Dyson announced its PencilVac on May 21, 2025, describing it as a 38mm-diameter cordless vacuum with a motor that spins at up to 140,000 RPM. The announcement does not establish a universal release date, current price, or availability by market, so the exact wait to get one depends on a listing Dyson has not confirmed in the cited material.
What is the Dyson PencilVac?
The PencilVac is a cordless vacuum Dyson presents as an exceptionally slim format, built around a narrow handle, compact motor, four conical brush bars, and a linear dust-separation system. Its 38mm body diameter is a manufacturer specification, not an independent comparison with competing vacuums. Dyson called it its slimmest vacuum cleaner in its May 21, 2025 announcement: Dyson’s PencilVac announcement.
The announcement identifies the product and describes its features, but it does not confirm when customers in every market can buy it. Nor does a later event page establish that the PencilVac is currently on sale. Check Dyson’s listing for your country for live price and stock information before making a purchase decision.
How slim is it, and what does the motor do?
Dyson gives the PencilVac a 38mm diameter and a weight of 1.8kg. It says the vacuum can lie flat to 95mm to reach beneath low furniture. Those figures describe the product; they do not establish how it compares in cleaning performance with another model.

#1 Best Overall
- Ultra-slim. Cleans in all directions. The 1.5in handle fits into your hand. And the multi-directional cleaner heads make it easier to clean hard floors all around the home.
- De-tangles and removes long hair. Fluffycones cleaner head has four conical brush bars, to lift and strip hair so it can be easily sucked up with no tangling.
- Illuminates dust on hard floors. Two precisely angled blades of light reveal twice the amount of invisible dust in all directions, so you don’t miss a thing on hard floors.
- Lightweight and maneuverable. Weighs less than 4lbs. The Fluffycones hard floor cleaner head swivels around chair and table legs, reaches into awkward gaps, and flattens to fit under sofas with a height of just 3.75 in.
- 50 Air Watts of fade-free suction. Powered by a Dyson Hyperdymium digital motor spinning at up to 140,000rpm.
Dyson says the 28mm Hyperdymium 140k motor spins at up to 140,000 RPM and produces 55 air watts of suction. The company calls it its smallest and fastest vacuum motor to date and says it is 34% more power dense than its predecessor. The 55-air-watt figure was tested in boost mode to ASTM F1977 externally at SGS America in 2024, according to Dyson’s announcement. Motor speed alone does not show how quickly a vacuum will clean a room or how well it will perform across different floor types.
What are the four conical brush bars for?
Dyson’s Fluffycones head uses four conical brush bars that rotate in opposing directions. The company says the cones eject long hair, allow forward and backward cleaning, and reach close to edges. These are Dyson’s product claims; the cited material does not provide an independent head-to-head test of hair pickup or edge cleaning.

- EASY TO MANEUVER - The ultra-slim, lightweight handle is just 1.5 inches in diameter and 0.8 lbs in hand for ergonomic steering.
- WASH AWAY SPILLS, STAINS AND DEBRIS - The 64,000-filament microfiber roller powerfully washes away wet spills and stains, while removing debris and dirt on hard floors. Switch to MAX mode for spot cleaning and dried on stains. Unlike your mop, dirty water and debris is scraped away with each rotation so you don't use dirty water to clean.
- CONTINUOUS HYGIENIC CLEANING - Dirty water and debris are extracted from the roller on every rotation, while 8 hydration points ensure the floor is always washed with clean water.
- GOOD FOR SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED ROOMS Covers up to 1076 sqft.² A 300ml clean water tank stored in the cleaner head for optimum balance and less weight in hand.
- SELF-PROPELLED - A powerful motor rotates the roller to deliver self-propelled motion – gliding through wet and dry mess with ease.
How does the dust bin work?
Dyson describes a two-stage linear separation system that captures 99.99% of particles down to 0.3 microns. It gives the bin’s capacity as 0.08 liters before compaction and says compressed dust and debris allow it to hold five times more than that capacity. Dyson notes that its compaction result was tested internally and that performance varies with debris type and usage. The five-times figure should not be read as a larger uncompressed bin capacity.
What runtime, screen, app, and accessories does Dyson list?
- Battery: Dyson says the swappable battery delivers up to 60 minutes of fade-free suction. Actual runtime varies with power mode, dust level, floor type, and attachments, according to the company.
- Display and app: Dyson describes an LCD that shows the selected mode and remaining runtime. Its MyDyson app connection provides maintenance and battery information; the company calls PencilVac its first connected cordless vacuum.
- Included charging and tools: The announcement lists a magnetic charging dock, a rotating combi-crevice tool, and a conical hair screw tool.
Although Dyson says the battery is swappable, the announcement does not establish the availability or compatibility of separately sold replacement batteries or tools. Check for an exact-model compatibility listing before buying parts.

When can you get the Dyson PencilVac, and how much will it cost?
Dyson’s announcement is dated May 21, 2025, but the cited material does not provide a definitive sale date, current price, or market-by-market stock status. Dyson’s September 2025 Berlin announcement also discusses the PencilVac, without establishing universal availability. Its 2026 Unveiled page says some products featured there remain in development, but does not identify the PencilVac as one of them.
That means the headline’s promised wait cannot be quantified from these announcements. For a reliable answer, look for a current Dyson product page or retailer listing in your country that names the PencilVac and confirms both price and stock; do not assume an event appearance or an availability widget proves a launch date for every market.
