Two buildings collapsed in Lucknow’s Arya Nagar on January 3, 2024, after police evacuated nearby residents. One building was under construction. The available reports establish the evacuation and collapse, but do not independently verify every action visible in a circulating video or determine the structural cause.
What happened in Arya Nagar
The collapse occurred on Wednesday afternoon, January 3, 2024, in the Naka police-station area of Lucknow. Two adjacent buildings fell; one was under construction. Hindustan Times reported that cracks appeared before the collapse and that police moved people away from the area. Hindustan Times’ January 3 report and a Times of India report published the same day describe the incident and the video alert preceding the evacuation.
In a statement reported by Hindustan Times on January 4, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manisha Singh said: “There was no loss of life; people living in the building were safely evacuated.” A second Hindustan Times account reported no fatalities or injuries. These are contemporaneous news reports, not independently audited totals.
What the reports say about the evacuation
According to the police account quoted by Hindustan Times, officers acted after noticing a video showing a wall in poor condition and unstable structures at risk of collapse. Police evacuated residents and cordoned off the area.

The report says 60 people from four nearby houses were evacuated shortly before the buildings fell, including ten people from the buildings themselves. Those figures come from the police account reported at the time.
What the video does—and does not—establish
News reports describe footage of the unstable buildings circulating on social media. They support the account that a video alert preceded police action. They do not, by themselves, establish the original recorder, authenticate every circulating copy, or confirm the exact sequence and actions of everyone shown. The reports establish that residents were evacuated and the area was cordoned off; they do not independently verify that every onlooker in a particular clip ran for safety.

The available reports also do not establish permission to republish a specific video. A clip circulating on social media should not be treated as cleared for reuse without confirming its provenance and rights.

Some local residents told Hindustan Times that basement excavation at the construction site had caused cracks in the neighboring building. That is a residents’ allegation, not a confirmed engineering finding. The same report quoted police as saying: “The exact reason for the collapse is unknown, the concerned department has been informed.” That statement reflects what police said at the time; the reports cited here do not provide a final structural investigation or establish a definitive cause.
