How to Build Houzz’s 2025 Home Design Trends in 2026

Use Houzz’s 2025 design ideas selectively in 2026: choose one lead direction, test it with reversible changes, and assess feasibility before construction. This guide covers warm kitchens, curves, color, texture, wallpaper, wellness spaces, and practical planning limits.

The 2026 way to use Houzz’s 2025 home design trends is to create a warmer, more personal, and more durable home—not to combine every forecast in one room. Houzz’s 2025 article was an editorial menu of design ideas, not a ranked survey; its late-2025 outlook suggests that several themes, including traditional detail, warm wood, texture, curves, wellness, and longevity, continue into 2026.

Choose one design direction, test it with low-commitment changes, and check feasibility before work involving cabinets, tile, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, or structure. Costs, permits, product suitability, and construction requirements depend on the house and location, so this trend guide is not a construction drawing or code determination.

What Houzz’s trends mean for a 2026 project

Houzz’s January 2025 editorial covered a range of styles and ideas: warm English-style kitchens, range alcoves, shower rooms and wellness features, rounded forms and arches, handmade-looking surfaces, woven details, expressive color, vintage references, and landscape and sustainability themes. These are design possibilities, not evidence that every homeowner is adopting them.

Houzz’s late-2025 outlook carried forward selected themes such as traditional detail, green and warm wood, integrated features, texture, wellness, curves, and longevity. Treat that continuity as inspiration, not a requirement to renovate or a promise of resale value.

Choose a direction before choosing finishes

Start with one lead direction: warm traditional, organic modern, expressive color, tactile and handmade, vintage-inspired, or wellness-focused. Add one supporting note—such as warm-metal hardware or a curved mirror—rather than stacking every trend together. This is practical design guidance drawn from the trend families, not a Houzz rule.

Make a one-page decision board before buying. Record the room’s dimensions, fixed elements, daylight, existing wood and metal finishes, one lead color, two neutrals, and a small set of finish families. Include photos that show the mood you want, then view real samples in the room in both daylight and evening light.

For renovation work, confirm appliance models, clearances, electrical and plumbing locations, ventilation routes, and structural constraints before selecting permanent finishes. Images and screens can distort a material’s scale and undertone, so request samples of paint, wallpaper, tile, and wood stain where available.

Use a three-level commitment plan

Level Examples Before you proceed
Low commitment Change a lamp, shade, throw, art, mirror, cabinet pulls, or vintage accessory; try color in a small area. Check scale and color in the actual room. Confirm product instructions, especially for removable wallcovering.
Medium commitment Add wallpaper, woven shades, a rug, a curved chair, a beverage station, or a warm-wood furniture piece. Check dimensions, wall or floor condition, cleaning needs, and how the new materials work with existing finishes.
High commitment Reconfigure a kitchen, build a range alcove, replace cabinets, install tile or stone, add a shower room or sauna, or move utilities. Have qualified professionals assess feasibility, scope, ventilation, safety, permits, and local requirements before construction.

Warm English and traditional kitchens

Houzz’s English-style kitchen theme combines characterful elements such as rich wood, historical colors, natural-looking counters, beams, range alcoves, and collected details. A 2026 interpretation can pair one or two heritage touches with contemporary function: useful storage, task lighting, an uncluttered work area, and surfaces suited to everyday use.

Keep the design from becoming a period set. Choose a lead material or color, then use samples to check how cabinetry, counters, floors, and hardware look together. Saturated cabinetry is a design choice, not the statistical norm: the U.S. Houzz 2025 Kitchen Trends Study reported transitional as the leading selected style at 25%, with traditional at 14%; white, wood, and off-white were leading cabinet-color choices.

  • Smart Measuring Companion: Comes with measuring tape to plan layout and trim accurately before applying, minimizing waste for a perfect fit.
  • DIY Installation: Designed as a basic tool set for vinyl backsplash tile installation and DIY home improvement projects.

Those figures describe the study’s U.S. respondent sample, not all kitchens or a universal preference. The report can inform context, but the right palette depends on the home and the people using it.

Curves, arches, and organic-modern forms

Rounded furniture, oblong mirrors, arches, scallops, and natural materials can soften a room’s geometry. Repeat a curve in a few places—for example, a mirror, an ottoman, and a lamp—while retaining straight-edged anchors such as a rectangular rug, table, or cabinetry. That gives the look cohesion without making every feature compete.

Decorative changes and structural changes are not the same scope. Before altering an opening or wall, have a qualified professional determine whether the work affects structure and what approvals may be required. A trend article cannot determine whether a particular wall or opening is safe to change.

Color, wallpaper, and tactile surfaces

Color drenching carries one hue across walls, trim, the ceiling, and sometimes furniture. Houzz reported that comparable U.S. searches for color drenching rose 325% year over year in its emerging-summer search data. Search activity indicates interest on the platform; it does not measure purchases, installations, or national popularity.

