The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on August 28, 2025, covering about 764,000 units in the United States and about 16,000 in Canada. The capacitor can overheat and burst, ejecting parts. Owners of affected units can request a free replacement-capacitor repair kit through Ryobi.
Which Ryobi pressure washers are recalled?
The recall covers three Ryobi brushless electric pressure washer models. The model number alone is not enough to establish whether a particular unit is included: the serial number must also fall within the range listed for that model.

These are electric pressure washers, not every Ryobi washer. CPSC describes the recalled units as green, with a spray nozzle, detergent tank with a blue cap, accessory storage and Ryobi printed on the front. Use the data plate and recall checker rather than appearance to decide whether a washer is affected. See the CPSC recall notice for the complete listing.
How to check your model and serial number
- Find the data plate. Look on the side of the motor housing.
- Read both identifiers. Note the full model number and serial number, including letters and leading zeroes.
- Compare them with the table above. The model must match, and its serial number must fall within one of that model’s listed ranges.
- Confirm through Ryobi’s recall process. Use the recall page linked from the CPSC notice to check the unit and request the remedy if it is included.
If the label is unreadable or you cannot tell whether the serial number is in range, do not rely on the washer’s color or other visual features. Contact TTI at 800-597-9624, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern Time, for help.

What is the hazard?
The capacitor can overheat and burst. CPSC says this can forcefully eject parts and create an impact-injury risk for the user or bystanders. TTI reported 135 overheating reports, including 41 explosions, associated with 32 injuries or fractures to fingers, hands, face and eyes, according to the CPSC notice.
What should owners of an affected washer do?
- Stop using it immediately. Do not operate a unit that matches the recall.
- Request the free repair kit through Ryobi’s recall page. The kit contains a replacement capacitor, along with shipping and installation instructions. A receipt is not required.
- Follow the supplied instructions. The CPSC-described remedy is the replacement-capacitor kit provided through the recall process; do not substitute an unverified part.

Where and when were the washers sold?
The recalled products were sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores and online from July 2017 through June 2024. The CPSC gives the former retail price as approximately $300–$400. That is historical sales information, not a current price.
The recall notice was published August 28, 2025. Its approximately 780,000 combined total reflects about 764,000 units in the United States and about 16,000 sold in Canada; it is not a precise U.S.-only count.
