Dyson Pure Cool Review: Does the Purifying Fan Clean a Room Well?

Dyson Pure Cool combines a fan with HEPA and carbon filtration, but model differences and limited independent throughput data matter. Here’s what to know before buying.

Verdict: Dyson Pure Cool combines a bladeless fan with sealed particle and gas filtration, but its ability to circulate cooling air is not proof that it can clean a whole room quickly. The clearest independent test in the available evidence found the TP01’s particle-cleaning throughput low, making it a better fit for very small spaces than large living areas. Consider one if you value the combined fan-and-filter design and its comfort features; if fast, measurable air cleaning is the priority, compare dedicated purifiers by clean-air delivery rate (CADR) before buying.

What the Dyson Pure Cool does—and what its filtration claims mean

Pure Cool is a family of bladeless desk and tower fans that draw room air through a filter and project the treated air into the space. Dyson describes a sealed system combining a glass-fiber HEPA filter for particles with activated carbon for gases and odors. Its technology page says the filter captures 99.97% of microscopic allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns; Dyson’s tower specification separately gives 99.95% capture for allergens and pollutants as small as 0.1 microns, and describes a 360-degree borosilicate glass microfiber HEPA filter, activated carbon and rubber vacuum seals. These are Dyson claims, not independent measurements of how quickly a particular room is cleaned.

The two percentages refer to different stated particle sizes and are not directly comparable. In either case, a filter-capture percentage describes air passing through the filter; it does not tell you how much air the fan can process over time. Whole-room cleaning also depends on filtration throughput and room volume. Dyson says its carbon treatment targets gases including formaldehyde, benzene and nitrogen dioxide. That is a materials and manufacturer claim, not evidence here of a measured reduction for a specific gas in a particular home.

Does it clean a room effectively?

The most useful independent throughput evidence here is RTINGS’ TP01 test, updated in 2026. It measured a PM1.0 CADR of 105 m³/hr (62 CFM) and recommended the model for a room of 8.9 m² (96 ft²) at maximum speed. RTINGS characterized its particle-filtration rate as poor and said the TP01 is better suited to very small dorm rooms, bedrooms or offices than to large living areas. Treat those as model- and test-specific findings, not measurements of every Pure Cool version.

Dyson Pure Cool Purifier Fan TP4A remote controlled purifying fan with HEPA filtration (White and Silver), Standard (Renewed)
  • SENSES POLLUTANTS IN REAL TIME: Automatically detects and reports air quality levels in real time on PM 2.5, PM 10, VOC and NO2.
  • CAPTURES POLLUTANTS WITH 360-DEGREE SEALED HEPA & ACTIVATED CARBON FILTERS: The fully-sealed filter system combines an activated Carbon filter to remove gases, and a Glass HEPA filter that captures 99.97% of microscopic allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns.
  • PROJECTS POWERFUL AIRFLOW: Air Multiplier technology delivers over 77 gallons per second of smooth, yet powerful airflow – circulating purified air throughout the whole room.
  • REMOTE CONTROL: Curved to store neatly on top of the machine
  • OSCILLATES UP TO 350-DEGREES: Adjustable oscillation angle from 45° to 350°, to help project purified air around the whole room.

CADR—clean air delivery rate—helps compare how much filtered air a purifier supplies. A high capture percentage alone cannot substitute for it: a filter might capture a high share of particles in the air that passes through it while the device circulates too little air to clean a large room quickly. Compare CADR, the room size associated with that figure, and the speed/noise level used to obtain it. The RTINGS TP01 figures above are the only independent CADR and room recommendation established here.

Dyson argues that conventional CADR does not represent real-size-room performance and promotes its own POLAR test on its product material. That is Dyson’s position on its testing method; it does not make the TP01’s independent result disappear, nor is a directly comparable POLAR result for each model provided here. For a purchase decision, treat manufacturer room-performance claims and independent CADR measurements as different kinds of evidence.

How loud is it, and does the airflow feel useful?

Noise varies with model, speed and test conditions. RTINGS measured the TP01 at 32.5 dBA on minimum speed and 55.0 dBA on maximum. Dyson’s tower specification lists a minimum sound level below 45 dB(A) and 63 dB(A) at maximum flow. TechRadar measured the TP10 at 26–33 dB in quiet modes and 52 dB at speed 10. These figures come from different sources and tests, so they are useful as ranges of reported experience, not a controlled head-to-head comparison.