Try a more committed color in a smaller room, such as an office, bedroom, entry, or powder room, before using it throughout a home. Select paint finish for the surface and its use rather than assuming one finish suits every application.

Wallpaper is another way to add pattern and color without rebuilding a room. Houzz’s 2025 fall report described a renewed interest in wallpaper, including on ceilings. For peel-and-stick wallpaper, measure the actual surface and account for waste, check the product’s coverage and adhesive type, and confirm that the wall is smooth, clean, sound, and suitable under the manufacturer’s guidance. Do not assume it will work on textured walls, in damp bathrooms, or on ceilings without product-specific confirmation.

Layer tactile finishes selectively: for example, wood with a woven shade, a plaster-like finish with smooth stone, or handmade-looking tile with simple cabinetry. Houzz’s fall report and 2026 outlook discuss materials and details including boucle, grasscloth, plaster, zellige, fluting, limewash, stone, and handmade tile.

For kitchens and bathrooms, specify the complete assembly rather than selecting tile alone: substrate, waterproofing where needed, transitions, grout, edges, cleaning, and installation all matter. Stone and engineered surfaces also require a professional safety plan. OSHA identifies respirable crystalline silica as a construction exposure hazard and describes water and engineering controls for silica-containing materials; do not advise or attempt uncontrolled dry cutting or grinding.

Wellness bathrooms and saunas

Houzz’s 2025 trend list included shower rooms, wellness features, and saunas. Begin with safe layout, water management, lighting, accessibility, and ventilation before adding luxury features. A shower room, steam feature, sauna, waterproofing system, or utility change may not be feasible in every house and should be assessed as a construction project.

Vent moisture-producing rooms outdoors. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency advises exhausting bathroom and kitchen ventilation directly outdoors rather than into an attic or enclosed space. Have a qualified professional assess the ventilation route and any plumbing, electrical, or permit requirements for your project.

Bring the same approach to kitchens, living spaces, and entries

For a kitchen, decide whether the main change is color, cabinetry, a range alcove, or integrated appliances; confirm the relevant appliance and utility requirements before committing to fixed work. Houzz documents interest in these design features, but that does not mean every existing kitchen can accommodate them.

In a living room, a curved chair, vintage furniture, warm-metal lighting, or a textured rug can introduce a design direction without changing the room’s structure. In an entry or laundry room, color, practical storage, and durable finishes can add character while responding to everyday use.

For outdoor spaces, treat landscaping, cooking, and utility work as separate scopes. Confirm product suitability for exposure and local conditions, and bring in qualified professionals when a plan involves electrical, gas, plumbing, drainage, or construction.

Before buying: a practical checklist

  1. Choose one lead design direction and, at most, one supporting note.
  2. Measure the room and note fixed elements, daylight, existing finishes, and circulation needs.
  3. Collect samples and view them in the room at different times of day.
  4. Test the least permanent version of the look before considering demolition or custom fabrication.
  5. For wallpaper, check coverage, adhesive, wall suitability, moisture exposure, sample availability, and manufacturer instructions.
  6. Before fixed construction, verify appliance models, clearances, utility locations, ventilation, structural constraints, and local permit requirements with qualified professionals.

FAQ

Are Houzz’s 2025 design trends still relevant in 2026?

Several themes from Houzz’s 2025 editorial were carried into its late-2025 outlook for 2026, including traditional detail, warm wood, texture, curves, wellness, and longevity. That is evidence of editorial continuity, not proof that all trends are widespread or right for every home.

What is the safest way to try a design trend?

Start with a low-commitment change such as a lamp, mirror, textile, paint test, or removable wallcovering where the product is suitable. Test color, scale, and texture before committing to demolition, custom fabrication, or changes to building systems.

Does a rise in Houzz searches mean a trend is popular nationwide?

No. Houzz search increases show changing activity on its platform among the defined search audience; they do not measure purchases, installations, or national prevalence. Houzz’s 2025 trend editorial is an editorial list, not a ranked survey.

Can peel-and-stick wallpaper be used on any wall?

No. Check the selected product’s instructions for wall condition, texture, finish, moisture exposure, coverage, and removal. A smooth, clean, sound surface may be suitable for some products, but suitability varies by manufacturer; do not assume all walls or ceilings are appropriate.

What should I check before adding a shower room or sauna?

Begin with layout, water management, ventilation, lighting, and accessibility. Have qualified professionals assess the specific home, utility requirements, product suitability, and local permits before work starts. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends venting bathroom exhaust directly outdoors.

Do Houzz’s trend reports provide a remodeling budget?

No. The trend editorial describes design ideas, not project prices. Costs depend on location, house conditions, chosen products, labor, and scope; obtain project-specific estimates before setting a construction budget.
