Roomba Max 875 Review: What iRobot’s Newest Vacuum-and-Mop Can—and Can’t—Do Hands-Free

The Roomba Max 875 is iRobot’s newest flagship combo robot, with an automated roller-mop dock and ambitious carpet-cleaning claims. Here’s what its announced features establish—and what remains unverified.

The Roomba Max 875 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock is iRobot’s newest flagship, announced September 2, 2026, with a $1,199 MSRP. Its pitch is unusually ambitious: seal against carpet for vacuuming, scrub hard floors with a heated, self-cleaning roller, and let the dock wash, dry and refill parts of the system. Those are manufacturer specifications and claims—not independently verified cleaning results. The Max 875 looks most compelling for homes that want one robot to handle mixed flooring and frequent mopping with less routine intervention; the available evidence does not establish how well it cleans in real homes or how reliable it will be over time.

What is the Roomba Max 875?

Announced by iRobot on September 2, 2026, the Roomba Max 875 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock is the company’s newest flagship and its most advanced Roomba to date, according to iRobot. Its $1,199 MSRP reflects a system built around an automated wash dock, rather than a vacuum-only robot. The announcement describes features and specifications but does not provide independent laboratory results, hands-on findings, battery endurance measurements or long-term reliability data.

The model is designed to vacuum carpets and hard floors, then mop hard floors using a powered roller. That combination may suit a home with both surface types, but it is not proof that the robot can replace a conventional vacuum or mop in every room or for every kind of mess.

How does the Max 875 vacuum carpets?

iRobot’s SealForce system is intended to create a seal between the robot’s chassis and carpet fibers, directing more airflow through the carpet rather than letting it escape around the edges. iRobot specifies 20 L/s of airflow and 35,000 Pa of suction, and claims SealForce enables three times deeper carpet cleaning than carpet vacuuming without the system. These figures and the comparison are manufacturer claims; the announcement does not supply an independent test protocol or results with which to verify them.

iRobot Roomba Max 875 Robot Vacuum & Mop Combo, 40,000Pa Suction, SealForce + Tornado-Like Airflow, Heated Mist & Mop, Hot Wash/Heat Dry Roller Mop, Self-Emptying, AutoWash Dock, LiDAR Navigation
  • PRO-LEVEL CLEANING FOR HARD FLOORS AND CARPETS. From tough kitchen stains to everyday dirt and dust, our most advanced robot is designed for deep cleaning.
  • POWERFUL PICKUP FOR EVERYDAY HOUSEHOLD MESSES. Our proprietary combination of SealForce Technology , tornado-like airflow, and 5x more suction concentrates vacuuming power to pull dust, pet hair, and crumbs from deep within carpet fibers for our best pickup performance.
  • REMOVE TOUGH STAINS IN ONE CLEANING ROUTINE. Skip manual scrubbing. Ultrasonic ThermaMist 140°F softens dried spills while the PowerSpin Max Roller Mop cleans with 140°F hot water for 2x better stain removal* and noticeably spotless floors. *Compared to mopping without ThermaMist
  • THE INDUSTRY’S BIGGEST ROLLER FOR MORE SCRUBBING POWER WITH FEWER PASSES. The self-cleaning PowerSpin Max Roller Mop combines 140°F hot water, 300 RPM roller speed, and 18N of downward pressure to tackle tough messes efficiently, helping clean large areas faster in one pass.
  • BETTER COVERAGE ALONG EDGES AND CORNERS. Dust often collects where traditional cleaning misses. PerfectEdge extends the roller up to 45mm along walls and baseboards while the outward expanding Edge-Sweeping side brush reaches corners and around furniture to help clean wall-to-wall.

“With SealForce™, we’re able to seal the chassis against the carpet fibers, so the airflow, which has the greatest impact on pickup performance, has somewhere to go instead of escaping around the edges.”

Adam Pope, Vice President and Chief Engineer, iRobot

For a household deciding whether the Max can replace an existing carpet vacuum, the key unanswered questions are practical ones: performance on different pile heights, pickup of embedded debris and pet hair, and how the seal behaves as the robot crosses from hard flooring onto carpet. The published specifications alone do not settle those questions.

How does its roller mop work?

The Max 875 uses Ultrasonic ThermaMist to apply heated mist continuously, which iRobot says helps loosen dried-on spills. Its PowerSpin Max roller mop rotates at 300 RPM, applies 18 N of downward pressure and continuously self-cleans while the robot works. iRobot claims the roller delivers 3.75 times deeper scrubbing; that multiplier is not an independently verified result in the announcement.

At walls and baseboards, PerfectEdge can extend the roller up to 45 mm. An outward-expanding side brush is intended to reach into corners. The announcement gives those reach specifications but does not quantify how much dirt or residue the edge features remove in testing.

Will it keep a wet mop off carpets?

iRobot says its AI-powered DriLift system raises the mop and lowers a protective shield when the robot detects carpet. This is meant to reduce the chance of a wet roller contacting carpet while the robot moves between floor types. The stated feature is not a guarantee for every carpet, transition or detection condition; iRobot’s announcement does not publish independent tests of carpet detection or moisture protection.

  • DEEP CLEANS DRIED-ON MESSES WITH HEATED SPOT MOPPING. Targets dried-on spills and tough stains using HEATED SPOT MOPPING, 200 RPM SCRUBBING, and steady pressure, restoring cleaner floors in kitchens, entryways, and pet areas.

What does the AutoWash dock automate?

The dock washes the roller with 176°F water, dries it with 131°F heated air and dispenses iRobot StayClean concentrate. It also empties collected debris into a carbon AllergenLock bag, which iRobot says can hold up to 90 days of debris before it needs attention. The 90-day figure is an “up to” manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee for every home; the announcement does not establish a replacement interval for the cleaning solution or roller.

This automation reduces some recurring chores, but it does not mean the system requires no maintenance. The dock still has a debris bag and cleaning supplies, and the available product information does not specify all routine cleaning tasks, consumable costs or service intervals.

How does it navigate, and what can the app control?

ClearView Pro Dual-Line LiDAR works alongside PrecisionVision AI, which iRobot says can recognize and avoid more than 300 common household objects. The Roomba Home App supports schedules, room targeting, pet-area priorities and voice commands. The announced object count is iRobot’s figure; it does not mean the robot will identify or avoid every obstacle in every lighting or floor condition.

The $300 MSRP difference buys a more extensively specified dock and mopping system on the Max 875, plus its stated obstacle-avoidance and edge-cleaning features. Whether those additions justify the difference depends on how valuable those features are in a particular home; the published information does not establish a cleaning-performance advantage in independent testing.

Roomba Duo is different: iRobot announced it on September 4, 2026, as an IFA prototype pairing a main vacuum-and-steam-mop robot with a companion unit. That announcement does not establish retail availability, so Duo should be treated as future concept technology rather than an alternative shoppers can currently buy.

Is the Roomba Max 875 worth its $1,199 MSRP?

The Max 875 is a plausible premium choice for someone who wants a single robot to vacuum mixed flooring, mop hard floors and automate several dock chores—and who values the added features over the Plus 678’s lower $899 MSRP. Its most distinctive promises are the carpet-sealing vacuum design, heated-mist roller scrubbing, carpet-triggered mop protection and hot-water roller washing with heated-air drying.

The case for paying the premium is less certain for buyers who need proof of real-world pickup, mopping quality, runtime or long-term reliability before committing. iRobot’s announcement provides detailed specifications and company performance claims, not independent comparative results. There is not enough established evidence to call the Max 875 a proven upgrade in cleaning outcomes; its value rests on the features and automation it promises, weighed against that uncertainty.
