Samsung top-load washers do not have a dedicated general reset button. For a minor control glitch, unplug the washer—or switch off its circuit breaker—for 1–5 minutes, then restore power. If an error returns, troubleshoot the specific code instead of repeatedly resetting it: clearing the display may erase useful error history without fixing the cause.
Power-cycle the washer for a temporary glitch
Samsung describes a power cycle as the closest alternative to a general reset. Its support article says, “There really isn’t a way to reset the washing machine,” and recommends disconnecting power as a first step for a minor glitch. See Samsung’s reset instructions.
- Unplug the washer. If you cannot safely reach the plug, switch off the circuit breaker supplying the washer.
- Wait 1–5 minutes.
- Reconnect power or turn the breaker back on, then check whether the washer responds normally.
This may clear a temporary control issue; it is not a repair for an unresolved mechanical, water-supply, or other fault.
Choose the right procedure for the problem
| Procedure | What it is for | Applies to | Preparation or key point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power cycle | A minor, temporary glitch | Samsung washers | Disconnect power for 1–5 minutes, then restore it. Samsung’s reset guidance. |
| Calibration | Load-weight sensing, which affects water use | Models with Calibration Mode | Empty the tub and follow the model-specific instructions. Samsung’s error-code guidance and calibration guidance. |
| Wi-Fi network reset | Refreshing saved network information | Wi-Fi-capable washers | Use the Smart Control and Temp sequence below; this is not a general fault reset. Samsung’s reset instructions. |
Run calibration only when load sensing is the issue
Calibration resets the washer’s load-weight detection; it does not reset all washer functions or fix a power or error-code problem. Samsung says calibration procedures and availability vary by model. If the manual does not describe Calibration Mode, the model does not have it. Check the model code on your washer and consult its manual before trying a button sequence. Calibration may be relevant after installation or adjustment, or if load sensing appears inaccurate. Samsung’s calibration instructions also cover model-specific setup.

- Make sure the tub is empty.
- Press Power.
- Press and hold Temp and Delay End together for 3 seconds.
- Hold Start/Pause to start calibration. The tub moves for about two minutes, and the display shows “0” when it is finished.
Samsung lists this sequence for the WA49B5205A* family in its calibration instructions.
Other Samsung models may use a different entry sequence, including a procedure that starts with the washer off while buttons are held and Power is pressed. Do not assume either example applies to your washer; use the manual for its exact model.
Reset Wi-Fi settings separately
For a Wi-Fi-capable washer, Samsung’s network-reset sequence is:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- Hold Temp until “OK” appears, about 7 seconds.
- Turn the washer off.
This refreshes network information; it does not reset the washer’s general operation or diagnose an appliance fault. Follow Samsung’s Wi-Fi reset instructions and check that your model supports Wi-Fi.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If an error code returns after resetting
A power cycle can clear an error display or stored history without resolving the condition that triggered it. For example, Samsung notes that a 4E/4C water-fill error can return if a hot-water connection or supply problem remains. Look up the displayed code and address its cause using Samsung’s error-code guidance. Avoid repeatedly clearing a recurring code, because the history can help diagnose the problem. If the issue continues after the relevant checks, use Samsung’s troubleshooting or repair-request route.
Calibration codes such as Cb/C6 are different: Samsung identifies them with calibration mode, which requires an empty tub. They are not ordinary fault codes to clear with a general reset; consult the manual and Samsung’s code guidance.
