Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If a ProStat thermostat is not working, first find its exact model number, then check its settings and power arrangement before attempting a reset or any wiring work. ProStat thermostats differ by model, so a fix that applies to one may not apply to another.
Start by identifying the model and symptom
Find the model number on the thermostat or its documentation. ProStat’s official document library lists separate manuals and data sheets for families including PRS3110/PRS3210, PRS4110/PRS4210, PRS6110/PRS6320, PRS6420, and PRS7325WF. Use the manual for your exact model before changing batteries, resetting settings, or considering replacement.
Note what the thermostat is showing and what the equipment is doing:
- Is the display blank, or is a low-battery indicator visible?
- Is the thermostat set to heat, cool, or off, and is the fan set to AUTO or ON?
- Is the setpoint calling for heating or cooling?
- Does the heating or cooling equipment respond?
Check settings before troubleshooting hardware
Confirm the mode matches the problem: select heat when checking a heating call and cool when checking a cooling call. Make sure the setpoint is set to request the desired operation. On PRS3110/PRS3210 models, the manual describes HEAT ON and COOL ON indicators and AUTO/ON fan operation; these labels and behaviors should not be assumed for other models. See the PRS3110/PRS3210 manual for model-specific guidance.

- 2-heat / 1-cool
- Manual-changeover
- Non-programmable
- Compatible with heat pumps with 2nd stage aux heat
- Battery or 24vac system powered
If the display is blank or shows low battery
First check the exact model and how it is powered. The battery instructions below apply to PRS3110/PRS3210 installations that use batteries; other models or hardwired installations can differ. That model family can use two AA alkaline batteries, or 18–30 VAC, depending on installation.
- Consult the matching manual and confirm the installation uses batteries.
- Replace both batteries with AA alkaline batteries, orienting the positive and negative ends according to the markings.
- Reseat the thermostat body after replacing them.
The PRS3110/PRS3210 manual recommends replacing batteries annually or before an extended period when the building will be unattended. Do not assume that a blank screen on a different model is a battery problem; check its manual and power setup.
When and how to reset a ProStat thermostat
Reset only after checking the model-specific instructions and understanding what will be erased. A reset may require you to enter your settings again.

Cooling does not start immediately
The PRS3110/PRS3210 manual describes automatic compressor protection after the compressor shuts off. A short delay after a recent cooling cycle or mode change can therefore be normal for those models. The manual does not specify how long the delay lasts, so avoid repeated setting changes or assuming the thermostat has failed solely because cooling does not begin instantly. Check the matching manual if the delay persists or the equipment does not respond.
When to stop and call an HVAC professional
Do not open the thermostat or change wiring if you are unsure of the terminals or installation. The PRS6420 installer manual warns of shock or equipment damage, directs that power be disconnected before installation, and states: “For installation by experienced service technicians only.” Its warning is model-specific, but wiring work on an unfamiliar system should be left to an experienced HVAC professional.

- 【Notice】Buyers should thoroughly examine the installation and wiring instructions depicted in the images before buying. It is recommended to exercise caution if you lack experience in installation to avoid potential problems like product malfunction or incompatibility due to incorrect purchases. Note that the base can only be attached with a maximum of 2 to 5 wires, and connections with 6 to 8 wires are not suitable.
- 【Incompatible Systems】Multistage Heat & Cooling, 3-wire Hydronic (Hot Water), Heat Pump with Auxiliary Heating, Heat Pump w/o Auxiliary Heating, Dual Fuel/Hybrid Multistage Heating, Mini Split Systems, RV Thermostat, Convectors/Radiant Ceiling Heat and Electric Baseboard Heat ( 120-240 Volts)
- 【Compatible Systems】Single-Stage Heating & Cooling, Gas/Oil/Electric Furnace (Heat only) , Boiler Radiant (Heat only), Furnace Forced-Air (Heat Only), Gas Fireplace (24 Volts), Cooling Only
- S3001-White Non-programmable thermostat for house conventional single-stage systems up to 1 heat/1 cool, to control the temperature in a room.
- Easy to Install and Use: Large terminal blocks with universal sub-base, can be installed within 30 minutes, clear, easy-to-read backlight LCD display and easy controls make for a user-friendly experience.
Arrange professional help if wiring changes are needed, the terminals are unclear, or the equipment still fails to respond after checking the settings and model-appropriate power guidance. Consult the PRS6420 installer manual for its safety requirements; do not treat its installation instructions as a DIY guide for other models.

Do not choose a replacement based on the ProStat name alone. Compare the existing thermostat and HVAC system against the candidate’s specifications, and verify the application guidance for the exact model.

The PRS6110 product information describes support for single-stage gas, oil, or electric systems; single-stage heat pumps with or without auxiliary heat; 250–750 mV millivolt heating; and certain two- or three-wire hydronic zone systems. It lists 24 VAC or two AA batteries. The differences show why system type, stages, wiring, and power need to be checked for the specific replacement.
Warranty details are model-specific
The PRS3110/PRS3210 manual states a limited warranty period of five years, as published by PROPARTS in 2018. The manual’s conditions include purchase by a professional service technician and exclusions; check the document for the full terms. Do not assume that period or those terms apply to other ProStat models or current purchases.
