If your Samsung washer will not spin, check drainage and load balance first: a washer that cannot drain may not reach the spin stage, while an uneven load can make it pause, redistribute clothes or reduce spin speed. The next step depends on whether it does not spin at all, spins poorly, or stops mid-cycle.
First identify what “not spinning” means
Note what happens and whether water remains in the drum. Samsung treats a washer that never begins spinning differently from one that spins slowly, stops partway through a cycle or leaves clothes wet. A displayed code can help narrow the cause, but its meaning depends on the washer model and region.
- Does not spin at all: Check that the door is fully closed, the selected cycle allows the intended spin behavior, and the washer can drain.
- Spins slowly, stops, or leaves clothes wet: Check for an unbalanced load, an unsuitable cycle or a drainage problem.
- Water remains in the drum: Investigate drainage before suspecting the spin mechanism.
Check the load and cycle
An unbalanced load can keep the washer from reaching its expected spin. A single bulky item or tangled laundry may shift to one side. The machine may rotate slowly in both directions as it tries to redistribute clothes, extend the cycle or reduce the final spin speed. Samsung UK describes this behavior in its guidance for a washer that does not spin as expected.
- Pause the cycle and untangle and distribute the laundry evenly around the drum.
- Remove excess items if the load is too large. Avoid washing one bulky item by itself; follow your model’s manual for how to balance unusual or very small loads.
- Choose a cycle suitable for the fabric and load. Some cycle presets limit which spin speeds you can select.
- Retry the cycle. If the problem persists, Samsung suggests trying a spin cycle with an empty drum to help determine whether the load caused the issue.
If an empty spin test also fails, a load imbalance is less likely to explain the problem. Use the remaining checks below before arranging service.

Remove the plastic cover of the pump filter, then remove the 2 screws at the back. Remove the hose from the drain pump assembly and pull it out from the bottom of the washer (be careful not to cut the wire). Easy to install ,just remember which connector plugs in to which terminal
Rule out a drainage problem
A washer may not spin if it cannot drain properly. Check whether water is left in the drum and whether the display shows a drainage code. Samsung UK identifies 5C and 5E as drainage-malfunction codes; its troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the drain hose and debris filter.
Inspect the drain hose
Look for a kink, bend, blockage or damage, and check that the hose is installed as described in the washer’s manual. Installation measurements vary by model and region, so do not rely on a generic hose height or insertion depth. Samsung’s US drain-hose guidance gives installation instructions for applicable US models.

Clean the pump filter only if your model has one
Some front-load Samsung washers have a debris or pump filter; this check does not apply to every washer and should not be assumed for top-load models. If your manual identifies a filter, follow its instructions to drain retained water before opening it. On models with a small emergency drain hose, use it to release water into a shallow container, with towels ready for spills. Samsung’s filter-cleaning instructions recommend a soft-bristle brush to clean the filter and impeller area.
Read error codes in the context of your model
Codes are clues, not universal diagnoses. Samsung UK associates 5C/5E with drainage and Ub/UE with an unbalanced load in its general washer troubleshooting guidance. Samsung’s US code reference says Ur means “Unbalanced Load Retry” on applicable models; it also notes that dc can indicate an unbalanced load on some models and a door error on others. Check the code in your own washer’s manual or model-specific support page rather than applying a code meaning from another region or model.

Follow a safe troubleshooting order
- Write down the exact symptom and any displayed code, then check the code in the model’s manual.
- Confirm the door is fully closed and the selected cycle permits the spin behavior you expect.
- Pause and redistribute an uneven load; adjust the load size as appropriate for your model and the items being washed.
- If water remains, check the drain hose and, only on models equipped with one, the pump filter. Follow the manual’s water-draining procedure before opening a filter.
- Retry an appropriate cycle. If the washer still will not spin, arrange service rather than guessing at replacement parts.
When to contact Samsung or a technician
Contact Samsung support or a qualified appliance technician if the washer still does not spin after the load and drainage checks, an empty spin test fails, or a persistent code points to a door or motor-related problem. A continuing mechanical symptom also needs diagnosis. Do not replace a motor, pump, belt or control board based only on a symptom or a code: the correct part and repair depend on the exact model and confirmed fault. Samsung’s US no-spin troubleshooting page advises service for persistent issues, including possible motor trouble.
