For a Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer, the manufacturer’s own DishDrawer tablets are the clearest model-specific option: Fisher & Paykel says they are designed for DishDrawer dishwashers and formulated for their load size. But detergent type and placement differ across models and generations. Check the user guide for your exact appliance before using a tablet or powder; do not assume that one DishDrawer’s instructions apply to another.
What detergent should I use in my Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer?
Fisher & Paykel lists its DishDrawer tablets as “Designed specifically for DishDrawer™ Dishwashers.” The company says their formulation is optimized for the DishDrawer load size and describes balanced surfactants, built-in glass protection and no added phosphates. These are the manufacturer’s product claims, not results from an independent comparison.
Use those tablets only if your model’s guide permits them, and follow its directions for placement. Some DishDrawer guides instead direct owners to use automatic-dishwasher powder in the detergent dispenser. If you have a conventional Fisher & Paykel dishwasher rather than a DishDrawer, follow that appliance’s own manual rather than assuming DishDrawer guidance applies.
Can I use dishwasher tablets in a Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer?
It depends on the model and where the tablet is placed. A DD60 GB/IE guide allows a tablet in the empty section of the cutlery basket, or at the bottom of the wash compartment if the basket cannot be used. That guide does not make tablet use universal: do not put a tablet in a dispenser unless the instructions for your exact model say to do so.

By contrast, an older GB/IE DishDrawer guide says to use powdered detergent recommended for domestic automatic dishwashers in the detergent dispenser, and specifically says not to put tablets in that dispenser. These examples show why the appliance’s exact model guide—not the brand name alone—should determine detergent format and placement. Find the guide for your model through Fisher & Paykel support.
Why the exact detergent placement matters
DishDrawer instructions can differ by generation. Follow the detergent section of the guide for your precise model, including both the permitted format and the stated placement. Do not transfer the DD60 cutlery-basket directions to an older model, or the older powder-only dispenser directions to a newer one, without checking its own manual.

Never substitute hand-washing liquid, soap, laundry detergent or disinfectant for automatic dishwasher detergent. An older Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer guide warns that these products are unsuitable and can damage the appliance. That warning is a clear reason to use only detergent intended for domestic automatic dishwashers and approved by the guide for your model.
When rinse aid may help
Rinse aid is worth considering if you see spots or mineral residue, or want to improve drying, especially where water is hard. Fisher & Paykel describes its US-listed Dishwasher Rinse-aid 159055 as formulated to remove hard-water minerals during the rinse cycle and prevent etching. This is the manufacturer’s product claim, not an independent test result.

Check whether your detergent tablet already contains rinse aid. The DD60 GB/IE guide notes that a tablet with built-in rinse aid may call for a reduced rinse-aid setting. Use the adjustment prescribed in your own manual rather than assuming every model uses the same setting.
How to choose between compatible detergents
Once your model guide establishes which detergent formats it accepts, compare compatible options on practical terms rather than assuming one formula cleans better:

- Format: tablet or powder, as permitted by your model’s instructions.
- Placement and dose: use the location and amount specified in the guide.
- Rinse aid: check whether it is included and whether the manual calls for a setting adjustment.
- Availability and cost per wash: compare products sold in your region; availability and pricing can vary.
