There is no single safe door-lock override for every Samsung washing machine. A locked door is often a safety interlock doing its job: the washer may still be running, contain water, be too hot, or have Child Lock enabled. Do not force the door. Check the cycle, wait for the lock to release, and use the emergency drain procedure only if your model supports it.
Why won’t my Samsung washer door open?
The door lock helps prevent water from spilling out and protects against injury. It can remain engaged while the washer operates, while water is still inside, when the internal temperature is too high, or while Child Lock is active. A completed cycle does not always mean the latch releases instantly.
Samsung’s guidance is explicit: “Do not open the washer door by force while it is operating (high-temperature washing, drying, or spinning).” See Samsung UK’s guidance on opening the door during operation.
How to unlock the door safely

Check whether the washer is still operating
If a cycle is running, let it finish or use the washer’s normal Start/Pause or cancel control as described in its manual. On some supported UK models, Start/Pause can allow laundry to be added or removed early in a cycle; the door may still remain locked if the water level or temperature is too high. Do not pull on the door or try to defeat the latch.

Wait for the lock to release and check for water or heat
After the cycle ends or the washer is paused, give the lock mechanism time to disengage. Samsung says a paused washer may need about a minute before the door can open. Its US guidance says some top-load models that lose power during a cycle can take up to five minutes to unlock. These are model-specific timings, not a guarantee for every washer. Check that the lock indicator is off and that water has drained. A hot wash, drying cycle, or spin may keep the door locked until conditions are safe.

Check whether Child Lock is on
Look for a child-lock symbol or a “CL” indication on the display. The button combination to turn Child Lock off varies by model. Use the combination printed on the control panel or find the exact user manual by searching Samsung support with the washer’s full model code. Restarting the washer does not necessarily turn Child Lock off.

Drain remaining water if your front-loader’s manual instructs you to
If water is preventing a front-load washer from unlocking, check the manual for its emergency drain procedure before doing anything. The hose and filter access vary, and some older models may not have the pump-filter or emergency-hose arrangement shown in current instructions. Samsung’s US guidance for a locked Samsung washer door and UK emergency-draining instructions describe procedures for applicable models.
For a model with an emergency drain hose, the procedure generally involves switching the washer off and unplugging it, placing towels and a flat or suitable container by the lower filter area, then slowly draining through the hose. Water may spill, so keep the container in place and take care with hot water. Refit the cap and hose as the manual directs. Once the water has drained, power the washer on and try the door again. Do not remove parts or improvise a latch release.

Contact Samsung service if the door remains locked
If the cycle has ended, water is gone, Child Lock is off, and the door still will not release, stop troubleshooting and request service. Symptoms alone do not establish whether the latch or another component has failed; avoid guessing at a bypass or buying a replacement lock without a diagnosis.
How to find the right instructions for your model
Samsung washer procedures differ by model and market. Search Samsung Support using the full model code from the washer’s label, then consult that model’s user manual for the Child Lock controls and any emergency-drain steps. Do not assume your machine has the same hose location, filter access, button combination, or manual-release feature as another model.

A shallow pan or other low-sided household container can be useful when draining water, but it is optional if you already have a suitable container. Prepare towels as well, and follow the manual’s directions rather than forcing the door.
