P1 does not have one universal meaning on air conditioners. On Midea portable ACs covered by Midea’s U.S. support FAQ, it means the bottom tray is full. Other manufacturers use P1 for different protections or operating states, so check your unit’s exact model documentation before draining it or trying other fixes.
What P1 means depends on the air conditioner
The same characters can describe different conditions across brands, product lines, and models. P1 may indicate collected water, temperature or pressure protection, or a compressor test state. It is not enough by itself to diagnose a fault or determine what action is safe.

How to identify the right meaning for your unit
- Find the brand and exact model number. Check the rating label or nameplate and note the full model designation. For Midea portable units covered by its FAQ, the model number is on a silver nameplate on the back.
- Look up the code in that model’s manual or official support page. Check that the documentation applies to your product type and region. LG notes that its AC error codes differ by model, so a code list for another unit may not apply. LG support
- Follow only the documented action for that model. Do not drain a unit merely because another brand uses P1 to indicate a full tray.

For the Midea portable ACs covered by its U.S. FAQ, P1 means the bottom tray is full. Midea’s stated instruction is: “P1 – Bottom tray is full – Connect the drain hose and drain the collected water away. If protection code repeats, call for service.”

Before obtaining a drain hose, check the exact unit’s manual, hose connection, and whether a hose was supplied with the AC. This guidance applies to the covered Midea portable-unit case; it does not establish that a universal hose will fit or resolve P1 on another product.

If the code returns after you have followed the exact model’s documented steps, contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider. Midea advises calling for service if P1 repeats after draining on the portable units covered by its FAQ. Xiaomi recommends after-sales inspection if its Mijia troubleshooting does not resolve the issue. For other units, use the service instructions for that model rather than applying another brand’s remedy.
