The Makita LS1019L and Bosch CM10GD are two examples with published 12-inch cuts at 90 degrees, but they differ in slide design, weight, operating ranges and dust-collection claims. This comparison uses manufacturer specifications and a clearly dated 2018 independent test; it is not a current hands-on ranking.
What “10-inch sliding” tells you—and what it doesn’t
“10-inch” describes the blade diameter. It does not define a universal maximum cut width or height. Capacity depends on the saw’s design and the workpiece’s orientation: a board laid flat, baseboard stood against the fence and crown molding nested against the fence are different cuts. Check the manufacturer’s capacity chart for the exact angle and position you intend to use.
Two current manufacturer listings show why the label alone is not enough. Makita lists the LS1019L for a 12-inch crosscut at 90 degrees, up to 6-5/8-inch nested crown and 5-1/4-inch vertical baseboard. Bosch lists the CM10GD for a 12-inch horizontal cut, 6-inch nested crown with a 45-degree spring and 5-1/2-inch vertical baseboard. Those are different capacity categories, so compare like with like. Makita LS1019L specifications; Bosch CM10GD specifications.
Two documented 10-inch examples compared
| Specification | Makita LS1019L | Bosch CM10GD |
|---|---|---|
| Blade and motor | 10-inch blade; 3,200 no-load RPM (Makita USA listing) | 10-inch blade; 15-amp motor; 5,000 no-load RPM (Bosch USA listing) |

| Crown and baseboard | Up to 6-5/8-inch nested crown; 5-1/4-inch vertical baseboard | 6-inch nested crown at 45-degree spring; 5-1/2-inch vertical baseboard |
| Bevel and miter ranges | Makita Canada lists 48 degrees left/right bevel and 60 degrees left/right miter; verify regional SKU details | 47 degrees left/right bevel; 52 degrees left and 60 degrees right miter |
| Slide design | Two-steel-rail sliding system; Makita says it can operate flush against a wall | Articulated Axial-Glide arms instead of conventional sliding rails; Bosch says it uses up to 10 inches less front-to-back workspace than slide saws with similar capacities |
| Weight | 57.9 pounds (Makita USA listing) | 64 pounds (Bosch USA listing) |
| Dust and blade details | Makita describes dual dust-collection ports. Makita Canada lists a 5/8-inch arbor and a separate 80-tooth blade accessory. | Bosch claims 90% dust collection when optimized for cutting 2× material with a vacuum; its listing includes a 10-inch 60-tooth carbide-tipped blade. |
These are specifications from the respective manufacturers’ undated listings accessed in 2026, not results from a direct comparison test. Makita’s operating-range and arbor details above come from its Canadian listing, while several capacity, speed and weight figures come from its U.S. listing; check the exact local SKU before assuming every regional package is identical. Choose the slide mechanism for your shop layout
Rear rails: account for travel space
Conventional sliding saws need room for their rails to move. Measure the bench position with the saw’s full travel in mind, including any wall behind it. Makita describes the LS1019L’s two-steel-rail arrangement as allowing flush-to-wall operation, which may help where rear clearance is tight.
Articulated arms: less rear workspace, not less weight
Bosch’s CM10GD uses articulated Axial-Glide arms. Bosch says the design takes up to 10 inches less front-to-back workspace than slide saws with similar capacities; treat that as the manufacturer’s comparison, not an independent footprint measurement. Check the actual saw and stand arrangement against your bench. The CM10GD still weighs 64 pounds, so compact rear clearance does not make it an easy one-person carry.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Compact and Lightweight: Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces. The 1/4" impact driver has a length of 5.55 in. and weighs just 2.8 lbs, while the 1/2" drill/driver measures only 7.5 in. and weighs 3.6 lbs
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and electric drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
- Power drill cordless with 1/2" single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides tight bit gripping strength, making bit changes faster and more secure
Match capacity to your actual cuts
List the widest and tallest stock you expect to cut, then check each saw’s chart for those dimensions at the required angle. A saw’s maximum 90-degree crosscut does not promise the same width at a miter or bevel. For trim, compare nested crown and vertical baseboard capacities separately, and confirm the required spring angle and fence position.
- If most work is framing stock and ordinary trim within the listed capacities, a 10-inch saw may cover the tasks without needing a larger blade.
- If you regularly cut stock beyond the 10-inch saw’s capacity chart, compare an appropriate 12-inch-class saw rather than assuming a sliding 10-inch model can handle it.
- For a clearly identified adjacent alternative, DEWALT lists the DWS779 as a 12-inch, double-bevel sliding compound miter saw; it is not a like-for-like 10-inch comparison. DEWALT DWS779 listing.
Bevel, miter and blade details to verify
Range matters when a job requires compound cuts or miters in both directions. Bosch lists 47-degree left/right bevel, 52-degree left and 60-degree right miter. Makita Canada lists 48-degree left/right bevel and 60-degree left/right miter for its LS1019L listing. These are operating-range specifications; they do not establish which saw is more accurate or easier to adjust.

