Water near a Samsung ice maker can come from several places, so the puddle alone does not identify a failed part. Start by noting exactly where the water appears. Dispenser drips may come from ice melting in the chute because its seal does not meet the bucket; a puddle elsewhere may be condensation or a spill. If the leak followed a move or door removal, a disturbed water line or coupler is another possibility. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance recommends service if the leak returns after cleanup.
Start with where the water appears
Dry the water and look for its source before attempting a repair. Samsung treats water inside the refrigerator, dripping at the dispenser, and leaks around water connections as different symptoms. That distinction matters: a chute gasket is relevant only if you see dispenser dripping and confirm a gap at the seal.
| Where you see water | Possible explanation | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Puddle or frozen sheet inside the refrigerator | Condensation, including after a recent power interruption, or a spill from food or a container | Clear and dry the area, then check whether water returns. Samsung advises service for a returning leak. Samsung guidance |
| Drips from the water or ice dispenser | Ice residue in the chute, or a gap between the chute gasket and ice bucket that lets warm air in and melts ice | Clear residue, dry the chute, and check that the gasket sits flush against the bucket. Samsung guidance |
| Leak after moving the refrigerator, installation, or door removal | A water line or coupler may not be seated properly if it was disturbed | Use the model’s manual for any inspection of lines or couplers. Samsung notes that a poorly connected line under the hinge cover can allow air into the coupler and cause a drip. Samsung guidance |
What to check for dispenser drips
- Remove visible ice residue. Clear ice from the dispenser chute and dry the area, then watch to see whether dripping stops.
- Inspect the seal. With the bucket properly seated, check whether the gasket around the chute meets the ice bucket without a visible gap. A gap can admit warm air, melt ice, and lead to drips. Samsung points to its refrigerator-leveling guidance when addressing a poor seal: Samsung troubleshooting.
- Confirm the bucket is seated and locked. A bucket that is not fully in place can interfere with the seal. Follow your model’s manual rather than forcing the bucket or adjusting parts by guesswork.
If inspection confirms a poor chute-to-bucket seal, a replacement gasket may be relevant. Samsung’s guidance does not identify a universal gasket part number; match any part to the refrigerator’s full model number. A gasket is not a general fix for an unexplained puddle or a leak from a water connection.
If the leak began after a move or door removal
Moving the refrigerator, installing it, or removing its doors can disturb water lines and couplers. Samsung identifies a poorly connected line under the hinge cover as one possible cause of a drip. Check the model-specific manual for access instructions, and do not dismantle a connection if you are unsure how to restore it securely. If the leak persists or the connection is not clearly accessible, arrange service.

Model-specific issue: swapped dispensing on RS27T and RS22T
On Samsung RS27T and RS22T models, cross-connected water lines can cause the water and ice dispensing functions to be swapped. Samsung identifies correcting the connections as the resolution for this specific symptom. Do not assume this applies to other models; verify the complete model number and use its instructions. Samsung troubleshooting guidance.
When to check water pressure—and when to call a plumber
For relevant dispenser-equipped models, Samsung gives two operational checks: the water supply should dispense 6 ounces (three-quarters of a cup) in under 10 seconds, and the minimum pressure for relevant supply checks is 20 psi. These are model-dependent troubleshooting checks, not universal specifications for every Samsung refrigerator. Follow the exact manual for your model. If household water pressure is the concern, contact a plumber rather than modifying the refrigerator’s supply.

Do not manually defrost the ice maker
Samsung warns against manually defrosting the ice maker because doing so may damage it. If automatic defrost is not working, or ice-maker leakage continues, arrange service instead of applying heat or attempting a manual defrost. Samsung’s Philippines support page also discusses basic defrost-drain troubleshooting; use your own model’s manual for applicable instructions.
