TCL advertises a 0.3-second unlock time, eight AA batteries lasting up to nine months, IP54 protection and several entry methods. But it is not an unequivocally offline lock: TCL’s product page says data stays local with no cloud or external servers, while TCL’s FAQ says the D1 series connects to Tuya Cloud. Treat the privacy architecture as unresolved until TCL identifies exactly which data and functions use cloud services.
What the TCL D1 offers
The D1 combines a fingerprint reader and keypad with app-based access. TCL’s global listing also describes built-in Wi-Fi, real-time alerts and compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The TCL Homesecurity listing showed a price of $89.99 USD on September 28, 2026; that is a changeable storefront price, not a guaranteed current price or universal regional offer.

The Tuya Cloud contradiction
TCL’s own Smart Lock FAQ says, “TCL smart lock D1 series is connected to Tuya Cloud, data transmission is more secure, and hacker intrusion is effectively prevented.” The two statements are not reconciled in the reviewed material. They could refer to different data categories or functions, but TCL does not explain which.
Questions to ask before buying
- Are fingerprint templates stored only in the lock, or does any biometric data leave it?
- Do remote unlocking, notifications or voice-assistant integrations require Tuya or another cloud service?
- What information does the app transmit, where is it retained and how can an account or device be deleted?
- What encryption protocol and update process protect the lock and app?
TCL also uses the phrase “advanced encryption,” but no protocol, threat model or independent assessment was identified. Privacy-focused buyers should obtain written answers for their regional D1 model rather than relying on the “no cloud” wording alone.

The available extracted material does not provide complete door-thickness, backset, bore or bundled-hardware requirements. Use the model and region-specific D1 Smart Lock Manual before purchase. Confirm that the existing door preparation, frame clearance and interior space match the manual; a locksmith can handle installation when a retrofit is uncertain.
Pairing and setup
TCL provides an installation-video index covering installation, app pairing, fingerprints, passwords, auto-lock and reset or administrator-password setup. Follow the sequence for your regional model, create an administrator credential, enroll more than one trusted fingerprint and test the physical-key backup before relying on the lock.

Battery planning
Eight AA cells are the stated power source. The “up to nine months” figure is laboratory data and will change with traffic, Wi-Fi conditions, alerts and wake frequency. Keep compatible replacement batteries available, enable low-battery warnings and verify the emergency-power procedure in the manual before installation. Do not infer a particular battery chemistry or brand from the product page.
Common problems and practical checks
“Why doesn’t my smart lock recognize my fingerprint?”
- Clean and dry the reader and finger; moisture, dirt and damaged skin can reduce recognition.
- Re-enroll the finger in the position normally used to open the door, adding another finger as a backup.
- Use the password or physical key while troubleshooting, then consult the regional manual for reset instructions.
“Why does my lock keep disconnecting from Wi-Fi?”
- Check that the lock is within reliable wireless range and that the home network meets the app’s requirements.
- Confirm app permissions, account status and current firmware instructions.
- Test local entry methods; a Wi-Fi outage should not prevent a properly configured fingerprint, password or key entry.
“Why does my lock battery drain so quickly?”
- Frequent unlocks, repeated wake-ups, weak Wi-Fi and constant notifications can increase consumption.
- Replace the full set of cells together with the type specified by the manual.
- If rapid drain continues, record usage and contact TCL support; the published nine-month figure is not a guarantee for household conditions.
Security and certification claims
TCL’s FAQ says its smart locks meet BHMA Grade 3 standards. The reviewed sources do not include an independent certification listing or identify the exact D1 SKU covered, so treat this as a TCL statement and request certification evidence for the model sold in your market. No independent security audit, biometric benchmark or reliability study was established.

- Proceed carefully: buyers whose main requirement is verifiable offline operation, independently tested biometric performance or documented certification.
- Before installation: verify regional fit requirements, cloud/data handling, emergency power access and support availability.
The D1’s speed, convenience and listed protections are attractive, but its privacy description is internally inconsistent. Make the purchase decision only after the seller clarifies the cloud relationship for your exact model.
