Merdeka 118 rises 678.9 metres (2,227 feet) above Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, making it the world’s second-tallest building by the height measure used by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). Only Dubai’s 828-metre Burj Khalifa is taller by that measure. The tower has 118 floors above ground and a spire that contributes to its reported height.

How tall is Merdeka 118, and how is it ranked?

Malaysia’s Ministry of Works gives Merdeka 118’s height as 678.9 metres (2,227 feet), describes it as 118 storeys, and ranks it second in the world behind the 828-metre Burj Khalifa. Those figures use the convention that measures a skyscraper to its highest point, including its spire. Malaysia’s Ministry of Works published the figures in 2024; the CTBUH Skyscraper Center profile also reports a height of 678.9 metres.

Height rankings depend on comparing like with like. CTBUH’s standard height-to-architectural-top measure includes a building’s highest architectural point, such as a spire, but excludes some elements such as antennae, flagpoles, signage and technical equipment. It differs from measures such as roof height or occupied height. Merdeka 118’s spire is part of its reported overall height, so comparisons using another measure may produce a different ranking.

Where is the tower, and what is in the development?

Merdeka 118 is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its official project site presents the development as a mixed destination with workspaces, The View at 118 observation deck, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, 118 Mall and premium residences. The official Merdeka 118 site describes the destination as combining commerce, culture, heritage and community.

The tower’s scale is reflected in its vertical mix of uses. The official Park Hyatt page places the hotel between Levels 75 and 114 and lists 252 guestrooms. The hotel’s presence in the tower does not establish that a hotel booking includes admission to the observation deck. Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur at Merdeka 118

How was Merdeka 118 completed?

Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), the project’s owner, recorded two key construction milestones in its 2021 annual report:

  • June 2021: The final roof slab was completed and the tower reached Level 118.
  • November 2021: The spire was completed, bringing the tower to its final reported height of 678.9 metres.

Can visitors go to The View at 118 or 118 Mall?

The official site promotes The View at 118 as Southeast Asia’s highest observation deck, but the information available does not establish whether it is currently open to the public, how tickets can be obtained, or what its visitor hours and restrictions are. Confirm those details through official channels before planning a visit.

The official homepage says 118 Mall is expected to welcome visitors in the second half of 2026. That is a forward-looking timeline, not confirmation that the mall has opened. The mall page lists daily operating hours, but the homepage’s later opening-status statement should guide current planning. 118 Mall at Merdeka 118
