Samsung’s August 8, 2024 U.S. recall covers about 1,120,905 specific slide-in electric ranges with front-mounted knobs—not every Samsung stove. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says accidental contact by a person or pet can turn a knob and activate a burner. Check the full model number on your range against the list below; if it matches, request Samsung’s free, model-compatible knob locks or covers. CPSC recall notice
Why were Samsung ranges recalled?
The CPSC says front-mounted knobs on the affected ranges can be activated by accidental contact from people or pets. If a burner turns on while something is left on the cooktop, that item can ignite and cause a fire.

According to Samsung reports cited by the CPSC, the company received more than 300 reports of unintentional knob activation since 2013. The agency says the ranges were involved in approximately 250 fires. It reports approximately 40 injuries, eight of which required medical attention, and at least 18 fires that caused extensive property damage. The CPSC also received reports of seven fires involving pet deaths. These are U.S. figures in the recall notice, not a count of every incident involving Samsung ranges. CPSC recall notice
How to check whether your range is included
- Find the model number. The CPSC says it is on the inside upper-left corner of the oven door or inside the bottom storage bin.
- Match the complete number. Compare the model, including its suffix, with the U.S. list below. Do not rely on the Samsung name, the range’s appearance, or a partial model match.
- Use the notice for your country. The list below is for the U.S. recall. Canadian owners should check Health Canada’s separate notice and its Canadian model information. Health Canada recall notice

How to request the free knob locks or covers
Owners of an affected U.S. model can request a free set of knob locks or covers intended to fit their specific range. Samsung’s announcement directs customers to samsung.com/us/support/range-knob-kit or to call 1-833-775-0120. The CPSC notice also lists [email protected]. Check model eligibility and the current contact options with Samsung before submitting a request. Samsung announcement; CPSC recall notice
The remedy is model-dependent. Confirm the replacement or cover is the one Samsung provides for your range; the recall information does not establish that generic or third-party covers are compatible or an approved substitute.
What to do while waiting for the remedy
- Keep children and pets away from the range’s knobs.
- Before leaving home or going to bed, check that every knob is off.
- Do not leave objects on the cooktop when the range is not in use. The CPSC’s advice is: “Never place, leave, or store anything on the top of your range.”
- If your range has Wi-Fi, you can enable the SmartThings “Cooktop On” notification.
These precautions address the risk of accidental activation or a burner being left on; they do not replace requesting the model-compatible recall remedy. CPSC recall notice

Canadian owners: check the separate notice
Canada has a separate recall notice with Canadian model information. Health Canada reported more than 57 incident reports and seven injury reports as of August 28, 2024. Those Canadian reports are separate from the U.S. figures and should not be added to them. Use Health Canada’s notice to check Canadian model suffixes and instructions. Health Canada recall notice
What Samsung says about newer range knobs
In its August 8, 2024 announcement, Samsung said slide-in ranges introduced in April 2024 include Precision Knobs that require a pinching action before the user pushes and turns them. That is Samsung’s description of those newer products; it does not establish that every newer range uses this design or change whether a particular model appears on a recall list. Check the exact model against the relevant official notice. Samsung announcement
