Sungui Church Cultural Space (ㅅㄱ) is a two-storey church in Sungui-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, designed by Lim Seungmo and Jeong Jaeheon of SML. Its modest street presence, concrete-and-brick construction and 94.22 m² gross floor area make it a considered example of a religious building fitted into a mixed-use neighborhood.
What does ㅅㄱ mean?
The project’s Korean name, ㅅㄱ, is connected to Sukkoth, a place in the Old Testament associated with the Israelites’ first encampment after leaving Egypt. Architect Lim Seungmo describes the reference as a temporary place of shelter and preparation, recast for a contemporary urban setting. SPACE’s September 2026 feature identifies the project as Sungui Church Cultural Space.

How does the church meet its neighborhood?
The site is in Sungui-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, amid residential buildings, food-distribution shops, antique stores and a small shopping area. Rather than announce its religious use with a cross or other overt signage, the building presents a restrained exterior. A discreet ㅅㄱ mark appears on a wooden front wall; according to the feature, passers-by recognize the church through occasional gatherings and worship services.
