A typical 43-inch TV is about 38 inches (96–98 cm) wide and 22 inches (56–57 cm) high without its stand. With the stand attached, plan on roughly 24–25 inches (61–64 cm) of height and 7–11 inches (18–28 cm) of depth. The 43-inch label refers to the screen’s diagonal—not its width.
A standard 16:9 screen itself measures approximately 37.5 × 21.1 inches (95.2 × 53.5 cm). Use those figures for an initial planning estimate, but check the exact model’s specification sheet before buying a cabinet, wall mount or delivery service.

These are planning ranges, not a universal specification. Bezel width, rear housing, speaker placement, feet and model year all change the outside dimensions.
What does “43 inches” mean?
Television size is measured diagonally from one corner of the display to the opposite corner. It does not describe the television’s width or its outer casing. Under the normal modern 16:9 format, a 43-inch diagonal produces a screen about 37.48 inches wide and 21.08 inches high.

Some products sold as “43-inch class” models list an actual measured diagonal of 42.5 inches. At 42.5 inches, the calculated 16:9 picture area is about 37.04 × 20.84 inches (94.1 × 52.9 cm). How the screen dimensions are calculated
For a 16:9 display, the diagonal is the hypotenuse of a rectangle. The calculations are:

This describes only the active picture area. It excludes the bezel, frame, bottom speaker section, rear casing, feet, cables and packaging.
Typical exterior dimensions
Without the stand
For furniture or wall planning, a useful estimate is roughly 38 inches wide, 22 inches high and 2.5–3 inches deep. Manufacturer examples show the expected variation:

Stands commonly add 2–3 inches of height and several inches of depth:
- Sony K-43S30: 38 W × 24.88 H × 10.5 D inches.
- Sony KD-43X77L: 38.38 W × 25 H × 10.5 D inches.
- Samsung QN43Q6DT: 37.9 W × 24.8 H × 7.7 D inches.
- Hisense 43H5500G: 37.6 W × 23.9 H × 7.2 D inches.
These figures retain the manufacturers’ width × height × depth order. Confirm the order used by the specific listing you are reading.

Why two 43-inch TVs can have different dimensions
- One model may have a 42.5-inch measured diagonal while another is listed differently.
- Bezels and bottom speaker sections vary.
- Rear housings differ in thickness and shape.
- Feet may sit near the edges or use a central pedestal.
- Stand geometry changes both depth and usable cabinet width.
- LCD, QLED, OLED and lifestyle designs use different chassis layouts.
- Regional versions and model generations can have separate specifications.
Will a 43-inch TV fit on a cabinet?
Measure the cabinet’s usable top, not its advertised outside size. Check each item in this order:
- Compare the cabinet’s usable width with the TV’s listed width.
- Measure the distance between the feet; a 40-inch cabinet can be wide enough while still being too narrow for edge-mounted feet.
- Compare usable cabinet depth with the complete stand depth.
- Confirm the surface supports the television’s weight and that no foot overhangs.
- Measure the TV’s height with the stand, especially on a dresser or low console.
- Reserve space for a soundbar, remote sensor and ventilation.
- Allow room behind the set for power, HDMI, Ethernet, optical and antenna plugs.
A nominal 40-inch-wide stand will often accommodate a typical 43-inch television, but only the exact width, foot spacing and depth can confirm the fit.

Wall-mounting a 43-inch TV
The wall needs enough area for the television’s actual outer width and height, plus cable routing and any equipment below it. The screen’s 2.3–3.4-inch chassis depth is not the finished wall-to-screen depth; the bracket and cable bend radius add projection.
Check the mounting specification
- Verify the model’s VESA hole pattern, mount weight rating and required screw size and length.
- The two Sony examples above use a 200 × 200 mm VESA pattern, but that pattern must not be assumed for another model.
- Locate studs or use an appropriate masonry fixing system.
- Check that the wall plate and arms do not extend beyond the television or conflict with trim.
- Plan the outlet and cable path before fixing the bracket.
- Leave clearance for a soundbar, shelves, doors and nearby switches.
Box dimensions and transport
The carton is substantially larger than the unboxed television. Sony lists the K-43S30 package at 42.25 × 27.375 × 5.625 inches. Sony specifications
Use boxed dimensions when checking a car or SUV, doorway, stairwell, storage area or return route. A carton more than 42 inches wide may need to be carried at an angle, and narrow turns can be more restrictive than the doorway width.
43-inch screen compared with nearby sizes
Using the same 16:9 geometry, a 40-inch screen is slightly narrower and shorter than a 43-inch screen, while 50-inch and 55-inch screens are noticeably wider and taller. Those are screen-area comparisons only; exterior dimensions still depend on each model’s bezel, chassis and stand.
