Yes. Blink lets you change the alert tone used by its mobile app, with separate settings for motion alerts and doorbell presses. On iPhone or iPad, use Blink app → Settings → Notifications → Alert Tones. On Android, use Blink app → Settings → Notifications → Configure Notifications → Notification Categories → Sound.
These settings change the sound on that particular phone or tablet. They do not change the sound from a wired doorbell chime, Blink Chime, the doorbell’s speaker, or an Alexa device.

What Blink notification sound can you change?
“Blink notification sound” can mean several different things:

- Phone notification: the sound played by the Blink app for motion or doorbell-press alerts.
- Doorbell speaker: the sound produced by the Blink Video Doorbell itself when its button is pressed.
- Indoor chime: a wired mechanical or digital chime, Blink Chime, a compatible Mini camera, or an Alexa device.
The instructions below change only the Blink app notification on your mobile device. Blink’s documented controls let you select from the tones presented by the app or phone. They do not document uploading an arbitrary MP3, WAV, or other audio file directly into Blink.

How to change Blink notification sound on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Blink app.
- Tap Settings in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Alert Tones.
- At the top of the screen, choose Motion or Doorbell Press.
- Tap a tone to preview it, then tap Save.
Motion and doorbell presses have separate controls, so you can use one available sound for security-camera motion and another for someone pressing the doorbell.
If the sound still does not play, check that iOS allows Blink notifications, the phone is not muted, notification volume is high enough, and Focus or Do Not Disturb is not suppressing the alert. Bluetooth headphones, a smartwatch, or a connected vehicle can also redirect notification audio.

- Tap Sound. On some Android phones, the control is under Advanced → Sound.
- Preview and select a tone, then return to the previous screen to save or confirm.
Android menus vary between Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus, and other devices, as well as between Android versions. If you see separate categories for different Blink events, configure the relevant category rather than changing only one general notification setting.
Android notification categories can independently control sound, vibration, importance, and whether notifications are silent. If the category is set to Silent or has low importance, selecting a tone may not make the alert audible until the category is changed to an audible setting.
Can you use your own MP3 or custom sound?
Blink documents choosing a tone from the sounds available in the Blink app or, on Android, through the phone’s notification-category selector. Blink’s current support instructions do not provide a supported method for uploading an arbitrary audio file directly into the Blink app.
Some Android phones may expose locally stored sounds in their system sound picker. That is an Android-device capability, not a custom-file feature confirmed for every Blink installation or handset. Do not assume that an MP3 will be available on every Android phone.
On iPhone and iPad, avoid relying on unsupported workarounds such as editing app files, renaming audio files, or using automation shortcuts to replace Blink’s internal tones. Such methods are not part of Blink’s documented setup and may stop working after an app or iOS update.
Can motion alerts and doorbell presses use different sounds?
Yes, for the supported event types. iOS provides separate Motion and Doorbell Press selections under Alert Tones. Android uses notification categories, which may also let you configure the relevant events separately.

- Our second-generation Video Doorbell and fourth-generation Outdoor 4 cameras offer up to two years of battery life and improved security features for more peace of mind, no matter where you are.
- Last longer with two-year battery life — Experience up to two years of smart security coverage on both devices with included AA Energizer lithium batteries and a Blink Sync Module (included with Outdoor 4).

- See more at your door with Blink Video Doorbell — Greet guests and watch packages get delivered, day and night, with head-to-toe HD view and infrared night vision. Use two-way talk to hear and speak through the Blink app.
- Enhanced motion detection with Outdoor 4 — With Outdoor 4, enjoy a wider field of view and be alerted to motion faster with dual-zone, enhanced motion detection.
There is an important limitation: Blink’s documented behavior applies the alert-tone setting to the Blink cameras and doorbells on that account for that mobile device. It does not document a separate phone tone for every individual camera.
- Different sounds for motion and doorbell events: supported through the documented controls.
- A different sound for each camera: not documented as supported.
- Different sounds on different phones: possible because the setting is stored locally on each mobile device.
For example, changing the tone on your phone does not automatically change the tone on another household member’s phone or tablet. Each device must be configured separately.

