | 330 gallons (44 cubic feet) | 9.2 HP engine; 800-pound trailer capacity; optional 20-foot hose; DR recommends 17 HP or larger lawn-tractor power |
| Cyclone Rake Classic | Approximately 200 gallons | Manufacturer positions it for smaller properties |
| Cyclone Rake Commander | Approximately 285 gallons | Mid-size configuration in Cyclone Rake’s comparison |
| Cyclone Rake Commercial PRO, XL and Z-10 | Approximately 415 gallons | Large-capacity configurations; Commercial PRO material describes an 8-inch system and five-blade impeller |
Capacities above come from manufacturer materials: Classic and Commander comparison and Commercial PRO and XL comparison. A larger collector can reduce unloading stops, but it also adds bulk. On a property with narrow gates, sharp turns or limited parking, a smaller unit may complete the job faster because it can reach more areas.
#1 Best Overall
- 3-IN-1 TRIVAC YARD CLEANUP: Blow, vacuum, and mulch leaves with this 12 Amp tool for lawn care, patios, driveways, decks, and walkways.
- STRONG BLOWING: Delivers up to 350 CFM and 210 MPH to loosen and move leaves, grass clippings, and yard debris from hard surfaces and lawn edges.
- 18:1 MULCH RATIO: Shreds leaves at an 18:1 mulch ratio to reduce bag volume and make disposal or composting easier.
- CORDED CONTINUOUS POWER: Work through longer cleanup sessions without waiting for batteries to recharge, ideal for routine seasonal leaf collection.
- VARIABLE-SPEED CONTROL: Choose lower airflow for controlled cleanup or higher airflow for larger leaf piles and open areas.
First decision: will it fit your mower?
Brand-level descriptions cannot establish whether a particular tractor or zero-turn will work. Check all four interfaces before ordering:
- Mower: record the make, full model number and engine or power rating.
- Deck: record deck width, discharge side and the deck-adapter dimensions.
- Hitch: determine whether your machine uses a traditional dual-pin or single-pin hitch.
- Clearance: measure gates, shed doors and turning areas with the hose and adapter installed.
DR says the PRO 330 fits most right-side-discharge lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers, but directs buyers to its fitting information for the individual deck and mower. Start with DR’s leaf and lawn vacuum support rather than assuming “most” means yours.
Cyclone Rake’s adapters are model-specific. Its mower deck adapter guide asks for the mower make and full model, deck size and Cyclone Rake model, and lists different adapter diameters. Cyclone Rake also sells dual-pin hitch systems and single-pin options intended for some zero-turns and tractors. Verify the exact hitch and adapter with its compatibility selector or support team.
Match the machine to your debris and route
Open lawn and routine leaves
For broad, dry lawn areas, collector capacity and turning room usually matter more than a remote hose. Choose the capacity that lets you finish a normal pass without overloading while still fitting through every access point.
Rank #2
- 120 mph sweeper vac easily clears debris from hard surfaces like driveways, decks, and garages.
- Cordless blower easily converts to vacuum mode for quick and easy vacuuming of debris from hard surfaces without the hassle of a cord, a great feature on blowers for lawn care.
- Lightweight at just 5.4 pounds for quick and easy blowing of debris; 6.9 pounds in vacuum mode. Mulching fan reduces up to 6 bags of leaves down to 1 bag while vacuuming.
- Electric leaf blower with High Performance 40V MAX* Lithium Ion Battery provides long runtime and state of charge indicator to show battery charge level. Powercommand controls speed for maximum run-time or maximum power
- Low noise design allows for quiet operation. Blow tube has built-in scraper allows users to loosen matted leaves and stuck-on debris on this cordless leaf blower high power. Soft grip handle of leaf sweeper provides added comfort during use.
Dense piles, wet material and clippings
Wet leaves, heavy grass clippings and dense piles increase clogging risk and loading weight for any tow-behind vacuum. DR’s operating guidance says to mow dry grass and no more than two inches at a time to prevent clogging at the deck adapter and vacuum hose, and to run the tractor deck at full throttle for maximum lift. That is DR guidance, not a cross-brand performance guarantee; see its support instructions.
Beds, fences and areas the deck cannot reach
A remote hose is valuable when the mower cannot drive over the debris. DR lists an optional vacuum hose on the PREMIER 240 and a 20-foot optional hose on the PRO 330. Cyclone Rake models use 7- or 8-inch hose systems depending on configuration and advertise a JetPath system on performance and premium models. Treat those descriptions as the makers’ specifications and marketing claims; hose reach and diameter must be checked for the exact model.
