If your Samsung refrigerator is leaking, dry the water first and note exactly where it appears. Water below the crisper drawers, beneath the appliance, at the filter, around an Autofill pitcher, or dripping from the dispenser can have different causes. Check whether it returns before deciding the fridge needs repair: condensation after a power loss or shutdown, fallen ice, and spills from food containers can look like a leak.
Start with a safe visual check
- Keep clear of wet electrical components. Water conducts electricity. Samsung India advises unplugging the refrigerator or switching off its circuit breaker before handling a leak. Do not reach behind covers or handle electrical or plumbing components; arrange service if access is needed.
- Dry the water and identify its location. Check inside the compartment, beneath the drawers, around the filter or pitcher, at the dispenser, and on the floor under the refrigerator.
- Look for an obvious spill. Check for fallen ice, a leaking food container, or signs the refrigerator was recently off or without power.
- Observe whether water returns. A recurring leak needs troubleshooting based on its location. If water is near electrical parts, a component is damaged, or the source is not visible, stop and contact Samsung support or a qualified appliance technician.
Samsung’s US and UK guidance covers different models and regions. Use the manual and support instructions for your exact model before attempting anything beyond basic visual checks.
Water inside the refrigerator or below the drawers
Water at the bottom of the refrigerator compartment may be a spill or condensation, but a blocked defrost drain is another possibility. Samsung UK says debris can collect in the drain and lead to water or ice at the compartment bottom. If the water returns after drying and checking for spills, contact Samsung support or a technician for a model-specific drain inspection; do not assume that one drain-clearing procedure applies to every model.
Check the refrigerator’s front-to-back tilt
Samsung says its refrigerators are designed to tilt slightly backward. A correctly leveled refrigerator is not necessarily level from front to back; the slight tilt supports self-closing doors and drainage. Treat this as a preliminary check, not proof that leveling is the cause. Follow the instructions for your model rather than adjusting the appliance by guesswork.

Water at the water filter
If water is appearing around the filter, Samsung US advises removing and inspecting the filter and its housing. A damaged or suspect filter may need replacement, but the correct part depends on your refrigerator’s exact model; there is no single filter number for all Samsung refrigerators.
- Look for visible damage to the filter and its housing.
- If replacing a suspect filter, use a genuine compatible filter selected for your model.
- Request service if the housing is damaged, water leaks with the filter removed, or a compatible replacement does not stop the leak.
Water around an Autofill pitcher
This check applies only to Samsung refrigerators equipped with an Autofill pitcher. Inspect the pitcher and lid for cracks, then dry and reassemble them correctly. Where the model’s instructions call for it, drain the Autofill compartment and check the spring-loaded button behind the pitcher. Replace a damaged pitcher with one compatible with the exact model. If the pitcher is not damaged and the leak continues, contact Samsung support.

- Note: This product is square, not round. Replacement for DA97-17376B (HAF-QIN), not compatible with DA29-00020B (HAF-CIN). The Waterspecialist refrigerator water filter features filtration performance is comparable to the original brand. It is also certified by authority NSF 42 and 372. Far different from generic brand, Waterspecialist only adopts superior coconut shell carbon block to improve taste and odor.
- Great filtration: Waterspecialist refrigerator filters can reduce many harmful substances in water including heavy metals, mercury, chlorine, odor, THM, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), particles, copper, cadmium, chromium, and all other major impurities. This has been tested and proven by an independent third-party laboratory. While the impurities are reduced, every beneficial mineral in your water is kept, ensuring that your body functions properly.
- Premium filter material: Waterspecialist selected BPA-free and food-grade filter housing that passed NSF 372 certification for lead-free filtration. We also adopt natural coconut shell carbon block that contains larger surface area and more micropores. Thus, the filter cartridge can efficiently reduce chlorine, bad taste and odor.
- Perfect fit: Waterspecialist combines precision measurement technology to produce refrigerator filters with exquisite engineering designs, unlike inferior replacement filters that can cause water leakage issues. Also, Waterspecialist saves you time and hassle by offering tool-free refrigerator filter replacements.
- Fresh-tasting water: The natural coconut shell carbon block absorbs more impurities. The Waterspecialist refrigerator filter provides you a unique filtration experience.
Water beneath the refrigerator
Samsung UK explains that automatic defrost melts ice and sends the water to a tray at the refrigerator’s bottom rear, where it normally evaporates. A puddle under the appliance can involve the drainage hole or tray, so the location and condition matter.
What the drain tray guidance means
- Blocked drainage hole: Samsung UK says this may need an engineer’s inspection. Do not treat it as a universal DIY repair.
- Overflowing tray: Samsung UK says to switch the refrigerator off before checking and cleaning the tray. Follow the instructions for your model and do not access components if doing so requires removing covers or handling wiring.
- Empty tray but water still leaks: The tray may be damaged and need replacement through a Samsung service centre.
Samsung UK notes that tray evaporation may be affected when the ambient temperature is much lower than 25°C (77°F) or humidity is above 75%. These are conditions cited in Samsung’s guidance, not universal thresholds for diagnosing every leak.

Drips from the water dispenser
A few drops immediately after dispensing can be normal. Samsung US says dripping for several seconds may occur and advises holding a glass under the dispenser for approximately 3–5 seconds after dispensing. A continuing or recurring drip is a different symptom.
If the dispenser keeps dripping
- After installation or a filter change: Samsung lists trapped air as a possible cause and advises dispensing water to purge it. Follow the instructions for your model.
- Ice around the chute: Clear and dry ice residue, then check whether the chute and bucket seal properly.
- Dripping continues when you are not dispensing: Contact Samsung support or a qualified technician if the checks do not stop it.
Samsung US also lists model-specific cases: crossed water lines can swap water and ice functions on RS27T and RS22T models, and certain RF30BB, RF29BB, RF24BB, and RF23BB models have a dispenser nozzle that should be present. These examples do not apply to every refrigerator; confirm the exact model and its instructions. Avoid applying a water-pressure or plumbing procedure unless the model manual calls for it.

Check the door seal and visible connections
If water keeps collecting inside or beneath the refrigerator, check whether the door closes fully and whether cold air escapes around its edge. Samsung UK suggests trapping a sheet of paper in the closed door: if it slides out without resistance, the seal may not be gripping properly. This is a preliminary check, not a diagnosis of a failed seal.
If it is safe to do so, visually inspect accessible rear hoses and connections for looseness or damage. Do not move the refrigerator or work on plumbing if that would expose wet electrical parts or require removing covers. Have a technician assess damaged or inaccessible connections.

- The leak returns after you dry the area and rule out a spill or temporary condensation.
- A filter housing, Autofill pitcher, or drain tray appears damaged.
- Water continues leaking with the filter removed or after a compatible replacement.
- You suspect a blocked drain, need access behind a cover, or cannot identify the source safely.
- The dispenser drips continuously when not in use.
Have the refrigerator’s model number ready when contacting Samsung or arranging service. That helps confirm the right instructions and compatible parts.
