If your Samsung washer displays UE or UB, pause the cycle, untangle and spread the laundry evenly around the drum, then restart using your model’s controls. A very small load may need one or two towels before you run Rinse/Spin. If the washer keeps shaking or showing an error, check that it is level and—on a newly installed front-loader—that its shipping bolts were removed. Code meanings and procedures vary by model, so use the manual for your exact washer.
What UE, UB and related Samsung washer codes mean
Samsung U.S. groups dc*, Ub, U6, Ur, UE, 1 Ub and 1U6 under unbalanced-load errors. Samsung’s code guide distinguishes Ur from the others: Ur indicates that the washer is retrying, potentially adding water and attempting to rebalance before spinning again. This can extend the cycle. The other listed codes indicate that the washer will not complete the cycle because it detects an unbalanced load.
Do not assume every code has the same meaning across models. Samsung notes that dc can indicate an unbalanced load on some washers and a door error on others. A Samsung Laundry Combo manual also says UB may appear when there is too little laundry as well as when a load is unbalanced. Check the manual for the exact model and market before interpreting a code.
How to rebalance the laundry and restart
- Pause the washer. Use the pause control when the code appears. Open the door only when it is safe and the washer has released its lock.
- Untangle and redistribute the items. Separate bundled clothing and spread the pieces around the drum so the weight is not concentrated on one side.
- Adjust a very small load. Samsung UK recommends adding one or two towels when a load is too small, then starting Rinse/Spin. Stay within the capacity and cycle guidance for your washer.
- Close the door and restart. Use the controls and cycle instructions in the model’s manual.
Single bulky or absorbent items can be difficult to balance. Samsung UK gives the example of washing only a bathrobe or pair of jeans: the final spin may be unsatisfactory and a Ub/UE code may appear. Bedding can also tangle or collect on one side. Choose a suitable cycle and follow the capacity guidance for the particular model; there is no single load-weight rule that applies to every Samsung washer. See Samsung UK’s Ub/UE guidance.

Check whether the washer is stable and level
Redistributing laundry addresses a load imbalance; it does not correct an unstable installation. If the washer rocks or vibrates, check that it stands on a stable floor, that all feet are firmly in contact with it, and that the machine is level. Samsung recommends checking level with a spirit level and adjusting the feet as directed in the washer’s instructions. An adjustable wrench may help if the model’s instructions call for one; neither tool is necessary for every washer. Follow Samsung’s spin-troubleshooting guidance and the model-specific instructions for foot adjustment.
For a newly installed front-loader
Check the rear of the washer for transport shipping bolts and confirm they were removed according to the installation instructions. Samsung warns that a new front-loader can shake substantially if shipping bolts remain installed. Handle removed parts as the manual directs.

If the washer still will not spin
A washer may also fail to spin properly because it cannot drain. Samsung lists a kinked or obstructed drain hose and a clogged debris filter among the possible checks. These are drainage issues, not proof that the load is unbalanced. Before opening or cleaning any component, follow the instructions for your exact model; refer to Samsung’s washer troubleshooting guide.
If redistributing the laundry and checking stability, leveling and installation do not resolve recurring codes or vibration, contact Samsung support or a qualified service provider. A UE/UB code alone does not establish that a suspension, bearing, sensor or control component has failed.
