The best countertop washing machine depends on more than its label: check its actual footprint and weight, how much laundry it is rated to wash, whether you must move clothes between wash and spin tubs, and where its drain hose can empty. The Costway portable mini washer is the clearest documented option here, with a manufacturer-listed 5.5 lb capacity and separate wash and spin timers. The Laundry Alternative iWash is a retailer-listed automatic alternative, but confirm its specifications with the manufacturer before buying.

“Countertop” is a placement description, not a guarantee that a washer will fit or that a particular counter can safely support it. The figures below are listed specifications, not results from independent comparative testing.

What to check before choosing one
Measure the space and account for the machine’s weight
Measure the intended surface, including room for hoses and access to controls; compare those measurements with the washer’s external dimensions. The Costway page lists a 14 × 13.5 × 20-inch footprint but no weight. Walmart lists the iWash at 17.3 × 17.3 × 14.4 inches and 42 lb, figures that should be confirmed with the maker. Do not assume a countertop is suitable based on the word “compact”: verify that the surface can support the unit and that the setup leaves a practical route for filling and draining water.
Match the capacity to the loads you actually wash
The listed capacities are small: 5.5 lb for Costway and 4.4 lb for the iWash listing. Treat these as product specifications, not proof that either machine will handle a particular mix of garments or replace a full-size washer. Plan the water supply and drain route
Before purchase, decide how you will fill the washer and where the wastewater can go. In response to a Target customer’s question about having no floor drain, a brand expert says the drain hose should be hung during use and lowered to drain. That describes the hose arrangement for that product response; confirm the exact instructions for the model you buy and make sure a suitable sink, tub, or other drain is reachable.
Know how much of the cycle is manual
Costway lists separate wash and spin timers and a spin basket. Its product description calls the unit semi-automatic, so expect more hands-on operation than the iWash, which Walmart describes as automatic. The listing alone does not establish precisely how the iWash is filled, drained, or moves laundry through its cycle; ask the manufacturer for current operating instructions if those details determine your choice.

Which type makes sense for your space?
Choose the Costway when listed capacity and a documented setup matter most
Costway provides manufacturer-listed dimensions, wash capacity, timer lengths, and a drain hose, making it the more fully specified of these two examples. Its semi-automatic operation and small stated capacity make it a candidate for limited loads when you have a workable water and drain arrangement. The specifications do not establish performance with bulky items or that it can replace a full-size washer.
Consider the iWash only after confirming retailer-listed details
The Walmart listing gives the iWash a smaller stated capacity than Costway and describes it as automatic, while listing dimensions and a 42 lb weight. Because these details were not confirmed on the manufacturer’s own product page, verify them and the exact setup directly with The Laundry Alternative before relying on them to plan a purchase or installation.

A spin basket does not mean clothes come out dry
Costway lists a spin basket and a five-minute spin timer, but its product page does not establish that laundry will be dry-to-wear afterward. Treat spinning as a water-removal step, not as a clothes-drying function, and plan a separate way to dry laundry.