How each system handles material and storage
DR describes a process in which the mower deck lifts debris into the blade, then sends partially mulched material through a toothed-steel impeller into the collector. This is the manufacturer’s description, not an independently measured reduction rate. DR says the collector top folds and removes, the engine rolls away on an integrated trolley, and the configured units can serve as utility carts.
Cyclone Rake says its units fold flat to about 8 inches for storage, while its model pages identify removable or folding components by configuration. Confirm the assembled dimensions, hose routing and adapter width before deciding where the machine will live; Cyclone Rake notes that the hose and adapter can increase overall width.
Rank #3
- Keep Your Lawn Spotless: Unlike most lawn sweepers, our lawn sweeper has thickened and densified brushes to increase the overall sweeping force and prevent deformation. With a sweeping width of 21"/53.5 cm, it can pick up 80% of the debris in one pass.
- Stepless Brush Height Adjustment: The lawn sweeper is designed with an adjustable spinning brush height–simply adjust the knob by hand to move brushes up and down without the need for any special tools. You can use it on any terrain, whether it's a sidewalk, driveway, yard, or garden.
- Collect More Debris: Our yard sweeper has a high-quality non-woven hopper bag with a large capacity of 3.5 ft³, allowing you to collect more grass, leaves, and debris at once without frequent dumping. It's easy to remove from the frame and quickly dump when cleaning is complete.
- Install & Store with Ease: Our push lawn sweeper has an advanced storage design, making it easy to install and store with quick clips on both sides. Once the yard work is complete, it can be stored in a shed or hung on a garage wall. The bottom support feet lean against the wall without tipping over.
- Effortless Cleaning: Just grab the ergonomic handle, push your yard leaf sweeper from behind for easy cleaning. It quickly picks up leaves, small twigs, grass clippings, and other dry debris, cleaning your entire lawn with fantastic speed.
Warranty and ownership checks
Warranty coverage changes with model, engine and use:
| Brand and use | Published term | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| DR residential consumer use | Two years | Coverage begins on shipment, applies to the original owner and excludes maintenance and normally wearing parts; verify the exact current model terms |
| DR other use | 90 days | Confirm whether your property-management or commercial use falls outside residential coverage |
| Cyclone Rake residential | Two years for Classic, Commander, Commercial PRO and CRS Commander with the listed standard engine; three years with the named Vanguard upgrade; three years for listed XL and Z-10 versions | Terms depend on exact engine and model |
| Cyclone Rake commercial | Six months | Verify current terms before purchase |
See DR’s support and warranty information and Cyclone Rake’s warranty article, updated July 17, 2025: Cyclone Rake warranty coverage. Price is only part of ownership cost: include the correctly sized deck adapter, hitch, optional hose, shipping, engine maintenance and likely wear parts.
Safety check for older DR machines
On May 2, 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall covering specifically listed DR walk-behind and tow-behind leaf blower and vacuum model numbers. The notice cited a laceration hazard from loose pieces being ejected and said: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled leaf blowers and vacuums, and contact DR Power for a free dealer-installed repair.” It covered about 57,200 units in the United States and 956 in Canada, not every DR machine. Check the model list in the CPSC recall notice before operating an older unit.
A practical buying sequence
- Write down your mower’s full model, deck width, discharge side and hitch type.
- Use the DR or Cyclone Rake compatibility tool or support team to confirm the deck adapter and hitch.
- Measure every gate, shed door and storage bay with the adapter and hose fitted.
- Estimate a typical cleanup: leaf volume, wet or dry conditions, beds requiring hose work and unloading locations.
- Select the smallest capacity that avoids excessive unloading without blocking access or exceeding your mower’s recommendations.
- Compare the complete delivered cost and the warranty for your actual residential or commercial use.
- If buying used, check the serial/model against the CPSC recall list and confirm that safety repairs were completed.
Which one should you choose?
DR is the better starting point when…
- Your mower and deck match DR’s documented fit, and you prefer the PREMIER 240 or PRO 330 capacity options.
- You want DR’s stated utility-cart configuration or its removable, trolley-supported storage design.
- You need the PRO 330’s listed 20-foot optional hose and have at least the recommended tractor power.
Cyclone Rake is the better starting point when…
- You need a choice from approximately 200 to 415 gallons and can match the model-specific adapter and hitch.
- A fold-flat storage arrangement near 8 inches is important in your shed or trailer plan.
- Your mower uses a single-pin hitch and a compatible Cyclone Rake option is confirmed.
Neither list is a blanket verdict. The right purchase is the model that fits your mower without improvisation, reaches the debris you actually collect, fits your property’s access and storage constraints, and carries warranty terms appropriate to your use.
