A toaster oven belongs under a cabinet only when its manufacturer explicitly approves that exact model for under-cabinet mounting. Purpose-built BLACK+DECKER/Spacemaker TROS1500 and TROS1000 families are documented for this use, but their manuals are older and do not establish that a new unit is currently available. Check the model, manual, cabinet fit, clearances, and electrical access before buying or drilling.
Which toaster ovens are designed for under-cabinet mounting?
The BLACK+DECKER/Spacemaker TROS1500/TROS1500B and TROS1000/TROS1000Q families are documented as under-the-cabinet toaster ovens. Their manuals describe mounting templates and installation hardware. That makes them relevant candidates—not an assurance of current stock, condition, warranty, or support. Verify the exact model and what is included in any listing.
Danby’s FAQ makes the key distinction: “Some toaster ovens are designed for under-cabinet mounting. Refer to your owner’s manual for details.” Danby USA FAQ Ordinary countertop toaster ovens should not be assumed safe to mount beneath a cabinet.
How much clearance does an under-cabinet toaster oven need?
There is no universal clearance figure: follow the installation instructions for the exact model. Panasonic says, “The toaster can be installed in a cabinet however it will require sufficient air flow.” Its guidance gives examples that vary by model:

These are Panasonic examples, not dimensions to apply to the Spacemaker models or any other toaster oven. Check the appliance manual and any manufacturer installation guidance for required ventilation and placement. What to check before buying
- Exact model approval: Find an explicit under-cabinet mounting statement in the manual for the model being sold. Similar appearance or a brand name is not enough.
- Cabinet shape and strength: Confirm the installation template works with a flat cabinet bottom or its overhang molding, and that the cabinet can support the appliance.
- Template and hardware: Verify whether a mounting template, hood, washers, and spacers are included or must be sourced separately. Do not assume an older manual’s hardware comes with a used or resale unit.
- Clearances and nearby heat: Compare the actual installation area with the model’s airflow requirements. Do not mount over or near another heating or cooking appliance, or beneath an under-cabinet light.
- Plug access: The outlet and cord must remain accessible so the appliance can be unplugged. Confirm the cord can reach without being pinched or routed against a hot surface.
- Condition and support: For older or secondhand products, check the unit’s condition, parts availability, and current warranty or service support before committing.
What the Spacemaker manuals require during installation
The TROS1500 manual identifies the appliance as an “UNDER-THE-CABINET TOASTER OVEN.” It describes using a template, drilling four holes, and using washers; spacers are used where an overhang lip affects the fit. The TROS1000/TROS1000Q manual likewise addresses flat cabinets and overhang molding. Follow the exact manual for the model in hand rather than transferring dimensions or steps between families.

- Check the installation location: Make sure the appliance will not be over or near a heating or cooking appliance, under an under-cabinet light, or inaccessible for unplugging.
- Match the template to the cabinet: Account for any overhang molding as the manual directs, and confirm the cabinet structure is suitable before marking holes.
- Drill carefully: Wear eye protection, as the TROS1000/TROS1000Q manual instructs. Avoid drilling into cabinet partitions or other concealed structures.
- Use the specified mounting parts: Install the manual’s prescribed washers and, where applicable, spacers. Do not improvise fasteners or omit parts to make the appliance fit.
- Check access and airflow before use: Confirm the plug can be reached and that the installed unit meets the model’s ventilation and clearance requirements.
When not to mount a toaster oven under a cabinet
- The manual does not explicitly approve under-cabinet mounting for the exact model.
- The cabinet does not match the manual’s installation arrangement, is not strong enough, or cannot accommodate required clearances.
- The planned location is over or near a cooking or heating appliance, beneath an under-cabinet light, or near water where the manufacturer warns against placement.
- The outlet cannot be reached to unplug the appliance, or safe cord routing is not possible.
