Choose a jigsaw around the cuts you need to make, the materials you work with, and where you’ll use the tool. For a mobile setup—or if you already own compatible batteries—a cordless model may fit. For a fixed bench or sustained shop work, corded may be more convenient. Then compare blade compatibility, speed and pendulum settings, bevel adjustment, dust management, and grip on the exact model listing.
What a jigsaw can do
A jigsaw uses a reciprocating blade to make curved cuts, straight cuts, angled cuts, and internal cut-outs. Manufacturers list wood, board products, plastic, and metal among possible materials, but the blade must be suited to the material and cut. A jigsaw is versatile; it is not a guarantee of a perfectly straight cut. For straight work, use a suitable blade, support the workpiece, and guide the saw carefully.
Choose corded or cordless based on where you work
Go cordless for mobility or a battery platform you already own
A cordless jigsaw avoids a power lead and can be practical on a building site or wherever the work moves around. If you already own batteries and a charger from a compatible tool platform, compare the bare-tool cost with a complete kit. Confirm that the battery system matches; voltage alone does not establish compatibility.
Consider corded for a fixed workstation
A corded jigsaw may suit a dedicated workstation or sustained shop use where access to mains power is convenient. The choice is about work setting and preference, not an established performance ranking. Festool Application Expert José Kunze describes cordless as his first choice on a building site for mobility and flexibility, while noting that corded can make sense at a workshop workstation (Festool).
#1 Best Overall
- Brushless motor of the cordless jigsaw delivers efficient performance for longer runtime (vs. DCS331 Jig Saw)
- Compact size for easy grip and maximum control of the jig saw
- Bright LED on the jigsaw tool helps illuminate dimly lit work surfaces
- Variable speed trigger and dial provide precise speed control
- All-metal, lever-action keyless blade change allows for quick and easy t-shank blade changes
Match the saw to the cut and material
Before comparing features, list the work you actually expect to do:
- Curves and internal cut-outs: Check that the blade and saw can follow the intended path; a clean contour may call for reduced or disabled pendulum action.
- Straight cuts: A jigsaw can make them, but careful guidance and appropriate blade selection matter. Do not assume the tool alone will produce a perfectly straight edge.
- Angled cuts: Check whether the shoe bevels and how its angle is adjusted or indexed.
- Different materials: Choose a blade for the material, such as wood, board, plastic, or metal, and check the saw’s stated capability and the blade maker’s guidance.
Compare the features that affect control and convenience
Variable speed
Variable speed gives the operator control over blade rate. Check how it is controlled—such as by a trigger—and whether the model’s arrangement suits the work you do.
Rank #2
- [POWER MOTOR] Max 3,000 SPM corded jig saws for all kinds of wood cutting. Featuring variable speed control that adjusts the cutting speed to suit the blade and application, the jigsaw allows for a precise finish and provides the power you need to make the majority of cuts for your DIY or beginner woodworking projects.
- [TOOL-LESS BLADE CLAMP & BEVEL CUTTING] The electric wood cutter with the tool-less saw blade clamp, saw blades can be changed quickly without tools. Sturdy metal base plate adjusts to 0°, 15°, 30° and 45° for different bevel cutting needs.
- [4 ORBITAL SETTINGS] Jigsaw with 4-position orbital settings allow for smooth cutting for a variety of applications. The higher orbital setting is suitable for softer materials and faster cutting; lower for harder materials and slower cutting.
- [PRECISE CUTTING] A vacuum hose(not included) can be attached directly to the dust port adapter to give you a clear view of the workpiece being sawed so you can easily follow the cut line. The parallel guide enables you to saw parallel cuts.
- [PACKAGE INCLUDED] The corded Jig Saw Kit is 1 x jigsaw, 1 x Replaceable wood blade, 1 x Parallel guide Ruler, 1 x Dust-blowing port adapter, 1 x Allen wrench, and 1 x User manual.
Pendulum action
Pendulum action adds a forward-and-back movement to the blade to increase cutting speed. It is an adjustable setting, not a quality score: Festool advises reducing or switching it off when following a contour cleanly (Festool).
Blade change and shank fit
Look at how the blade is secured and changed, then verify the shank type accepted by the exact saw. Some models support more than one type: BLACK+DECKER’s BDCJS18-QW page, for example, specifies T- and U-shank blades. That specification applies to that model, not every jigsaw (BLACK+DECKER).

- Versatility and Lasting Power - 3, 000 SPM power corded jigsaw for all kinds of wood cutting and shaping. Variable speed control to adjust cutting speed as blades and applications change, and a brake function for a precise finish
- 4-Stage Orbital - Tackle smooth or aggressive cuts with the 4-stage orbital function
- Bevel Cut - Sturdy metal base plate can be adjusted up to 45°for bevel cutting
- Dust Port - Dust tube is easily attached to a vacuum to keep the working environment clean and dust-free
- Tool-free T-Shank Blade Change System - Quick and easy blade changes
Bevel shoe
If angled cuts matter, check the shoe’s adjustment method and available detents on the specific listing. Do not assume that every saw offers the same angle range or adjustment convenience.
Dust visibility and extraction
A dust blower or extraction connection can help keep the cut line visible or manage dust. Check what the model actually includes; a listed dust-management feature does not establish how effective it will be in your setup.
Rank #4
- VERSATILE APPLICATION – 3/4 in. stroke length for cutting wood, metal, and more materials.
- VARIABLE-SPEED MOTOR – 4.5 Amp motor generates up to 3,000 spm of cutting power.
- COMPACT AND LIGHTWEIGHT – Electric jig saw is designed for easy maneuverability and reduced vibration.
- BEVELED CUTS – Base plate tilts to make beveled cuts up to 45 degrees.
- WIRE GUARD – Supplies a clear line of sight for enhanced cutting precision.
Grip and handling
Top-handle and barrel-grip designs position the hand differently. Consider which feels controllable for your cuts and working position, and inspect the exact handle layout rather than choosing by label alone.

Check the box contents and blade before buying
Do not compare a bare tool with a complete kit as though they include the same essentials. Confirm whether the package contains a battery, charger, blades, and any accessories you need. Before ordering blades, check both the saw’s supported shank and the blade’s material and cut purpose. Compatibility is model-specific.
Quick Recap
- Identify the material and the kinds of cut you will make.
- Choose corded or cordless based on the work location and any compatible batteries already owned.
- Check handle style, variable speed, pendulum settings, shoe adjustment, and dust features against the listing.
- Verify blade-shank compatibility and the blades supplied, if any.
- Confirm whether the item is tool-only or a kit, and check the exact regional package.
