The Dyson Hot+Cool Jet Focus AM09 combines a fan heater with fan-only airflow in one compact appliance. It can provide supplemental heat and move air, but it does not refrigerate or air-condition a room. Whether it makes sense depends on whether you value those two functions in one unit enough to accept remote-dependent controls, placement precautions and the price available in your market.
What the AM09 does—and what “cooling” means
Dyson describes the AM09 as a Hot+Cool Jet Focus fan heater. In Jet Focus mode it directs a focused stream of air; Diffused mode spreads airflow for room heating. Fan-only operation moves room air, but it does not lower the air temperature through refrigeration. If you need air conditioning, this is the wrong type of appliance.

Dyson describes the product as providing “comfortable heating and cooling all year round.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independently demonstrated result. The distinction matters: the AM09 offers heat and airflow, not a heater plus an air conditioner. See Dyson’s US product listing for the AM09 for its current description, price and availability.
Documented specifications and controls
Dyson lists maximum airflow of 49 gallons per second and says its cited heating-performance figures were tested in a 35 m³ room. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements, and the stated test-room volume should not be treated as a guarantee of performance in every room. An official EU product information sheet gives a rated heat output of 2.0 kW. Dyson’s US operating manual and EU product information sheet provide product and safety documentation.

Is the AM09 worth the price?
Dyson’s US listing showed $499.99 and “Currently out of stock” when accessed; price and stock are volatile, so check the listing before deciding. That snapshot does not establish what the AM09 costs or whether it is available in other markets. Check the current Dyson US listing.
The value case is strongest if you specifically want one appliance for supplemental heat and fan airflow, and will use both functions. It is weaker if your priority is inexpensive heating, if you need actual air conditioning, or if you do not want essential features tied to a remote. The available documentation does not establish independent comparative performance, room-heating speed, noise, energy savings or comfort. Compare current local pricing, rated output, warranty and repair support, model-specific parts, and the dimensions and placement instructions for the exact unit you are considering.

Remote dependence and replacement parts
The remote is needed for several core functions. Without it, the manual says the on-unit controls can switch the AM09 on or off and adjust the target temperature, but cannot control airflow, select Jet Focus or Diffused mode, operate oscillation or set the sleep timer. The remote uses a CR2032 coin-cell battery; follow safe coin-cell handling guidance and keep batteries away from children.
Dyson’s US support page lists replacement remote and base parts, but stock can vary. Confirm the part number and compatibility with your AM09 and market before ordering; the remote listing is identified as part 966538-04. Check Dyson’s replacement remote listing.

Safety and placement
Follow the manual supplied with the specific model and market. The US manual says to keep combustibles at least 0.9 m (3 ft) in front of the heater, use it only in dry locations, and avoid bathrooms and wet surfaces. Do not cover the unit or block its openings. The heater remains hot during use and briefly afterward, so allow it to cool before cleaning.
- Place the unit on a stable surface with the required clearance; keep combustible materials at least 0.9 m (3 ft) in front, as specified in Dyson’s US manual.
- Use the appliance only in a dry location. The UK manual advises plugging it directly into a wall socket rather than using an extension cable; follow the instructions for your market.
- Unplug before cleaning. Dyson’s UK manual says to wipe with a dry or damp cloth and not to use detergents or polishes.
- The US manual says the machine and remote contain magnets. Keep them away from credit cards and electronic storage media; people with pacemakers or defibrillators should heed the manual’s magnet warning and seek device-specific advice if needed.
Dyson’s US manual states: “For your safety this machine is fitted with automatic cut-out switches that operate if the machine tips over or overheats.” Automatic shutoff does not remove the need for safe placement or supervision appropriate to the setting. Read the US operating manual and UK operating manual for market-specific directions.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want fan airflow and supplemental heat from one desktop-format appliance and are comfortable relying on the remote for several functions.
- Look elsewhere if you need air conditioning, want independently verified performance comparisons, or need a heater whose key controls do not depend on a remote.
- Before buying, confirm the live price and stock in your region, the relevant safety manual, warranty and repair options, and compatibility of any replacement parts.
