Some striking European buildings welcome visitors inside; others are best appreciated from the street. The verified examples here are in Barcelona and Vienna—not a confirmed list of 19—so this guide focuses on what you can actually see and how access works at each place.
Barcelona: Gaudí’s buildings with visitor access
Casa Batlló
Casa Batlló is a public visitor attraction, not just an exterior photo stop. Its official site offers visit experiences inside the building, with interpretation that includes an audio guide and exhibitions. Because schedules and exhibition details can change, check the official Casa Batlló site before planning a visit, and confirm what your chosen ticket includes on the visit information page.
Sagrada Família
The basilica offers official admission and guided visits. A regular admission ticket includes the basilica and museum, but does not include the towers or crypt; the official ticket information also describes an app-based audio guide. Check the specific ticket option and the official visit information before booking, especially if tower access is part of your plan.
Vienna: a famous façade and a public alternative
Hundertwasserhaus
Hundertwasserhaus is a residential building, so visitors view it from outside rather than touring its apartments. Designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, with Josef Krawina as co-creator and Peter Pelikan as implementing architect, it was built between 1983 and 1985. The Vienna tourism site explains the access limit and points visitors to the nearby Hundertwasser Village.
#1 Best Overall
Hundertwasser Village
Across from the house, the Hundertwasser Village offers a public interior visit in a former tire workshop. It was formed in 1990–1991, and its operator says it is open daily with free admission. Check the Village’s official site for current visitor information. This is the practical choice if you want to go inside a related Hundertwasser-designed space rather than only see the residential building from the street.
