Its maker calls it the “world’s first electric cocktail smoker,” but the available sources do not independently establish that no earlier product existed. Here’s how the device is described to work, what comes in the current kits, and what the published claims do—and do not—tell you.
How the Smokpub electric cocktail smoker works
New Atlas describes a base that sits over a glass or another vessel, with wood chips placed in a mesh-lined center. A magnetic electronic top fits over the base; pressing a button ignites the chips and directs smoke into the vessel. The unit is described as rechargeable and made of stainless steel. New Atlas also reports the creators’ claim that ignition stops when the device is lifted. These are product descriptions, not findings from an independent hands-on test. New Atlas’ October 8, 2024 feature explains the design.
The manufacturer says the smoker can be used with whiskey, bourbon, cocktails, and other items. The practical idea is to add smoke aroma at the vessel, rather than to cook or heat the drink.
What comes in the Smokpub kits
Smokpub currently presents two kit options on its storefront: a Basic Kit and a Complete Set. The manufacturer’s Complete Set page lists the smoker, six wood-chip flavors, a spoon, USB charging cable, cleaning brush, and user manual. Kit contents can change, so check the product listing for the version being sold when you order.

The Complete Set page states that products ship from local US and EU warehouses and lists a 30-day return policy and six-month limited warranty. Those are seller terms, not independent guarantees; confirm the current terms and whether they apply to your location before purchase.
What “world’s first” and the sales figures actually establish
Smokpub’s Our Story page calls the product “the world’s first electric cocktail smoker.” That is the company’s claim, not a verified historical finding. New Atlas used “electric whiskey smoker” in its headline and described the device as a cocktail or drink smoker in the article. Neither source independently compares earlier products to establish priority.

The Kickstarter campaign ran from September 5 to October 15, 2024, and recorded US$778,651 pledged by 9,019 backers. Those are campaign totals, not evidence of how many units were delivered or how customers rated them. Smokpub separately says on its Our Story page that it has had more than 8,000 backers and sold more than 10,000 units; those are company-reported figures, not independently audited market totals.
Price, performance, and evidence limits
New Atlas reported a US$49 Kickstarter launch offer in October 2024, including cherry and oak chips, with a six-flavor add-on. That was a historical crowdfunding offer, not a current price. Smokpub’s storefront now displays Basic Kit and Complete Set pricing, which may change; check the current listings rather than relying on the campaign figure.

The available sources do not provide independent testing of flavor, battery life, uses per charge, durability, safety, or ease of cleaning. Smokpub’s format is aimed at adding a visible smoke effect and wood aroma to a drink without using a conventional torch-based setup. Whether that is useful depends on how often you make smoked drinks, whether the device fits the glassware you use, and whether the included chip selection and charging arrangement suit you. The current listing is the place to verify kit contents and price; the available evidence does not establish a tested advantage over other smokers.
