Whether a SKIL tool is any good depends on the specific model and the work you expect it to do—not just the brand name.
Who owns SKIL, and does Bosch still make it?
SKIL is a Chervon brand. Chervon says it acquired the SKIL and SKILSAW businesses in North America in 2017. It separately says the sale of the European SKIL business from Bosch Power Tools was completed on 31 March 2017. Bosch is therefore part of SKIL’s ownership history, but Chervon is the current owner.
Chervon says its power-tool business was founded in Nanjing in 1994 and handles functions including research and development, sourcing, manufacturing, testing, sales and after-sales service. It lists production facilities in Nanjing, China, and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Those company-wide statements do not identify where any particular SKIL model is made; check the product label or model-specific documentation for that information. SKIL and SKILSAW are distinct product names, even though Chervon’s history mentions acquiring both businesses.
Chervon says SKIL products are distributed primarily in North America, Europe and Australia. The selection and warranty terms can vary by market, so confirm the local product documentation and support arrangements.

Are SKIL power tools any good?
There is no sound basis for a blanket yes-or-no judgment about every SKIL tool. Chervon describes its range as including consumer- and professional-grade products, while SKIL markets tools for DIY projects. These are company descriptions, not independent comparative tests of current models. The official information available here does not establish a brand-wide ranking for performance or reliability.
For construction work or serious home projects, evaluate the exact tool against the task and how often you will use it. A drill suited to occasional fastening may not be the right choice for daily site use; likewise, one tool’s performance does not establish the quality of every other product in the brand’s range. Look for credible, independent evidence about the model you are considering, especially for performance, ergonomics, durability and service.

- Check the battery platform: SKIL says batteries work with tools within the same platform. Verify the exact platform and model compatibility before buying a bare tool, battery or charger.
- Compare complete kit contents: Listings may differ in whether they include a battery, charger, case or accessories. Factor in compatible batteries you already own and anything you still need to buy.
- Read the warranty for your market and use: Coverage can differ by product category and between consumer and professional use. Seller eligibility can also matter.
What SKIL warranty applies in the US and Canada?
SKIL’s warranty page names Chervon North America, Inc. as warrantor. The terms apply to products sold in the United States and Canada, are subject to the page’s conditions, and generally require an original purchaser who bought from an authorized SKIL retailer. The page was marked “LAST UPDATED: 11/21/2025”; check the live terms for changes before purchase. Coverage listed on that page is:

The warranty page also lists a 180-day “STAY TRUE” return guarantee for eligible SPT tools, subject to its conditions. It excludes reconditioned tools and purchases from unauthorized sellers. Buyers outside the US and Canada should check with their local dealer or importer rather than assume these terms apply.

Which SKIL tools and battery systems should you check?
SKIL’s product range includes saws, drills and drivers, impact drivers and wrenches, benchtop tools, batteries and chargers, and lawn-and-garden equipment. The company’s homepage features a 12V Brushless 1/2-inch Compact Drill Driver, but that listing alone does not show whether it is the right drill for a particular task.
Before adding a tool to a system you already own, use the precise model documentation to confirm that the battery and charger match its platform. A shared brand name is not enough to establish compatibility across every SKIL tool.
