For most Samsung SmartThings ovens and ranges, set the clock on the appliance’s control panel—not in the SmartThings app. The usual sequence is Clock → enter the time → START/SET. The exact steps depend on whether your oven has physical buttons, a smart dial, or a touchscreen.

These U.S.-oriented instructions cover the main Samsung control types. If your panel does not match, use the Samsung model-support page to find the manual for your exact oven.

  • Physical buttons: Look for Clock or a clock icon, a number pad or Up/Down controls, and START/SET.
  • Smart-dial range: The panel has a display, a Menu button represented by three horizontal lines, and a dial knob.
  • Touchscreen wall oven: Settings appear on a touchscreen, usually under Settings and Date & Time.

Before changing the time, wake the panel if it is asleep. Also check whether Control Lock, Sabbath mode, an active cooking cycle, or a self-clean cycle is preventing input.

Standard Samsung oven or range with physical buttons

For most models:

  1. Press Clock briefly.
  2. If prompted, press Clock again to choose AM or PM.
  3. Enter the current time with the number pad, or use the Up/Down or directional controls if your model does not have a number pad.
  4. Press START/SET or Clock to save.

Some models use 24-hour time and do not display an AM/PM prompt. If you enter the wrong value, use Clear where available and start again. Do not hold the Clock button unless your manual specifically tells you to: on some Samsung models, a long press opens secondary settings rather than the clock.

When the oven uses Up/Down controls

Some ranges, including members of the NX60*81**S* family, use a two-stage entry:

Clock → set hours with Up/Down → START/SET → set minutes with Up/Down → START/SET

Samsung documents this sequence in its NX60*81**S* support instructions.

When the oven uses a number pad

Some NX60*63**S* models use:

Clock → enter the current time → START/SET

Other families, including some NX60*675*S* and NX60*851* models, may show an AM/PM selection or label the button Clock/Setting. Their exact procedures are listed in Samsung’s NX60*63**S* instructions, NX60*675*S* instructions, and NX60*851* instructions.

Samsung smart-dial ranges

On a smart-dial model:

  1. Tap Menu—the three horizontal lines.
  2. Use the dial to select Set time.
  3. Turn the dial to enter the time.
  4. Push the dial knob to confirm.

If the display is asleep, turn or push the dial first. Samsung says some smart-dial panels enter Sleep mode after about two minutes of inactivity.

Change between 12-hour and 24-hour time

On smart-dial ranges, select Menu → Time format, choose 12hr or 24hr, and push the dial to save. In 12-hour format, make sure AM or PM is correct. In 24-hour format, 1:30 p.m. appears as 13:30.

Physical-button models may use a different format-setting procedure, or may not offer the same option. Check the model manual rather than assuming the smart-dial path applies.

Samsung touchscreen wall ovens

Set the time automatically

Compatible touchscreen wall ovens can use an internet connection to set the clock:

  1. Make sure the oven’s Wi-Fi is enabled.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Tap Date & Time.
  4. Turn the automatic date-and-time option On.

This automatic method requires a compatible touchscreen model, Wi-Fi, and an active internet connection. It is not a universal feature of every SmartThings-connected Samsung oven.

Set the time manually

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Date & Time.
  3. Turn automatic date and time Off.
  4. Set the time zone, date, and time manually.

If automatic time remains incorrect, check the time zone and network connection, then use the manual method if necessary. Samsung’s general guide covers these options in its clock-setting instructions.

Can SmartThings change the oven clock?

Usually, no—not as a universal SmartThings app function. SmartThings-connected ovens can support monitoring, error checks, oven-off commands, and selected remote controls, but available features vary by model. Samsung’s connected-oven features may also require Smart Control to be enabled.

Set the local clock from the oven panel first. On compatible touchscreen wall ovens, the oven itself may synchronize time over Wi-Fi; that does not mean the SmartThings app is the menu used to edit the clock. If SmartThings shows the oven as offline, you can generally still try the physical control panel. Troubleshoot the app connection separately by checking Wi-Fi, account, location, and device registration.

A weak Wi-Fi signal can impair app-operated features, but it does not by itself prove that the oven’s local clock is faulty. See Samsung’s SmartThings device-feature guidance for model-dependent limitations.

Why the clock may need resetting

Common reasons include:

  • Daylight-saving-time changes.
  • A power interruption or breaker reset.
  • Installation or relocation of the appliance.
  • An incorrect time zone after setup.
  • A clock that was never configured.
  • Automatic time being disabled on a touchscreen model.
  • Confusion after switching between 12-hour and 24-hour formats.

The clock is more than a decorative display. An accurate time supports timed functions such as delayed cooking and Sabbath mode. A wrong clock may not stop ordinary manual baking, but it can make scheduled cooking occur at the wrong time.

After an outage, reset the clock before relying on Delay Start, Cook Time, automatic shutoff sequences, Sabbath-related timing, or SmartThings automations that depend on a schedule. Not every model loses its time after every outage, so verify the display rather than assuming.

The oven clock is not the kitchen timer

The clock shows the time of day. The kitchen timer counts down a duration and sounds an alert when that duration ends. Setting a timer does not correct the oven’s clock and does not substitute for setting the time before using delayed cooking.

If the clock will not change

Symptom What to check
The controls do not respond Wake the display, check Control Lock, and check whether Sabbath mode is active.
The Clock button opens another menu Press it briefly. Some models use a long press for Demo mode, temperature adjustment, or other settings.
The entered time is wrong Check AM/PM or whether the display is using 24-hour format. Use Clear and re-enter the time if available.
The touchscreen time is wrong Check Wi-Fi, the time-zone setting, and whether automatic date and time is enabled. If needed, turn automatic time off and set the values manually.
SmartThings says the oven is offline Set the clock locally first. Then check Wi-Fi, account, location, and device registration for app functions.
The time keeps resetting Distinguish a one-time outage from a recurring power problem or possible appliance fault. Contact Samsung support or an authorized service provider if power is stable and the problem continues.
The display is blank Check Sleep mode, display timeout or brightness settings, Control Lock, the appliance power supply, and the circuit breaker.

Special modes and active programs

A lockout, Sabbath mode, active delay, timer, cooking cycle, or self-clean cycle can restrict clock changes on some models. Finish or safely cancel an active program before trying again. Never cut power to interrupt a self-clean cycle merely to change the time.

Sabbath mode can suppress beeps and ordinary display changes. Follow the model-specific instructions and any requirements relevant to how you use that mode; do not treat a quiet or apparently unresponsive panel as immediate evidence of hardware failure.

When to find the manual or request service

Use Samsung’s exact model documentation if your oven:

  • Has no Clock button.
  • Uses a touchscreen or dial.
  • Has separate controls for two ovens.
  • Labels the control Clock/Setting.
  • Uses a different sequence from the instructions above.
  • Will not accept input after you check Sleep mode, lockout, Sabbath mode, and active programs.

Samsung’s range support and wall-oven support pages provide model manuals, warranty information, registration, and repair options. If the time repeatedly resets while the appliance has stable power, the symptoms could involve a recurring electrical issue or appliance control fault; the model manual or Samsung service should determine the cause.

These instructions are based on U.S. Samsung guidance. Canadian, European, Dacor, and other regional models may use different labels, menus, time formats, or SmartThings features. Dacor appliances in the Samsung ecosystem may use terms such as Smart Control, iQ Control, or Set Time, so use the manual for the exact model.
