Choosing one means choosing a setup—not just a saw: check the rail, power platform, model capacity, accessories, and rail compatibility as a complete system.
What a track saw does
The saw rides on a guide rail placed on the workpiece. The rail guides the cut, which makes the tool useful for jobs such as breaking down sheet goods, cabinetry, and flooring. DEWALT and Festool describe these applications in their product catalogs: DEWALT track saws and Festool track saws.

A track saw is worth considering when you need controlled, straight cuts and want to guide the saw across the material rather than maneuver a large panel through a stationary saw. Whether a particular model suits the work depends on its stated capacity and limits; check the model documentation for the material and cut you intend to make.
What makes a usable track-saw system
Before comparing models, account for the parts that make the saw work for your projects. DEWALT, for example, lists tool-only saws, saw-and-track kits, rails, clamps, bags, and replacement friction strips as distinct catalog items.

- Saw: Confirm the model’s cutting capacity and functions, such as plunge or bevel capability, against the cuts you need.
- Guide rail: Choose a length that fits the workpieces and cutting layout. If longer cuts require joined rails, verify the joining method for that system.
- Power: Compare corded and cordless options. For cordless models, check whether the battery platform matches batteries you already own and what the kit includes.
- Accessories: Check whether the listing includes a rail, clamps, storage, blades, batteries, or other items you need. A tool-only listing and a kit are not equivalent setups.
- Dust collection and cut control: Check the model’s dust-extraction provisions, blade options, and splinter-guard details if these matter for the work.
How to compare models and kits
Compare the exact model listings rather than assuming that features or kit contents carry across a brand’s range. Manufacturer catalogs establish the product categories and described applications, but capacity, accessories, and specifications need to be confirmed on the particular model page.

Do not compare a tool-only saw with a complete kit as though they were the same purchase. Build a list of what you still need, then compare the total cost of a working setup.

Check rail compatibility before mixing systems
Rail compatibility depends on the specific saw and rail combination. Do not assume that rails from different brands—or even every rail within a product family—will fit or perform as intended. The DEWALT and Festool product pages do not provide a comprehensive cross-brand compatibility chart. Check the documentation for both the saw and rail, or confirm the combination with the manufacturer before buying.
Safety and model-specific features
Festool describes splinter guards as helping reduce edge tear-out and lists KickbackStop on selected models: the TS 60 KEB, TSV 60 KEB, and TSC 55 KEB. These are model-specific features and aids, not guarantees against injury. Follow the saw’s manual and safe work practices, and do not treat a protective feature as a substitute for them.
