Before using one, check that the exact model is rated for your glass thickness and secure its safety tether. Models and their instructions differ, so follow the manual for placement, separation and cleaning.
Check the glass and cleaner before you start
Find the cleaner’s model number and confirm that your pane’s thickness falls within that model’s stated range. Magnetic strength and design vary: for example, Joybos lists multiple configurations, the Tyroler Bright Tools Glider D-2 listing specifies 8–18 mm, and AGUNA’s manual listing gives 5–32 mm. These are product-specific examples, not interchangeable ratings. Check the exact product documentation; if you cannot establish the pane thickness, do not guess.
Using a cleaner outside its supported range can prevent the halves from coupling or moving properly. The Glider D-2 listing warns that an incorrect model can detach or perform poorly. A tether is a precaution, not a way to make an incompatible cleaner safe. Joybos product information, Tyroler Bright Tools Glider D-2 listing and AGUNA manual listing describe product-specific specifications; confirm the range and instructions for the model you own.
Inspect the pane and work area
- Do not use the cleaner on cracked or broken glass.
- Read the model’s directions for aligning and separating the magnetic halves. They can snap together suddenly; keep fingers clear and handle them carefully.
- Make sure you can work from indoors without leaning out or reaching outside to position or recover the exterior half.
Set up the cleaner securely
- Attach and secure the tether. Connect the safety rope to the exterior half and secure or hold it exactly as the manufacturer directs before positioning that half outside. Keep control of the tether while working. It reduces the risk of the exterior piece falling but cannot guarantee that it will not detach.
- Prepare the pads. Wet the cleaning pads with water or glass-cleaning solution as directed by your model’s instructions. There is no established universal formula or amount for every cleaner.
- Position the halves. Place the two parts on opposite sides of the pane, aligned according to the manual. Follow the product’s specified method rather than improvising how to bring them together.

Clean the exterior face with controlled movements
Move the room-side half slowly and steadily so the exterior half can follow while the magnets remain coupled. Keep the tether controlled, and avoid abrupt pulls or fast direction changes. If the halves lose their connection, do not lean out or reach through the window to retrieve or reposition the exterior piece; follow the manufacturer’s recovery instructions from a safe position.
Separate, clean and store the parts
At the end, separate the halves using the method in the manual, keeping fingers clear of the magnetic pull. Clean removable pads if the instructions allow it, and dry components before storage where directed. If pads or wipers need replacing, check that the replacement is specified for your exact model.

What to compare when choosing a cleaner
Start with the pane’s measured thickness and a model whose stated range includes it. Then compare practical features that affect setup and upkeep:
- How the safety tether attaches, and whether its length suits the work area.
- How the manufacturer instructs you to align and separate the halves.
- Whether cleaning pads or wipers are replaceable and available for that model.
- Whether clear, model-specific instructions are provided.
The cited product listings show why ranges must be checked individually; they do not establish controlled comparative cleaning performance or a single best model for every window.