Dyson specifies 10 fan speeds, 70-degree oscillation, auto and quiet modes, a hidden LED display and sleep timers for the tower specification. TechRadar describes the TP10’s cooling airflow as smooth and still perceptible at 14 ft (4.3 m). That is a report about airflow reach and comfort, not a claim that the TP10 cleans air at a particular distance or room-wide rate. If you expect to run a fan at high speed overnight, consider the reported maximum-speed noise as well as the quieter-mode readings.

TP01, TP04, TP07 and TP10: what is established

The model numbers are not interchangeable: available evidence differs by generation, region and source. The table separates measured results, manufacturer specifications and publication-time pricing rather than treating them as one standardized comparison.

Model What the available evidence establishes Buying implication
TP01 RTINGS’ 2026 review update measured 105 m³/hr (62 CFM) PM1.0 CADR, recommended 8.9 m² (96 ft²) at maximum speed, and measured 32.5–55.0 dBA from minimum to maximum speed. Best supported for a very small room if fan comfort matters; the measured cleaning throughput is a concern for larger spaces.
TP04 Dyson’s parts catalog lists a genuine Combi Glass HEPA and activated-carbon replacement filter compatible with TP04. Confirm the exact model before ordering a replacement; the catalog evidence establishes filter compatibility, not TP04 cleaning performance.
TP07 Dyson Australia lists HEPA H13 sealing, 99.95% ultrafine-particle removal, MyDyson app support and maximum airflow of 290 l/s. The Australian product page gives an RRP of A$949. These are Australian manufacturer specifications and price, not a global price or independent CADR result. Do not compare the 290 l/s airflow figure directly with a CADR as though they were the same measure.
TP10 TechRadar reports HEPA H13 and activated-carbon filtration, PM2.5/PM10 sensing, no app support and 10 fan speeds. Its 2025 publication listed prices of $429.99, £449.99 and AU$799. Those are publication-time list prices in three markets, not guaranteed current offers. TechRadar’s noise readings were 26–33 dB in quiet modes and 52 dB at speed 10.

Feature and performance information is not equally available for every model, so absence from this table does not prove a feature is absent. Before purchase, check the model label on the base and the product listing for your region. Dyson’s current Australia TP07 page and a 2025 TP10 price listing also should not be read as a same-date price comparison.

Filter replacement and ongoing ownership

Dyson specifies filter life of one year at 12 hours of use per day, or six months at 24 hours per day, for the tower specification. That is a use-based manufacturer interval, not a guarantee that every household’s filter will last exactly that long. Include the cost and availability of a genuine replacement in your ownership comparison; no replacement-filter price is established here.

For a TP04, Dyson’s parts catalog identifies a genuine Combi Glass HEPA and Activated Carbon Filter. The listed compatible models are TP04, TP07, TP09, TP10, HP10, DP04 and HP04. Because compatibility is model-specific, match the base label and the catalog listing before ordering; do not assume every Dyson Pure Cool filter fits every tower.

Should you buy a Dyson fan-purifier or separate devices?

The all-in-one design may suit someone who wants one floor-standing appliance to provide a fan, filtration, oscillation and—on some versions—sensors or app controls. Its trade-off is that airflow convenience and filter capture do not guarantee strong particle-cleaning throughput. RTINGS says cheaper, better-performing dedicated purifiers exist, while TechRadar notes that pairing a separate Blueair purifier with a Shark fan can cost less than the TP10. Those are comparison observations, not a fixed price verdict: local pricing and the exact products chosen change the total.

  • Choose Pure Cool for combination and comfort: you want a fan and filter in one appliance, and its speed, noise and feature set suit your room.
  • Prioritize a dedicated purifier for cleaning rate: compare independently reported CADR and room guidance, especially for a large or heavily used space.
  • Compare separate devices on total cost: add the price of a purifier and fan, replacement filters, and any features you would otherwise get from the Dyson model.
  • Check the exact model: sensor, app, airflow, price and filter details vary among TP01, TP04, TP07 and TP10.

Final assessment

Dyson Pure Cool is most compelling as a quiet, well-featured fan that also filters air—not as an automatic substitute for a high-throughput room purifier. The TP01’s independent test supports a very-small-room use case, while evidence supplied for TP04, TP07 and TP10 establishes selected parts, features, specifications and prices rather than comparable cleaning rates. If particle removal is your main reason to buy, make CADR and appropriate room coverage the deciding figures; if you want the combined appliance, budget for filter replacement and verify the precise model before choosing.
