For makers who want a full 15 × 15-inch platen, Cricut AutoPress 2 is a current automatic option. For production work, Geo Knight’s air-operated swing-away and shuttle presses offer larger formats and workflows designed to reduce idle time. Published specifications can help you match a press to a project, but they do not establish which machine lasts longest or provides the best customer service.

How to choose an automatic press
Match the platen to the design
Measure the transfer and the usable garment or substrate area, then allow room to position the work. A 15 × 15-inch platen suits many maker projects; production tasks may call for a 14 × 16-inch or 16 × 20-inch format. Platen dimensions alone do not tell you whether a particular garment or transfer will fit comfortably.
Choose the workflow, not just the word “automatic”
Geo Knight describes shuttle presses that alternate between two tables, reducing the time a machine sits idle while an operator loads or unloads the other table. Its range also includes automatic swing-away designs. A single-table automatic press may suit intermittent projects; a shuttle layout can make more sense when loading and unloading are a meaningful share of production time. Check pressure, temperature, and thickness
Compare whether pressure is adjustable, how it is applied, and whether the stated range suits your materials. AutoPress 2’s published range is 45–220 lb, with temperature adjustment from 212°F to 410°F and a stated capacity up to 1.8 inches thick. Use the transfer and material manufacturers’ recommended time, temperature, and pressure; validate settings on the actual garment, substrate, and transfer combination rather than assuming one preset works for every job. Account for installation and shop space
Before ordering production equipment, confirm voltage and current, air supply, footprint, weight, access for loading, and required clearances with the exact model’s documentation. The DC16AP, for example, requires an air compressor and weighs 135 lb according to its product page. Geo Knight DC16AP.

Read warranty terms by component
A warranty for the heat platen may differ from coverage for the frame, controller, or other parts. Compare the written terms for the exact model, including exclusions, region, who handles claims, and when coverage begins. A stated warranty describes the manufacturer’s coverage; it is not evidence of comparative machine longevity or service quality.
