For a cleaner cut in MDF, start with a fine-cut wood jigsaw blade and choose its tooth direction according to which face will be visible. Bosch lists its T308B as a 12 TPI Extra Clean for Wood blade; Festool lists its WOOD FINE CUT blade at 10 TPI for wooden materials. These are reasonable candidates, not proven MDF-specific winners: the manufacturers’ cited product information does not report comparative tests on MDF.
Which jigsaw blade gives the cleanest cut in MDF?
A fine-tooth blade intended for clean wood cuts is a sensible starting point when edge quality matters. Bosch’s T308B is listed as a 12 TPI Extra Clean for Wood blade, while Festool’s WOOD FINE CUT S 75/2.5/5 is listed at 10 TPI for wooden materials. Those descriptions and specifications come from the manufacturers; they do not establish which blade performs best in MDF.
Tooth count is only part of the choice. Check that the blade fits your saw, is long enough for the panel thickness, and has tooth direction suited to the face you want to keep cleaner. Make a test cut in an offcut and inspect both sides before cutting the finished piece.
Compare the documented blade options
| Blade | Manufacturer-stated details | Best use in this guide |
|---|---|---|
| Bosch T308B Extra Clean for Wood | Bosch lists 12 TPI, HCS construction, ground and taper-ground teeth, and a T-shank. | A fine-cut candidate to consider when the shank fits your saw. |
| Festool S 75/2.5/5 WOOD FINE CUT (204256) | Festool lists 10 TPI (2.5 mm pitch), wooden materials, and a maximum workpiece thickness of 30 mm. It is listed for specific Festool saw models. | A fine-cut option when your saw model and workpiece thickness are compatible. |
| DEWALT DW3750-5 | DEWALT lists 6 TPI and a T-shank, and describes deep gullets for faster material removal alongside woodworking applications. | A coarser wood-cutting contrast when removal rate is a priority, rather than the clean-finish lead. |
These are manufacturer specifications and descriptions, not results from hands-on or controlled MDF testing. A coarser blade’s stated design intent does not establish a particular cutting speed or finish on MDF.
#1 Best Overall
Choose tooth direction for the visible face
Standard, upward-pointing teeth
Standard jigsaw teeth point upward toward the saw. Bosch’s guidance says this arrangement tends to leave the cleaner cut on the underside of the workpiece. Use it when the bottom face is the one that matters most, then confirm the result with a scrap cut.
Reverse teeth
Reverse-tooth blades can leave the cleaner cut on the face against the saw’s footplate. Bosch notes that its reverse-tooth guidance requires downward pressure and, for the cited cordless models, orbital setting 0. That is model-specific advice: follow the manual for your exact saw and blade rather than transferring a setting to another tool.

- 9-Type Blade Selection: This jig saw blades set includes T101AO ×4, T101B ×4, and T101BR ×4 for clean wood cutting, T144D ×4, T244D ×3, and T111C ×3 for fast wood cutting, T118A ×3 and T118B ×3 for basic metal cutting, plus T127D ×2 for aluminum
- T-Shank Compatibility: Standard T-shank blades fit the vast majority of modern jigsaws, providing a secure grip and stable cutting performance. These jigsaw blades are easy to install and remove for quick blade changes
- High-Quality and Durable: Made from premium HCS (high-carbon steel) and HSS (high-speed steel) for wear resistance, flexibility, and long service life. The wood blades resist breaking and metal blades stay sharp longer
- Controlled, Clean Cuts: Precision-ground teeth, fine-tooth profiles and reverse-cut designs support smooth results and help reduce splintering. Narrow scroll blades allow tight curves with improved control on plywood and laminate
- Easy Identification and Storage: Every jigsaw blade’s shank is clearly printed with the blade type for quick selection. Blades are supplied in a sturdy storage case to keep them organized, protected, and ready for use
Check fit and thickness before buying
- Shank: Bosch and DEWALT identify their cited blades as T-shank designs, but that does not prove compatibility with every jigsaw. Check your saw’s manual and blade-clamp requirements.
- Saw model: Festool lists particular compatible saw models for its blade. Confirm your model against the manufacturer’s compatibility information.
- Blade length and workpiece: Match the blade to the thickness of the panel and the saw’s permitted blade range. Festool states a 30 mm maximum workpiece thickness for the cited S 75/2.5/5 blade.
- Cut priority: Fine-cut positioning is the more relevant starting point when finish matters; DEWALT describes its cited 6 TPI blade’s deeper gullets in connection with faster material removal.
Set up and make a test cut
- Secure the MDF panel so it cannot shift during cutting, and support the waste side appropriately.
- Fit a compatible blade with adequate length for the workpiece. Use the blade and settings allowed by the jigsaw manual.
- Set the blade direction for the show face. Standard teeth tend to favor the underside; reverse teeth may favor the footplate side and can require different handling or settings.
- Cut an offcut first. Bosch’s JS260 operating instructions advise: “Always make a test cut in a piece of scrap material.” Inspect both faces and the edge to decide whether the blade and setup meet your needs.
- Guide the saw without forcing it. Bosch advises enough forward pressure to keep the blade cutting steadily rather than forcing the tool. Stop if the blade or cut is not behaving as expected and check the setup and manual.
What the available specifications do—and do not—tell you
The TPI figures, blade construction details, compatibility information, and manufacturer descriptions help narrow candidates. They are not independent performance measurements. The cited manufacturer material does not provide a comparative MDF test establishing a best blade, a guaranteed edge quality, or a particular MDF cutting speed. Your saw, setup, blade condition, and material can affect the result, so a test cut is the practical check before committing to a finished panel.