Work through these checks in order.
1. Test the correct event type
If you changed the Motion tone but are testing by pressing the doorbell, you may still hear the old doorbell-press tone. Check both event selections and test the one you changed.
2. Check system notification permissions
- Confirm that Blink notifications are enabled in the phone’s operating-system settings.
- On Android, make sure the relevant Blink notification category is not silent.
- Turn up notification volume and check the mute switch or sound mode.
- Disable or review Focus, Do Not Disturb, bedtime, driving, and similar modes.
- Check whether Bluetooth headphones, watches, vehicles, or other connected devices are receiving the sound.
Blink’s notification troubleshooting guidance covers device permissions, sound settings, Do Not Disturb, and notification interference.
3. Confirm that motion alerts are able to trigger
For motion notifications, Blink says the system must be armed and Motion Detection must be enabled for the relevant camera or doorbell. If those conditions are not met, changing the tone will not produce a test alert. See the Blink Video Doorbell FAQ for the applicable motion-notification requirements.
4. Check the app, phone, and network
- Verify that the phone has an internet connection.
- Check the camera or doorbell’s Wi-Fi connection.
- Update the Blink app if an update is available.
- Restart the phone.
- If necessary, delete and reinstall the Blink app, then sign in again.
Blink states that deleting the mobile app does not affect onboarded cameras and systems, although you will need to sign in again.
5. Review Android utility apps
Blink warns that some antivirus, file-optimizer, ringtone, and battery-saving apps can interfere with motion-alert notifications. Temporarily exempt Blink from those controls or disable the suspected restriction for testing before removing any utility app.
Does changing the phone tone change the Blink Chime or doorbell sound?
No. The mobile-app notification tone is separate from the sound produced by a physical chime or the doorbell’s own speaker.
For a compatible wired installation, Blink provides separate controls in the app. The documented paths are:

Available controls depend on the doorbell model and whether it is connected to supported wiring. Blink’s documentation for applicable models identifies supported mechanical or digital chime systems with electrical requirements including 8–24 VAC, 50–60 Hz, and 40 VA maximum. Confirm compatibility before changing wiring or power settings; these controls are not the same as choosing a phone alert tone.

How to make Blink audible throughout the home
If the real problem is that you cannot hear your phone from another room, changing the app tone may not be enough. Consider one of these separate alert options.
Blink Chime
Blink Chime is a plug-in indoor accessory for compatible Blink doorbells. After setup, open the Blink app and go to Chime → Doorbell and Camera Alerts. You can enable doorbell alerts, motion alerts, or both for linked devices.
Blink says compatible Chime use does not require a Blink subscription plan. It is intended for indoor use, requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi rather than 5 GHz, and Blink states that multiple Chimes can be used around a home. It uses its own chime controls, so changing the phone’s Blink tone does not change the Chime sound. See the Blink Chime FAQ for compatibility and setup details.
A compatible Mini camera
Blink documents using a compatible Mini camera as a doorbell chime in the appropriate Blink system. This can be useful if you already own a supported Mini, but compatibility and system configuration matter. Phone notifications remain a separate feature. Blink’s doorbell chime options explain the supported arrangements.
An existing wired chime
If your home already has a mechanical or digital chime, a compatible Blink doorbell installation may continue to use it. The chime’s sound and power behavior are separate from the phone alert tone, and compatibility depends on the doorbell model and wiring specifications.
Alexa-enabled devices
After linking Blink and Alexa, use the Alexa app to configure doorbell announcements:
- Open the Alexa app and tap Devices.
- Select the doorbell.
- Tap Settings.
- Under Announcements, enable Doorbell Press Notifications.
- Choose the Announcement Devices.
- Open Doorbell Sound and select an available sound.
This changes the Alexa announcement or chime, not the Blink app’s phone notification. On a screened device such as an Echo Show, enabling doorbell-press notifications may also activate automatic Live View when the doorbell is pressed. Review Blink’s Alexa doorbell notification instructions before enabling the feature.

Frequently asked questions
Can every Blink camera have its own notification sound?
Not according to Blink’s documented notification-tone behavior. The selected alert tones apply across the Blink cameras and doorbells on the account for that mobile device, rather than providing a documented tone setting for each individual camera.

Does changing the tone affect other phones?
No. The setting is stored separately on each phone or tablet. Configure the Blink app or notification categories on every device where you want a different sound.
Can I use a ringtone already on my phone?
Blink documents choosing from the tones presented by the app or the device’s notification selector. Android may expose additional locally stored sounds depending on the handset, but Blink does not document that every phone can use an arbitrary ringtone or audio file.
Does Blink Chime require a subscription?
Blink states that compatible Blink Chime use does not require a Blink plan. Subscription features such as cloud recording are separate from chime operation.
Can Alexa use a different doorbell sound?
Yes. Alexa has its own Doorbell Sound selection after Doorbell Press Notifications are enabled. That setting controls Alexa’s sound, not the Blink app tone on your phone.

Check Blink’s notification permission, the phone’s volume and mute state, Focus or Do Not Disturb, and—on Android—the relevant notification category’s sound and importance settings. Also check battery-saving or utility apps that may restrict Blink.
Does this work for every Blink model?
The mobile notification-tone controls are documented for Blink app alerts, but physical chime, wiring, Mini-camera, and Alexa options depend on the specific doorbell model, accessories, and system configuration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I set a different Blink tone on two phones?
Yes. Blink notification-tone settings are configured separately on each mobile device, so two phones using the same account can use different available tones.
Will changing the Blink app tone make the doorbell louder?
No. It changes the mobile-app notification only. Use the doorbell’s audio settings or a compatible indoor chime, Mini camera, wired chime, or Alexa device for physical or whole-home alerts.