Before buying a replacement or specialty blade, confirm diameter, arbor size, tooth count, kerf and suitability for the material and cut. Makita Canada specifies a 10-inch blade with a 5/8-inch arbor for its listing and identifies an 80-tooth accessory; Bosch lists an included 10-inch 60-tooth carbide-tipped blade. Do not infer that a blade fits solely because it is 10 inches.
Dust collection and mobility are setup questions
Port design and a dust-collection percentage do not guarantee a clean shop under every condition. Makita describes dual dust ports; Bosch’s 90% collection claim is qualified for cutting 2× material with a vacuum. Material, cut pattern, vacuum and connection all affect what is captured, so distinguish vacuum-assisted use from relying on a bag.

For mobility, compare the saw’s listed weight with the stand, accessories and transport routine. The Makita listing gives 57.9 pounds and Bosch gives 64 pounds. If you move the saw frequently, look at stand compatibility, handles and how it will be loaded and secured—not only the rail or glide mechanism. Makita Canada lists stands and workstations among related items; verify mounting pattern and load capacity for any stand you consider.

Check accessible calibration and positive stops, then verify square and make test cuts on the actual saw before precision work. In its September 2018 comparison of several 10-inch dual-bevel sliding compound miter saws, JLC describes a four-cut accuracy method, checks of opposing miter and bevel cuts, sliding miters in 8-inch MDF and dust captured after repeated cuts across several materials. For its tested Makita LS1019L sample, JLC measured a chop-cut result of 0 inch over 4 inches, but a slide-cut result of 1/32 inch over 12 inches. The article also observed shipping-related fence misalignment on that sample. These are historical, sample- and method-specific findings—not current-production guarantees or known defects across all units. JLC’s September 2018 test.

Which kind of buyer should choose each saw?
Consider the Makita LS1019L if
- The listed 12-inch 90-degree crosscut, 6-5/8-inch nested crown or 5-1/4-inch vertical baseboard capacity fits your work.
- A rail-forward design that Makita says can work flush to a wall suits your layout.
- You have checked the local SKU, especially if relying on the Canadian listing’s arbor and angle-range details.
Consider the Bosch CM10GD if
- The listed 12-inch horizontal capacity and crown/baseboard dimensions suit your stock.
- Rear workspace is limited and its articulated-arm arrangement fits your bench; verify the installed footprint.
- You can accommodate its listed 64-pound weight and intend to use a vacuum if relying on Bosch’s qualified dust-collection claim.
Step up to a 12-inch class when
- Your recurring stock dimensions exceed the 10-inch saw’s capacity chart at the angles and orientations you need.
- You have checked whether a larger saw’s footprint, weight and setup fit the shop and transport plan.
This is a focused comparison of two sourced 10-inch models, not a survey of every saw currently sold. Current local prices, stock, warranties and included accessories were not compared; confirm them against the exact model and retailer in your market.
